Cafe

permanent habitat

퍼머넌트해비탯 Peomeoneonteu Haebitaet Permanent habitat means a lasting dwelling place; one writer read the name as a wish to be somewhere people keep coming back to rather than pass through.

Compiled from 28 blog posts read in fullSources →

A small cafe on the fourth floor of a building in a lane by Seoul Forest (Seoulsup 7-gil 9). You order pour-over or the day's batch brew and a seasonal dessert (candied chestnuts, cherry shotong) at a kiosk and sit at mostly two-person tables. Batch brew was 5,500 won, pour-over 7,000 to 7,800 won, the chestnut dessert 8,000 or 8,500 won, the cherry shotong 8,800 won. Four posts say it moved here from Daeheung-dong in Mapo. We read 30 posts from 31 Oct 2025 to 2 Oct 2026; 29 describe an actual visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. The windows are the point. Twenty-one posts mention the light or the wide windows, and four say you can see Namsan Tower. One writer wondered if it gets too hot in summer; another said the owner offered to lower the blind.
  2. It is small. Twelve posts say so. Table counts given were 5, 5, 5, 5-6, 6, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8 and 8, almost all two-seaters; two posts say there is only one four-person table. Many suggest coming alone or as a pair, and several noticed plenty of solo guests.
  3. Waiting depends on timing. Seven posts waited or were turned away by a queue; nine walked straight in. Recorded waits were 15 minutes, 15 minutes and nearly an hour, plus one 'not long'. Two writers had been turned away on earlier tries because of a queue or a full room. Those who got in at once mostly came on weekday afternoons; one arrived at weekend opening time. There is a sign-up sheet by the door, and two posts mention chairs beside it; one noted there is no space for a phone number, so you wait at the door.
  4. Five posts mention a 90-minute limit; two say it only applies when people are waiting, and one stayed longer on a quiet snowy weekday. One post notes a one-drink-per-person rule.
4 more
  1. The kitchen is open. Eight posts say you can watch the owner brew and plate from your seat; one estimated it takes up a third of the room. Two say he runs the place alone.
  2. Ordering is by kiosk: seven posts say so (one via a Toss self-pay screen), and two note there is no printed menu, which is why several could not photograph one. Orders are brought to your table.
  3. Four posts mention a basket for bags at each table, and some mention wooden wall hooks for coats.
  4. Eight posts describe getting there on foot or by bus, mostly 5 to 8 minutes from Ttukseom Station exit 8; one took bus 2224 from Seongsu Station, about 15 minutes.

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 0 · no 2 (of 28 posts read)

It is on the fourth floor, but nine posts say there is a lift. Several warn the building, behind a ground-floor bakery called Podo, is easy to miss.

Nobody mentioned a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or stroller fits. We only know there is a lift. That is an absence of reports, not a confirmed barrier.

The toilet seems to be outside the cafe: two posts place it half a flight up and one floor up. One found it clean; the other noted good hot water. Nobody said whether it is separated by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Four posts say the cafe moved here from Daeheung-dong in Mapo, but none says when; every post we read is from after the move. One writer said the pour-over used to be a single option and by January 2026 there were several.
  • Prices vary. Three posts list the chestnut dessert at 8,000 won and three at 8,500 won; two posts from the same day (20 Jan 2026) disagree, so we cannot date a change, though both March posts say 8,500. A drink plus a dessert typically came to about 13,000 to 16,000 won. Two posts found things on the pricey side (the non-coffee menu, the chestnut dessert).
  • Twenty-one posts give opening hours: twenty say 11:00 to 19:30, one says 11:30 to 19:30, and five say it is open every day. Most of these are copied info blocks.
  • Seven posts give the phone number 0507-1496-1487. Only one copied info block mentions reservations, saying there are none and you sign the list on arrival; nobody reported trying to book.
  • Desserts change with the season. Three writers missed the chestnut or cherry dessert they came for (one sold out, one out of season, one gave no reason), and one was told a certain dessert is made only on Wednesdays. Several say the cafe posts its lineup on Instagram (@permanent.habitat).
