Japanese

Katsuryu

카츠류 Katsu is the Japanese breaded pork cutlet; ryu commonly means a style or school, so the name reads roughly as 'the katsu way' — none of the posts explain it.

Katsuryu is a Japanese tonkatsu counter on Sangwon 1-gil in Seongsu, a short walk from Ttukseom Station exit 7, up a half flight on the building's 1.5th floor. You sit at a bar wrapped around the kitchen and eat loin, tenderloin or premium-loin katsu sets. A copied menu lists the loin set at 14,000 won, tenderloin at 15,000 and the loin-plus-tenderloin set at 17,000; one post paid 16,000 for the premium-loin set. We read 11 posts dated August 16 to September 29, 2026. Six of them, from September 3 to 29, are about this restaurant, and all six describe an actual visit. The other five used the word katsu-ryu (katsu dishes) about other restaurants, so we set them aside.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. It is a walk from Ttukseom Station. Five posts said it is close: about 150 meters from exit 7, under five minutes on foot, three minutes' walk.
  2. Seating is at the counter. Two posts said every seat is at the bar wrapped around the kitchen; a third said mostly counter seats. No post mentioned a regular table.
  3. Three posts said the kitchen is open and you can watch the frying. Four described a dark, black-toned room that feels more like a bar or omakase spot than a tonkatsu shop.
  4. Four posts called the coating crisp, and three noted it is thin over thick meat. One said the seasoning is light, so salt is a must; two kinds of salt sit at each seat.
3 more
  1. Two posts flagged richness: the premium loin got a little greasy toward the end, and another found it heavier than usual, with the pickled chili the only side that helped.
  2. Three posts said portions are generous: the premium loin comes as two large strips, and one post noted a big pile of cabbage.
  3. Two posts said a Naver review event gets you a free piece of tenderloin katsu or a drink; both chose the katsu.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 2 (of 6 posts read)
Step at the entrance2 of 6 posts

It is not at street level but on a 1.5th floor reached by stairs. Two posts said so: one told readers to take the stairs on the left side of the building, the other that a bar occupies the basement and you climb a flight to reach Katsuryu above it.

No post describes entering with a wheelchair or stroller. Two mention climbing stairs; nobody says whether there is a lift or ramp.

No post says where the toilet is or whether it is separated by gender. That means we don't know, not that there isn't one.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • One post found prices a bit high, mostly mid-to-high 10,000s won. Most per-dish prices come from a menu copied into a single post, as of September 2026.
  • Opening hours appear in four posts, all copied, and they disagree. Three list daily 11:00 to 22:00, last order 21:00; one (September 14) lists weekdays 11:00 to 22:00 and weekends 12:00 to 21:00, last order 20:00. No post mentions a closing day.
  • No post mentions queuing; one only said the food took about ten minutes after ordering. We don't know whether there is a lunch line.
  • Only two posts say who they went with: one couple, one group of coworkers. Several say it would suit a date or a solo meal, but that is speculation.
  • Only one post copied a phone number (070-7706-3191). No post says whether reservations are taken.
