ZESTY SALOON

제스티살룬 성수 Jeseuti Sallun Seongsu The burger shop that won the 2026 Korea Burger Championship, where twenty-two of the twenty-five writers ate the wasabi shrimp burger

Zesty Saloon is a burger shop 452 metres from exit 8 at Ttukseom, occupying both floors of a red brick building at 13 Seoulsup 4-gil, in the lane behind Galleria Foret and sharing the building with Blue Elephant. It won the 2026 Korea Burger Championship — nine writers say so — and goes to the world final in America as Korea's entry. The winning burger is a stone-pot bibimbap burger, on sale, one writer notes, only until 27 September. What people actually eat is the wasabi shrimp burger: twenty-four of the twenty-five posts name it and twenty-two ate it (11,300 won). Whole prawns are mixed into a thick patty under wasabi mayo, and you choose the wasabi at the counter — less, normal or more. You order downstairs, a buzzer calls you back to the pickup counter, and you sit either at the ground-floor bar or at a table upstairs, where the group tables, the high chairs and the men's and women's toilets all are. A self-serve counter holds ketchup, water and free pickled onion. Daily 11:30 to 21:00, last order 20:00, no closing day and no afternoon break. There is no parking. The queue is entirely a matter of when you come: ten writers walked in, six waited — those six for anything from ten minutes to an hour. Eight of them put their name in on Catch Table and walked round Seoul Forest while they waited. We read posts from March 2025 to 25 September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. The win is visible before you are inside. Nine writers mention it and three saw what the shop has put up: notices plastered from outside the building, a wall of winners' posters, the medal itself. The Instagram name now reads Korea Burger Champion '26. The weightiest post is by someone who was at the contest — he sat on the public tasting panel at April's semi-final, watched all eight finalists cook, and never got to taste what they submitted. In September he came for the retail version of the winning burger and sets the two side by side: the vegetables cut thicker, the crucial gochujang skirt thinner. He answers his own question — the concept kept, the build adapted for a working kitchen. That winning a contest and serving that same burger over the counter are two different things is something he tells us, not something we inferred.
  2. Nothing here divides writers like the strength of the wasabi: six found it milder than they expected, one found it strong. You choose less, normal or more at the counter. On one side: even 'more' did not read as much; the wasabi was not that fierce; it never reached the nose; it did not come charging up. The single voice on the other side explains itself — she likes wasabi and eats it happily, and this made even her nose sting, so anyone weak on wasabi may struggle. One writer ordered normal, found it short, asked, and was handed a pot of it on the side. Another remembers being mildly disappointed two years ago for the same reason. Three writers therefore tell you to order 'more' — but with six against one on the same sauce, this is a number about people's tolerance, not about the sauce.
  3. You order on the ground floor and eat on the first — and that order is how to read this place. Eighteen writers mention the upper floor. You order and pay at the ground-floor counter, then collect beside it or come back down when the buzzer goes. The ground floor is mostly bar seating for one (one writer found it a bit exposed for her taste); upstairs are tables for two and four, group tables and sofas. The four-seaters carry signs, and two writers asked before taking one for two people. The full-length mirror on the stairs is this shop's photograph — four writers stop at it, and it is painted with monkeys that have names (one picked Charming, another Fancy; a third took the mascot for a squirrel). The self-serve counter sits by the stairs, with a second one upstairs: ketchup, water, napkins, cutlery and pickled onion, which six writers mention. Go back for the onion twice, says one, and refill a third time.
  4. The queue is not a question about this shop so much as about when you go. Eighteen posts address it: ten walked straight in, six waited. The clock is clear on the first side — weekday lunch (five minutes), half past four on a weekday, three o'clock, six on a weekday evening, half twelve on a Saturday, a rainy day, a weekend evening. The waits were ten minutes, twenty, forty, an hour. The longest wait came at early lunch — she left her name on Catch Table and walked round Seoul Forest — and the forty-minute wait came at opening time, by a writer who assumed arriving early would be quick and added that there was a Pokémon event nearby that day. Eight writers used Catch Table, and putting your name in remotely and walking the park is the method here. One writer noticed seats free while people were still being held outside, and guessed the kitchen was pacing its orders.
  5. Half the side dishes here leave the kitchen free. Of the seven who ate the corn salad or the coleslaw, four paid nothing — the shop gives one for a receipt review on Naver or Google. What you get varies by account: a cobb salad or goods, a corn salad or a character sticker, or simply the review-event corn salad. One writer was brought a coleslaw by staff error and noted that ordinary customers can get one for a review anyway. Asked to choose, one prefers the salad to the goods (the keyring and stickers are sold separately). It is worth knowing the number: of the seven who ate a cold salad on this page, four did not choose it with their own money. That said, this is a 2,500-won side and not a sponsored meal — four posts state plainly that they paid, and two go out of their way to say nothing was sponsored.
  6. You can come alone. Six writers record that the ground floor is bar seating for one — this is not a shop of facing tables only — and two of them say in as many words that eating alone here is not awkward. One post is by someone who did: the tasting-panel writer, who says he announced he was on his own and was told to order and take a ground-floor table. At the other end are the group tables upstairs, including a six-seater one writer thought perfect for a party, and one post by a four who ordered four wasabi shrimps. Five posts are dates.
  7. It is easy to find, and the ease left numbers behind. Nine posts give directions and seven of them use exit 8 at Ttukseom. Two give the distance as 452 metres, three say five minutes on foot, one says eight — the same walk, told as five and as eight. From Seoul Forest station on the Suin-Bundang line it is five to seven. Two landmarks help: the lane behind Galleria Foret, and the Blue Elephant flagship store in the same building (one writer copies the same lot number, 668-30). A large zesty neon sign on a red brick wall meant, for one writer, no chance of getting lost on a first visit; another climbed the steps from the lane unsure she had the right place until she saw zesty scrawled on the stairwell wall. Two describe a converted house.

