Gokseong
곡성 Two syllables, gok-seong. They are also a county in the south-west and the title of a 2016 horror film, and customers arrive expecting something sinister; one writer asked, and was told the bar had the name before the film did. What the owner means by it, nobody records. The shop writes itself goksung on Instagram, and most customers say Seongsu Gokseong to distinguish it from the county.

Gokseong is a wine bar on the ground floor of a red-brick house, down a lane towards the Trimage towers, seven to ten minutes' walk from exit 2 at Seoul Forest. A florist runs it, and it is also a flower shop — there are fresh stems in a cooler by the door and neighbours come in to buy bouquets. Order a bottle of wine and it arrives in an ice basket packed with flowers; when you leave, those flowers are tied into a bouquet and given to you. All twenty-six posts we read say so. The kitchen's most-ordered dishes are a chilled octopus pasta made with buckwheat noodles and a plate of plainly fried aubergine; pastas, rice bowls, curry, poke and salads sit mostly under twenty thousand won. There are only four or five tables, so book. The toilet is inside. The posts we read run from 1 August 2025 to 5 April 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- Order wine and you leave with flowers. All twenty-six posts say so — the most repeated fact about this place, mentioned more often than any dish or any bottle. The wine comes out in an ice basket filled with fresh stems, and on your way out those stems are tied into a bouquet for you. Two writers say the flowers are chosen to match the colour of the wine; one had extra stems added that had not been in the basket. It costs four thousand won, if you read one post's figures: the same bottle is ₩45,000 on its own and ₩49,000 in the basket, with no wrapping charge. Ask before you go — the posts describe mentioning it five minutes ahead, or simply at the end of the meal. One writer got flowers after a daytime brunch with no wine at all; another says following the shop on Naver earns a small bouquet too. What people did with them is recorded as well: handed to a friend who was getting married, put in a vase at home, and — in one case — waved at a boyfriend who had never given her any.
- Fourteen posts say the actor Song Joong-ki learned flower arranging here. He plays a florist in a recent drama and, the story goes, took private classes from the owner; three name the drama. Twelve of the fourteen are repeating what they heard — he is said to have, apparently he did, this is the place he came to — and one writer says plainly that she read it in someone else's review before going. Two describe something they saw: photographs of the owner with him on the wall, which one of them puzzled over before asking. So the count above is two — the number of people who report the photographs themselves. That fourteen write nearly the same sentence is a fact about how this place became known, not about what anyone looked at. One post also calls it a filming location; nobody reports seeing that either. Two posts give the owner's own background, the Peninsula hotel in London, and one went and looked the hotel up.
- It is small. Ten posts count the tables — four or five, or more precisely one four-top and two two-tops. One describes a round table for six or eight at the back; another mentions private hire for up to twenty-five, which reads as copied from the shop's own notice. Not one writer complains about the size. Several present it as the point: six note how far apart the tables are, and three say a small room is a private one. It does fill up, though — one writer watched it go full with booked tables and calls a reservation essential; another, who had booked, found her table already laid at the appointed hour and walked straight in.
- Thirteen posts call it quiet — but they mean quiet compared with the rest of Seongsu. Five say outright that they came to get away from the crowds on the main streets, the pop-ups and the queues. The location does the work: a back lane rather than a thoroughfare, a little off the centre. Eight describe the occasion that brought them — a first date, an anniversary, a birthday, a wedding anniversary — and they are largely the same posts that use the word quiet. Two mention the music, both to say it was unobtrusive.
- It runs as two different places, and the daytime one changed. An August 2025 post has it as a café and brunch room by day and a wine bar at night, and the writer ate a sandwich and a poke bowl there at lunchtime. A November post says the same. A December one does not: she asked, and was told brunch had been dropped — the owner needs the daylight hours for the flowers. Three later posts still list coffee, tea, ades and desserts; one mentions a separate lunch menu. Nobody we read has been in daylight since, so what the kitchen does at midday now, we cannot say. Several note an afternoon break on weekdays, half past two to five, with none at weekends.
- The toilet is inside, and all three writers who mention it count that in the shop's favour — one of them says she always checks. Two report flowers in there too, one taking it as proof the owner means it. Whether it is split by sex, nobody says.
- You walk from Seoul Forest station. Nine posts describe getting here and five of them name exit 2 on the Suin-Bundang line. The distance varies with the teller — five to ten minutes on foot, seven, eight (twice), ten (twice), and one post gives 620 metres. Two say you can also walk it from Ttukseom or Seongsu on line 2, one adding that Seoul Forest is a little nearer. One further post gives only the 620 metres and nothing about the walk; that line is copied from the shop's listing, so we have not counted it. It is easy to walk past. Three writers say so — the sign does not catch the eye, keep looking to your right as you go; it is mounted high up, so you may find yourself wondering where the door is; the front is quiet, with no big sign, and you doubt you have the right place. There is one marker instead: four writers say that when you see a lot of flowers on the street, that is it — the shop that looks like a florist's is the wine bar. Five describe a red-brick house.
- The owner does it all — chooses and arranges the flowers, seats you, explains the menu, and by one account cooks as well, alongside someone the writer took to be his wife. Nine posts call the service warm, and what they describe overlaps: two bottles brought over and explained (six posts), a taste poured from each before choosing (one), a basket dressed up on hearing it was a birthday (one), a bouquet tied with care (four). Two mention being recommended a wine without feeling pushed. Nobody reports being treated badly.

