Nana Hoetjip

나나횟집 An evening-only live-fish house in a Ttukseom back lane, best known for a per-head set of sea bream, flounder and rock octopus.

Korean · Seongdong-gu, Seongsu-dong 1-ga

Updated · Published

Nana Hoetjip is a raw-fish house on the ground floor of a lane off Wangsimni-ro 4-gil, two or three minutes' walk from exit 7 at Ttukseom station. It opens only in the evening and closes at weekends — five in the afternoon until eleven, or midnight in recent posts. The shop bills itself on winter yellowtail, rock octopus, live octopus and its octopus stew; what almost everyone actually orders is the ₩35,000-a-head set of sea bream, flounder and rock octopus (in winter the bream gives way to yellowtail). It is not a place that puts down fish and nothing else: hash browns and corn cheese come first, grilled fish follows the raw, and people finish with seafood ramyeon or a spicy stew. Without a booking you may not get in. The posts we read run from March 2021 to September 2026, twenty-four of them.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Booking is the thing this place's writers repeat most. Seven mention it, and each learned it differently. One was seated, then watched the party behind her be told that without a reservation there was no table (January 2022). One writes that every walk-in was turned away (December 2024). One was told by the owner that twenty parties had been sent home that evening, and counted herself lucky (December 2023). The only way to book is by telephone — no Naver, no CatchTable, a day or two ahead, according to a December 2023 post; another says simply that reserved tables are taken by phone only. Five posts give the same number, 02-468-1629. One writer notes that booking gets you a table behind a partition.
  2. Eleven posts talk about the owner, and every one of them is about something given or adjusted. Counting what arrived free: grilled capelin in six posts, grilled saury in five, salt-grilled prawns in two, sushi and tangerines in one, abalone in one. On the adjusting side: a 2021 writer asked to swap part of the set for flatfish and it was done; a regular from 2022 says shellfish you cannot eat will be substituted; a 2023 writer, seeing the menu priced per person, asked hesitantly whether two was possible and was told of course. Side dishes come again if you ask — four posts say so. One writer records the owner naming each plate as it landed: the bream came in this morning, the octopus has been out of the pot less than an hour. Not one post reports being treated badly.
  3. Quiet here is written as a comparison with the rest of Seongsu. Five posts call it quiet and three of those name what they are comparing it to: a pork place where the work dinners made conversation impossible; a choice made because this one looked cleaner and quieter and less like a market; and, from August 2026, relief at a room without the frantic feeling of the district's busier spots. This is weekday-evening testimony, though — that 2026 writer hedges it herself with 'perhaps because I came on a weekday', and others describe a half-empty room at seven filling up while they ate. The place is shut on Saturday and Sunday, so how it feels at a weekend is something we cannot know.

Parking

1 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot1 of 24 posts

Not one of the twenty-four says they parked here. Parking comes up three times, twice as a bare 'no parking' line in a header block, which we have not counted. Only one writer looked for himself: people do leave cars on the street nearby, he says, but it feels risky and he would use a municipal car park instead (March 2023). People do it; he does not recommend it. No post names a car park or a rate. It is two or three minutes' walk from the station and an evening drinking place, so leaving the car is the easier answer.

Getting there

Map showing where Nana Hoetjip is

Naver Map has a full English mode — Settings → Language → English. In Korea it gives better walking and transit directions than Google Maps.

Getting inside

No one wrote down whether you can get in without steps. Across twenty-four posts the words wheelchair, threshold, ramp, lift and stroller never appear. This does not mean you cannot get in — it means nobody looked and wrote it down.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • The posts that call it cheap and the posts that call it dear sit side by side, and they ordered different things. Two of the three who found it expensive had the ₩50,000 Nana Special — one compares it unfavourably with ₩35,000 at Garak market, another says it is dear and the portion small. The seven who call it good value are mostly talking about the ₩35,000 set of bream, flounder and octopus. The third dissenter gives no price at all and says only that anyone weighing value for money should look elsewhere (2021). One thing is settled: the ₩35,000 has not moved in five years. A September 2026 post says the price is the same as on a 2021 visit, and the 2021 posts bear that out.
  • Two posts say the fish was not good. Two out of twenty-four — but both aim at the fish itself, so we record it. A March 2023 writer calls the flounder not fresh and not worth it, and remarks that in a raw-fish house it is strange for everything else to be the better part; he adds that he is from Busan and knows his fish. An April 2023 writer says the fish was not fresh and that she would not recommend the place. Both, as it happens, ordered the fried prawns as well, and both liked those. The other twenty-two call it fresh; an October 2025 writer records the owner saying the bream had come in that morning. Worth noting that the two complaints fall in the same spring.
  • They disagree about the size. One writer (May 2025) finds it roomy and says so pointedly, since bars and restaurants around Seongsu tend to be cramped. Another (March 2023) says it is not large. A third (October 2025) calls it not wide but neatly kept. Between them sit two who call it neither big nor small. Only two posts count anything: about ten tables (2022), and a party of eight seated four to a table across two tables (2025). Three mention a partitioned area at the back, and the posts say booking is what gets you there.
  • No one writes about using the lavatory. In twenty-four posts it appears exactly once, as the words 'toilet inside' in a header block. Where it is, whether it is split by gender, what it is like inside — nobody says. That is not the same as there being none; it means we could not confirm it. The way in is the same story: several posts place the shop on the ground floor, but whether there is a step at the door, how wide it is, whether a wheelchair or a pushchair gets in — none of the twenty-four says. If it matters, the number to call is 02-468-1629.
  • No post discloses a sponsorship. We checked to the last hashtag and found no 'provided for review' and no #ad. Four say they paid their own way, and one says a friend picked up the bill (October 2023). The other nineteen say nothing either way, and saying nothing is not the same as taking nothing. What is worth noting is how evenly the writing is spread — three or four posts a year across five years, with no cluster in any short window and nothing that looks coordinated. One October 2025 post reads unusually smoothly and never mentions taking a photograph, which suggests it was written to a template; it carries the ₩35,000 price and words the owner said at the table, so we have kept it as a visit.
  • Nobody looked at the floor or the steps. The word "stairs" does not appear once in twenty-four posts. Sixteen posts do say "1F", but every one of them is copying the address line from the shop's Naver listing — not one describes what the doorway actually looks like. The single post that mentions a second floor is talking about a different shop the writer visited the same day. The register also lists it as ground floor, but that is a record, not something we saw.
