Layer10 is a studio and café on the first floor above ground at 10 Sangwon 4-gil, two to five minutes' walk from exit 4 of Ttukseom station. The ground floor is a rental studio; the café is upstairs. One writer says the building was a textile mill. Half a flight further in there is a second room with glazing set into the roof — the writers cannot agree what to call that level. White walls and bare concrete, large plants, and furniture and objects that belong in a showroom rather than a café. It opens at half past eleven every day and closes at eight, last orders half past seven. The coffee runs wide through lattes and whites; the dessert case rotates terrines, brûlées and baumkuchen. There is no parking and the toilet is downstairs. Two owners run it, and they bring your order to the table.

  **The most-ordered drink, at 5,500 won** — four writers give the same figure. **Decaf is 6,000**, and one notes that swapping to decaf or oat milk adds **500 won**. The descriptions agree: no acidity, nutty, strong enough when you need it, clean. **One writer argues the coffee is not the point here** — recommend the place, he says, only to someone who wants to absorb the room, because the coffee is something the room leans on rather than the reverse. Another says the space stayed with her longer than the cup did. Two others simply found the coffee very good.

  **This is where the menu actually branches** — one writer notes how many kinds of latte and white there are, and seven of them ordered seven different things. **Café latte 6,000 won, flat white 6,000, vanilla latte 6,500, velvet white 7,000.** The velvet white is made with **milk the shop ages itself**, and the writer who had it drank two. **The vanilla latte draws the biggest praise**: creamy foam and then something almost buttery underneath, the best the writer had had. The same writer found the flat white short-poured. **They will go off-menu**: one asked for a flat white that was not listed and was told, kindly, that it was no trouble.

  **Four writers drank tea rather than coffee.** **The Sunset iced tea is 7,500 won** — hibiscus cold-brewed into orange syrup — and the writer who ordered it says it cleared a thirst and left nothing behind. **Tea is 7,000 won** according to one post, and **comes in a pot**; she liked the lettering on the cup and thought the pot sweet, with what she describes as only a little tea in it. One had the rooibos milk tea, and one stayed long enough to order a second green tea.

  **The centre of the dessert case — three writers ate one, in three flavours** (Oreo, matcha, cheese); one prices the matcha at 8,500 won. One found the Oreo version's cocoa and the dense cream cheese landing together at the first bite; one liked the cheese one and shrugged at the sweetness. **The third had been let down by terrines elsewhere and had decided this was her last attempt** — this one, she reports, at least did not fail.

  **A small biscuit arrives with the drink** — two writers mention it, and one names it. There is no price on this line, but it belongs beside another small fact: **they bring the order to your table** rather than calling you back to the counter.

  **Two writers had it and neither records a price.** Chestnut cream with chestnuts on top. One describes the scent coming off the cream and the faintly bitter espresso underneath; the other found the chestnuts on top rather sweet, though she liked how they sat with the latte. Both say it was recommended to them at the counter.

  **Two writers ate it and both made it their pick of the day.** One records 10,000 won (a 9,000-won crème brûlée appears in one of the posts nobody actually visited on, so we leave it aside). **There is a burnt-sugar lid on top**: one describes the three-part business of crisp caramel, milk cream and sharp strawberry; the other, eating the crêpe version, the sound of the spoon breaking through into the jam. Both credit the strawberry with keeping it from turning rich.

He splits the verdict honestly: good, but the texture reminded him of red-bean jelly and was not quite his thing. You choose desserts from the case at the counter, where he found a few baumkuchen and cakes on the day.

  **Two writers record cocktails on the menu and not one of them ordered a drink.** One thought an evening visit would make a different place of it; the other just notes that they serve them. No prices, no names of drinks. **Only one of the nineteen came as late as eight in the evening**, and she had coffee and iced tea — so the evening here is a room we have not read.

Parking

3 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

There is no parking, and it is the single most repeated sentence about this place. Seven posts say so, but most are copying the listing, so we counted only the three writers who had to put a car somewhere themselves. What those three leave is useful: one names the Seoul Forest IT Valley car park, one points at the public car parks nearby, and the third simply concludes that driving here is impossible and you should take the subway and be at peace. Nobody says what parking cost. Nine writers describe the walk instead: two to five minutes from exit 4, depending who is counting. One post says exit 8; the other eight say exit 4, so we read the 8 as a slip. One says exit 3 works too.

Naver Map has a full English mode — Settings → Language → English. In Korea it gives better walking and transit directions than Google Maps.