Parking

1 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot1 of 25 posts

Twelve posts say there is no parking, and almost all of them copied it. Ten carry it as a line in the information block at the top of the post (address, hours, parking), and we did not count those — a line carried from somewhere else is not something anyone saw. One writer records it as something she did: she parked at a nearby lot and walked. Two name the Seoul Forest public car park, a third recommends a public lot generally. So 'no parking' is the fact we read most often about this shop and confirmed most weakly. If you mean to drive, what you have is not our count but one person's record of actually parking nearby and walking in.

Naver Map has a full English mode — Settings → Language → English. In Korea it gives better walking and transit directions than Google Maps.

Getting inside

Second floor18 of 25 posts

Toilet inside4 of 25 posts
Separate restrooms2 of 25 posts

The only way up is the stairs, and not one post mentions a lift. Eighteen writers put the dining room on the upper floor; exactly one describes getting there — and what she says is that the stairs are hard going with a pushchair. She adds immediately that there are plenty of seats downstairs, so anyone with a child or heavy bags will manage. The high chairs and spare chairs are upstairs (three writers saw them). So whoever needs a child's chair has to climb, and whoever cannot climb sits on the floor that has none. One more writer climbs steps from the lane just to reach the door. Nobody records a threshold, a step count, or whether the ground floor is level. The toilets are upstairs too.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 27 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • The toilets are on the upper floor and they are separate — four writers mention them and two note the two doors. One gives you the layout: women's on the right at the top of the stairs, men's on the left. One found them properly clean. You can wash your hands without going in — three writers point out the basin, one of them glad she did not have to use the toilet to do it. In a place you eat with your hands, having it is not the same as not having it. Nobody says whether there is a toilet on the ground floor, and no post mentions an accessible one.
  • Only four posts describe the service, and the four disagree. Three found it kind: staff walked one party upstairs; a request for more wasabi came back in its own pot; another writer asked and was given more. One had the opposite. At a busy hour her burgers took twenty to thirty minutes and nobody told her how long it would be; when she went down to the pickup counter to ask, she got the same line about it coming soon. She then says it may have been only her, and notes separately that the person taking orders at the counter was lovely. We have not given one bad experience the weight of three good ones, and we have not deleted it either — hers is among the longest accounts anyone has written of this place.
  • Two posts here looked like visits and were not, and both open with the words 'I ate it myself.' The first recommends dishes it says it tried, yet carries no price, no date and no receipt, and fills itself with a popular-menu table and lines like 'the room is on the small side' — its hashtags include a television programme this shop has never been on. The second is built as a Quick Summary with Q1, Q2, Q3 and numbers like 'top by a 58,000 per cent probability', 'over 80 per cent whole prawn', 'cuts the grease 100 per cent' — and names as signatures two burgers that are not on the board. Its 'signature monkey neon sign' is not something a visitor saw: the neon is the zesty sign on the brick wall, and the monkeys are characters on the trays, the wrappers and the stairwell mirror. Two things have been welded into one. Both are out of the denominator, which is why it is twenty-five here. Three further posts were about other places altogether and were removed: a visit to the Mokdong department-store branch, a review of a Lotteria burger, and a three-restaurant listicle.
  • Two writers say the shop moved, and we could not confirm it. One, in October 2025, writes that it has recently changed buildings, grown, and opened the upper floor, so tables turn faster. The other, in August 2026, is more startled: the location is different from a few years ago; she thinks it used to be upstairs somewhere and now takes both floors of another building — adding that she once queued two hours for a takeaway. But the oldest post we read describes a visit on 12 October 2024 to 13 Seoulsup 4-gil, and an April 2025 post already lists ground floor, first floor and terrace. On our evidence, then, it has been at this address since at least autumn 2024. Whether the move they remember predates that, or whether taking a second floor in the same building is what they remember as moving, our posts cannot settle. What is certain is that there have been other branches: one post lists Seongsu, Yeonnam and the Hyundai department store at Mokdong, while a September 2026 post says there used to be another branch and now there is only Seongsu. Those two do not agree either.