Parking
1 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

There is no car park. A dozen posts carry the same line in their header: none here, use the public ones. Exactly one writer describes actually parking — in the municipal lot on the next street, then walking past a primary school to the door — and she thought it important enough to check in at the car park separately and say so. Even she does not say what it cost or whether there was space. Two more name other public car parks without having used them. One post repeats a claim that booking gets your parking subsidised, and immediately advises ringing to check. Two writers point out that this is a wine bar and you probably should not drive.

Getting there

Naver Map has a full English mode — Settings → Language → English. In Korea it gives better walking and transit directions than Google Maps.
Getting inside
| Toilet inside | 3 of 26 posts |

No post says whether a wheelchair or a pushchair can get in. None mentions a step, a threshold or a ramp. All we know for certain is that it is on the ground floor, in a converted house, which five describe. Three place the toilet inside, but none describes it. One writer came with a baby and her mother, and says only that she had worried about the gaps between tables and found them generous — nothing about a high chair, and nothing about where the pushchair went.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know
- Half the posts come from a single December. Thirteen of the twenty-six are from December 2025, and twelve of those went up inside eight days at the start of the month. Five more appeared on one day in February. Four posts declare a sponsorship or a review campaign — one says so in its opening line, one in the body, two through a hashtag on a video card at the foot of the page. We have not counted the others as paid. But twelve posts in eight days, and five in one day, are facts in themselves and we record them. Nobody states that they paid their own way. The clustering also skews what we can see: eleven posts describe a Christmas tree, not because there is always one but because half of what we read was written in December. Only two posts come from the summer.
- Four of the thirty posts we collected were not about this place, and we removed them. The two syllables of the name are attached to a great many things: a strawberry from Gokseong county, used by an unrelated café across town; a film by Na Hong-jin, mentioned twice in somebody's monthly diary; a car-locksmith advertisement carrying every county in the province as a hashtag (and admitting at the bottom to being AI-generated); and a family holiday through three towns in Jeolla. The film trips customers up too. One writer arrived expecting something sinister and asked about it: the shop, she was told, had the name before the film did. We could not verify that, and it appears in that one post only.
- Nobody calls it expensive and six call it cheap — cheap for Seongsu, one says, where the prices have gone mad. The figures across the posts: pasta ₩18,000–20,000, rice bowls, curry and poke at ₩16,900, small plates ₩14,000–18,000, the wine basket ₩49,000, a glass of wine ₩8,000. An August 2025 post and an April 2026 post give the same prices — no sign of a rise across the eight months we read. The wine list is thinner ground: only two posts price a bottle, and one says the range starts below fifty thousand and runs up into natural wines. What anything other than the basket costs, we mostly cannot say.
- A dog lives here — a three-year-old brown poodle, named for brown candyfloss, who by both accounts likes people and met one writer at the door. No customer we read brought an animal of their own: five posts list the shop as dog-friendly, but all five are copying a notice. Worth knowing if dogs or dander are a problem for you. One writer records a different discomfort: visiting in daylight in August, with the door propped open, she was bothered by flies, which she put down to the door or the flowers. Hers is the only post of the twenty-six to raise hygiene at all — and another, braced for pollen, reports a room so clean she never sneezed.
- Nobody looked at the entrance and wrote down what they saw. The address ends in "ground floor", but that string comes from the check-in widget and is identical in all twenty-six posts; whether there is a step up, or a lip at the door, none of them says. Five describe a converted detached house and five a red-brick front, but they are describing the photograph, not the way in. Whether there is an upstairs or a basement, and how much of the building the bar uses, nobody records. Three note only that it sits a little way into a lane off the main street.