Getting inside

Not one post says whether you can get in with a wheelchair or a pushchair. None of those words appears in the nineteen. But here we cannot leave it at *we do not know* — thirteen writers establish that the café is up a flight of stairs, that there is another half-flight inside, and that the toilet is back down on the ground floor. Nobody records how many steps there are, how wide they are, or whether there is a rail. One post does advise checking in advance whether the stairs will be a problem — and that is one of the posts written without going. If it matters, ring and ask. One more warning, from a writer who got it wrong: the gravel bed at the entrance holds water after rain, looks dry in photographs, and is not.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 22 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

• This is a different café depending on where you sit, so choose before you settle. The chairs divide the writers flatly. One, in October 2025, tells you to claim the two by the door — comfortable enough to sleep in, she says, though not the ones to work at. Another, in August 2026, found the chair at her table not worth sitting in for long. As the first writer implies, the seats for resting and the seats for working are not the same seats. Some seats you cannot use at all: two writers note that the room is dressed with objects and that the number of usable chairs is therefore limited — one badly wanted a seat she was not allowed to take. Ten call the place spacious, but roomy and well-seated are not the same claim.
• Do not decide whether to bring a laptop from this page — the two accounts contradict each other. In July 2025 a writer found sockets behind the long communal table and recommended the place for working alone. In August 2026 another could barely find a socket and says to go elsewhere if work is the point. Whether the furniture changed in the year between, or the two sat in different rooms, we do not know. Two things are certain: there is wi-fi (two writers copied the network name and password off the wall, ten months apart, and it was the same), and people do work here — three of them describe laptops open at other tables, one alongside people simply talking.
• The toilet is not in the café; you go down to the ground floor. Five writers record this and all five agree — one is explicit that it means stepping outside the café itself. Only one says from her own eyes that it is separated by sex. They disagree about the state of it: in October 2025 a writer was startled by how well kept it was, clean enough, he says, to recommend to people caught out elsewhere; in August 2026 another found it ordinary and unheated, and warns that summer and winter will tell. A third calls it very clean and roomy. In January it is worth remembering that you leave the room to get there.
• This is a café and a space for hire at the same time, and that makes both what is good about it and what to watch. Five writers touch on it: the studio downstairs, one noting that the hire calendar was booked out for the year, another that they take pop-ups too, a third crediting the hire business for how unlike a café the room feels. The furniture and objects are not café furniture — which is why some seats are not for sitting in, and why one writer says it feels like walking into a studio. There are limits on photography: one records a notice that commercial shooting is not allowed and that a hire fee may be charged if it is found to be commercial; another says she was asked not to take too many and shot carefully. Everyone took personal photographs — but this is not a room to arrive at with equipment.
• It is a quiet café, though the writers mean different things by it. Six say so, and one regretted that the hush left her photographing only the furniture. Six more note how few people were there — one expected a Seongsu weekend crowd and found the room half empty; another puts it down to being a street away from where the queues are; a third simply liked having it to herself. On music they disagree: three describe it, well chosen and low, while a fourth reports a keyboard and speakers he was not sure worked and no music playing at all. Several saw the performance gear; nobody saw a performance — one thought the room made for a small concert, and one linked to a video of the owner playing the piano.
• They disagree about the prices, and the writer who did the arithmetic most carefully came out against them. One flat white and two vanilla lattes, he records, came to 19,000 won: all of it good, and none of it easy at that price, with the flat white short-poured besides. His conclusion is that the room, not the coffee, is what you are paying for. Another writer says only that it is expensive, and perhaps quite. Against them, one calls it about average for Seongsu and one shrugs that it is fine. One writer separates the two halves: the drinks are steep, he says, the desserts less so. Drinks run 5,500 to 7,500 and desserts 8,000 to 10,000, so two people with two drinks and one dessert should expect twenty to twenty-five thousand won.
• One writer tells you to bring something to put on, in July. She had stayed to read over an extra tiramisu and found the air conditioning fierce enough to leave her cold. It is one person's word and stands as one in the table. The only remark about winter is not about heating but about the toilet, which another writer thought unheated and uncooled. Several praise the glazed room for letting the season in — which also means it lets the heat and the cold in, and is worth weighing if you mean to sit there for a while.
• Three of the posts a search will hand you were written without going. We took them out of the denominator. All three are built from the restaurant's public listing, and one says so at the bottom: the business information in this post is based on Naver Place open data. That same post opens with the words *when I went myself* and then counts other people's reviews — eighty-one visitors said the coffee was good, twenty-seven of a hundred and nineteen reviews carried ratings, a visitor on 18 April 2026 said such and such. The other two are the same kind, and both end by telling you to check the opening hours on Instagram. Here that sentence is more pointed than they knew: the hours really have changed three times, and someone who does not know them has written that they do not know them. Our figures count only the nineteen that are left. None of the nineteen declared sponsorship; five say they paid their own way.
• Not one of the nineteen says they queued — and for a Seongsu café that is worth stating. Nobody mentions waiting, a list, or a booking. Six say instead that the room was empty: one arrived on a weekend evening and found it unexpectedly quiet; one puts it down to being a street away from where the queues are; one, there late, counted two or three other tables and reckons the place is large enough that even at peak you might chance a seat; one had the run of it at half past three on a Sunday; two simply liked that there was nobody there. One writer adds a condition, though: there are not many usable seats, so a busy day could still turn you away — which is the same fact as the chairs that are there to be looked at rather than sat in. No one wrote from a Friday or Saturday afternoon, so about those we do not know.
