Gidaelbing is a bingsu specialist in a lane beside Seoul Forest — shaved milk ice under fruit, and the board changes with the season, as the name says. In the summer of 2026 its fresh mangosteen bingsu spread on social media as "the garlic bingsu" and the queues started; fifteen of the twenty-four writers ordered it, at ₩28,000. On 20 August 2026 the shop moved a few minutes up the lane into a bigger space — the old room held about seven tables for two; the new one has a counter and outdoor seats downstairs and a wide upstairs room, part of it floor seating. Eleven in the morning to eleven at night, last orders quarter past ten. One bingsu per two people, one drink per person. We read twenty-four posts, all from August and September 2026.

  **The dish that made the queue, ordered by fifteen of the twenty-four.** Milk ice under at least 280g of fresh mangosteen, with lime zest and coconut. **₩28,000** — one pre-move visitor paid ₩27,000. **It spread on Instagram as "the garlic bingsu"**, because peeled mangosteen looks like cloves of garlic; five writers use the phrase.

  **What nobody disputes is the ice, not the fruit** — seven writers single out the milk ice, one of them saying it explains why they also sell it plain. **On the mangosteen itself they differ:** one finds it perfectly ripened, another that the flavour fades as you eat, a third that it is not especially remarkable. **You spit the stones out** — two mention the bowl provided for them, and one advises against ordering it on a date. **The lime zest and coconut divide people**, one wishing the lime away and one reporting a friend who dislikes coconut. **The kitchen peels every one** (two writers).

  **There is a rule, and four writers describe it the same way:** one bingsu per two people, one drink per person. The clearest account watched a party of four be told that one bingsu and one drink between them would not do. A table of three got away with one of each, late in the evening. **At ₩28,000 a bowl the rule bites** — one writer says plainly that three could share. **They sell wine** (four), and three note you may bring your own.

  **The board turns with the season** — the shop calls itself a seasonal dessert café. In early September one writer listed what was up: fig, watermelon, mangosteen, Korean melon, apple mango, cantaloupe. Prices recorded by writers who went: **₩18,000 for the mango, ₩15,000 for the rice-cake and red bean.** One who ordered the mango alongside the mangosteen preferred the mango. **There is a plain milk bingsu too** — one writer, mourning a famous shop that had closed, says this replaced it. New flavours appear on Instagram first.

  **Write a receipt review and you get two scoops of vanilla** — three did, and two of them thought it good enough to eat on its own. **Condensed milk on request** (one writer).

  **The one that was on television:** melon ice under jamón and caviar, salt against sweet. **Only one of the twenty-four actually ate it,** though; the rest saw it on the board and meant to come back. **No price from anyone who went** — the write-ups we excluded give one, but they were not there.

Parking

No car park — six posts say so, and they point at different alternatives: four to a public car park by the forest at ₩150 per five minutes, two to a community-centre one at ₩300, one to another further off. Two writers actually parked and walked, one of them ten minutes. It is eight to ten minutes from either station, and one writer warns that it is down a lane and you should watch the map.

Getting inside

Not one writer says in their own words whether a wheelchair gets in. One header block lists step-free access among the facilities, but it is the listing's line, copied, and we have not counted it — that writer describes nothing about the door. What we do know points the other way: the upstairs is reached by stairs, and part of it is floor seating you take your shoes off for. One writer calls the place "neither the ground floor nor the first — a floor and a half." Whether there is a step at the door, and whether the ground floor alone will do, nobody says. Ring if it matters.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 26 posts we gathered, 5 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

When the posts appeared

What we do not know

• The single most important thing here: the shop moved on 20 August 2026, and posts either side of that date read like two different places. One writer, on the day, passes on that it was reopening bigger; another states plainly that her post describes a visit on the 18th, before the move. The old room — seven tables for two, by one count — was small enough that people queued. The new one is over two floors: a counter and a few seats downstairs with four tables outside, and a wide room upstairs, part of it floor seating you take your shoes off for. The basement is the kitchen and closed to customers. The telephone number and the Instagram handle changed too. So "small" and "long wait", in anything written before mid-August, is not about the shop you would visit now.
• Five writers waited and five did not — and the line between them is the moving date. Before: one arrived at one o'clock to a three-hour estimated wait; one queued an hour on a Friday and was told by the owner that ninety minutes was normal; one calls booking essential. Two got in without waiting, and both had deliberately come at an odd hour. After the move, only one writer waited — five minutes, on 21 September — and three walked straight in, including one who remembers the old queues and found none here. "Full on both floors" does appear once, on a Sunday afternoon. Three note that a bingsu-only shop turns over fast: people eat and go.
• Three call it expensive; nobody calls it cheap. But all three follow the complaint with a reason: 280 grams of mangosteen, a fruit that is hard to get here at all — "dear, but fair enough," as one puts it. Two who scored it gave the taste five stars and the likelihood of returning three. Known prices: ₩28,000 for the mangosteen, ₩18,000 for the mango, ₩15,000 for the rice-cake and red bean.
• Not one of the twenty-four declares a sponsorship, and three state that they paid. Two things to keep in mind, though. First, five of the twenty-nine posts we gathered were written by people who had not been — four of them in the three days after a television appearance, one opening with an affiliate-commission disclosure and closing with a recipe for making the dish at home. All five are out of the count. Second, nearly all of the remaining twenty-four came because of social media — eight say so outright. This is the record of two months in which one dish was in fashion. Two television programmes are named; we have checked neither.
• One post mentions the lavatory: it is inside, in September 2026, after the move. Whether men's and women's are separate, which floor it is on, whether there is an accessible one — nobody says. That is ignorance, not absence.
