Goheungman is a southern-Korean restaurant in the lanes between Ttukseom and Seoul Forest stations. The name is the owner's home county in South Jeolla, and two writers report the seafood comes direct from the fishing co-operative there. At midday the tables fill with people from the offices nearby eating stew and grilled mackerel; in the evening the neighbourhood's older regulars settle in with grilled eel and a bottle. The printed menu is fixed; the seasonal dishes go up on a whiteboard and turn over through the year. Four or five side dishes change daily, seaweed soup comes with the meal, and every table has a tub of toasted laver on it. The licence dates from 2009; the posts we read run from April 2023 to August 2026.

What sets it apart
- The prices have risen steadily for three years, and not one post calls the place expensive. Laid out by date, from the posts themselves: stew ₩7,000 (2023 and early 2024) → ₩8,000 (late 2024) → ₩9,000 (2026); grilled mackerel ₩9,000 → ₩10,000 → ₩12,000; pork stir-fry ₩8,000 → ₩9,000 → ₩11,000; braised hairtail ₩10,000 → ₩11,000 → ₩13,000; grilled eel ₩25,000 → ₩27,000; eel soup ₩15,000 → ₩16,000. Two to three thousand won on most things in three years. And yet all twelve writers who discuss price say the same thing: that for Seongsu this is remarkably cheap, that you would struggle to eat this well for the money anywhere nearby. A 2023 post already notes that the set-lunch option had gone and the other prices had moved past what the listing said. The comparison being made is always with Seongsu, and that is worth holding onto.
- It sits between three stations, so the walk depends on where you start. From Seoul Forest: five minutes from exit 1 by two accounts, seven by another, 650 metres by a fourth, ten minutes from exit 2 by a fifth. From Ttukseom: ten minutes from exit 5, twice. Two say Seongsu station works too. You turn off the main road into a lane — one writer advises following a map, because the streets multiply here; another says it sits just off the walked route; a third nearly passed it, taking the sign for an eel restaurant and nothing more. Two landmarks recur: directly opposite the post office (two writers), and in the lane facing the primary school (three). One adds a warning — there is no pavement, so you are walking in the road.
- Seven posts are about the signatures on the wall — a great many of them, from actors to politicians to athletes, enough that one writer takes them as proof the place is the real thing even if the front door suggests otherwise. One dates the cluster: 2016 seems to have been a busy year for autographs. Another guesses it is because the entertainment agencies are all in this district. Not one post names anybody — and we have not verified it. What can be counted is only this: seven people looked at the same wall and said the same thing.
- Seven posts describe the people running it, and they describe specific acts: the small braised pomfret arriving closer to a medium; being shown how to eat the braised hairtail, ladling the sauce back over the rice; side dishes refilled without stinting; the seaweed soup topped up unasked; more food sent out as a party grew, on the grounds that there was nothing left to eat; and two people who ordered three dishes being given two bowls of rice, because two was what two people needed. One writer says a married couple run it. Another, wanting noodles to finish with, suggested they be added and was told they would be, next time. Nobody writes badly of the service.
- It fills at lunch. One writer reports it close to full from half past eleven; another walked in at five past one to find two or three tables left; a third says lunchtime is always busy; a fourth was struck that the street outside was empty and the room was not. The evenings are not quiet either — one found it well filled at seven on a Friday, though another found room to spare on a Friday night. Nobody records waiting for a table. One explains why: a lot of people eating alone at lunch, and the room turns over. Two say to book if there are several of you, one of them simply because the place is busy enough to need it. A third post gives the booking method as telephone, but that sits in its header block rather than in the writing.
- Four posts record coming back — we have dropped the ones that only promise to return, which is not the same thing — one writer having lost count, another calling it her standing repeat. Worth noting alongside that: four of these bloggers wrote about the place more than once — three times over a year for the stews, twice for the eel and then the set meals, twice a year apart to see what was on the seasonal board, twice for the eel and the braised pomfret. What the second visits have in common is the whiteboard — one says the seasonal dishes have never once disappointed her; another notes the dressed tonguefish of March had given way to something else by summer. A third is waiting for November: the cockles she likes come in then, and she means to be there.

There is room for one car, or two, and the posts do not agree which. One (August 2026) says two in front, with the main road an option at lunch; one (January 2024) says one; one (April 2024) says none, or perhaps one; two others say simply that it is difficult, or to use a car park nearby. One writer is admirably honest: there might be space behind the building, given how it is laid out, but she did not go and look. A single post names four paid car parks in the area — and that writer did not drive either. Nobody records what any of them cost. One says plainly: come on foot.

Getting inside
Not one post mentions a step, a stair, a wheelchair or a pushchair. The licence says ground floor and one writer places it at one end of a building's ground floor, but whether there is a lip at the door, and whether a wheelchair gets through, is nowhere in the twenty-six. The only observation anyone makes about the approach is that there is no pavement — you step out of the road and in. This is not a no; it is nobody having written it down. Ring and ask if it matters.

What we do not know
- The opening hours mostly agree, and then one thing does not. Seven posts, spread across 2024 to 2026, give half past ten to ten on weekdays, half past ten to eight on Saturdays, closed Sundays. But a July 2026 post says eleven to nine daily; a May 2025 post eleven to ten; an August 2023 post eleven to nine. Whether the door opens at half ten or eleven is unsettled. A February 2026 post gives up and says to ring; so does one from June 2023, which advises calling before any evening or weekend visit. That it closes on Sundays, though, eight posts agree. If you are going in the evening or on a Saturday, ring — the number 02-461-7770 appears identically in six posts.
- They disagree about how big it is. One counts six or seven tables (March 2024); one counts ten four-tops (April 2024); one (June 2023) finds it roomier than expected and says a work dinner would be no trouble if you push the tables together. Two others call it small and plain, and one lists "you are close to the next table" among the things to know — while another says the opposite, that the tables are far enough apart to forget your neighbours. Read across the six, it is not a small room, but it is close quarters when full — though that is our reading of six posts laid over each other, not something any one of them says. Not one writer says they ate alone. Two say the seating works for a solo meal as well as a work dinner, but that is advice to the reader; one noticed other people eating alone at the next table. Two came with family and five with a party of three or more; the rest mostly came as a pair.
- Not one of the twenty-six mentions a toilet — inside or out, shared or separate. This is not a no; it is nobody having written it down.
- Not one post declares a sponsorship. We read to the end of each, hashtags included. Ten writers state that they paid. One post contains the word for a review-invitation scheme, but about a different restaurant in the same post, so we have not counted it. Two record getting something free, and in both cases it is the kitchen giving more than was ordered — a small braise arriving closer to a medium; extra dishes sent out as a party grew. Not sponsorship, but worth saying: those two were served something the other twenty-four were not. Four posts are out of the count. Two we removed entirely: one is a review of a different restaurant in which this one appears only as a link, and one is a two-hundred-row table of the district's approved restaurants. Two more we judged not to be visits: one is a round-up of three local restaurants with no sign the writer went to any of them, and it ends with a note addressed to the writer about how long the next instalment should be; the other lays out the popular dishes in a table of dish and reason, and names neither an order nor a price. That leaves twenty-six. But twenty-six posts are not twenty-six people — one blogger wrote three and three bloggers wrote two apiece. Twenty-six posts, twenty-one people.
- Two of the recent posts look assembled to a template rather than written. Both are from July and August 2026, both carry a table of contents — location, room, menu, FAQ — and both end with questions they have made up and answered themselves. Both do say what they ate and what it cost, so we have not treated them as unvisited. But one of the two copies opening hours that disagree with the other seven posts, and hedges it with 'check before you go'. The newest post is not automatically the truest one.
- Almost nothing is written about floors or stairs. The registration says ground floor, and of the twenty-three posts only one describes it: "the restaurant sits to one side of the building's ground floor, with the menu posted at the entrance." That single line is all we have — nobody mentions a step or a stair, and the one post that mentions a second floor is talking about a different restaurant.
