금일식당 Dry-aged pork grilled for you, off a Seongsu back lane

Korean · Seongdong-gu, Seongsu-dong 1-ga

Updated · Published

Geumil Sikdang is a dry-aged pork grill on the ground floor of a residential lane in Seongsu, three to five minutes from exit 2 at Ttukseom. You can see the meat ageing in a cabinet as you come in, and the signature is geun-moksal, pork neck cut thick. Staff grill it for you from start to finish — twenty-three of our twenty-four writers describe it — and move each piece to a warming plate at the side, so nothing burns and nothing cools. Six or seven plates of banchan arrive, with instructions for wrapping the pork in kelp with salted fish. It opens at eleven every day and closes at eleven at night, with a break from three to four. At lunch there is a separate set menu at 10,000 won. There is no car park: come on foot or use the public one nearby. We read posts from October 2023 to July 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Staff cook the meat for you, and that is what this place is. Twenty-three of the twenty-four say so. Several describe the process: thick neck takes long enough that it is quartered halfway through so the cut faces cook too. Finished pieces go onto a warming plate beside the grill — nothing burns, nothing goes cold. The reasons they give for liking it rhyme: nobody enjoys a work dinner, and having to cook as well makes it worse; grilling for a large table is a chore; with it done for her, one writer could concentrate on her friends. The kitchen grills the aged kimchi, garlic, mushrooms and peppers alongside, and warms the salted anchovy dip. Three writers are told to take the first piece with salt and are then walked through the combinations in order.
  2. The tables are set well apart. Seven posts note it and one explains why she liked it: a small room that has not been crammed to the last cover. Tables are wider than the grill-house norm, and a table for four leaves two people room. Three writers count seats and none agrees: about seven fours; three long tables in the middle and three fours at the back; "fewer tables than I expected". Four single out the back room as quieter and semi-private. Three complain about the seating there, though: backless benches with a closed base, so there is nowhere to put your legs — one forgives it because the seats double as storage.
  3. People book. Five writers did — three through Naver, one by phone, one had a friend do it. Groups especially: a party of fourteen found the table laid when they arrived; a party of five were given the window seats. Catch Table takes bookings too. Two mention a free drink for booking through Naver, and one a highball or steamed egg for leaving a receipt review. Nobody reports waiting — three guess that evenings might involve a queue, none of them from experience.

Parking

2 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot2 of 24 posts

There is no car park. The "no parking" line at the head of several posts is copied, and we dropped three of those — a line that carries the phone number and the opening hours alongside it was not seen, it was transcribed. We count the two who looked for themselves: one found nothing in front of the shop, and one priced the alternative. That alternative is the Seongsu 1-ga 2-dong public car park, 900 won per half hour, three minutes away; she works it out at 3,600 won for two hours against 5,000 for valet, and 10,000 for a five-hour stay. Several simply recommend walking from Ttukseom station, three to five minutes off.

Getting inside

Toilet inside2 of 24 posts
Separate restrooms1 of 24 posts

Not one of the twenty-four says whether a wheelchair or a pushchair gets in. The words do not appear. What is certain is that it is at street level down a lane, with sliding doors that are opened wide in good weather — nobody records their width or a threshold. The group seating at the back is up one step, according to a single post. Three writers say those back benches are backless with a closed base, leaving nowhere for your legs, which is the whole of what we know about the seating. The toilet is indoors and one writer calls it cramped. This is "nobody wrote it down", not "you cannot get in".

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 26 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Whether the toilets are separated by sex is disputed, and it matters which side is which. Several posts carry a "separate men's and women's" line, but that is copied from the listing and we do not count it. Two writers say it in their own words and they contradict each other: one in July 2024 describes a clean, separated toilet inside; one in July 2026, writing after using it, says it is inside and clean but not separated, and adds that it is cramped enough to warn tall people about. Both agree it is indoors. Nobody mentions an accessible toilet. One more thing to weigh: the 2024 post that calls them separated is a declared comped visit, while the 2026 post that says they are not is by someone who paid her own way. We cannot pick a winner, but the second is both more recent and more specific.
  • Last orders moved half an hour earlier. Six posts say 22:30 and all six are from 2024; six say 22:00 and they run from February 2025 to July 2026. The two periods do not overlap, so this is a change rather than a disagreement — if you are coming late, plan on ten. The opening hours, eleven to eleven with a break from three to four, hold steady across the same years. Earlier still it was different: our oldest post, from October 2023 around the opening, gives separate weekday and weekend hours — eleven to eleven on weekdays with a half-two break, noon to half ten at weekends. That post records no meal, so it is outside our count, and none of the twenty-four since gives weekends separately. Nobody names a closing day; one writer says only that they open at weekends.
  • The pork is dry-aged and eight posts discuss it. Three mention seeing the ageing cabinet on the way to their table. Two describe the method in the same words — dry ageing crossed with wet — and two name the breed, YBD, one of them delighted to find a pig he already rates. By 2026 the menu itself reads "YBD neck" and "YBD belly". Two compare the result to Jeju, one for the ageing and one for the salted anchovy dip that comes with it. We have no way to verify the method or the breed — only that eight people wrote it down.
  • Few writers discuss price and those who do call it fair. Soju at 5,000 won is cheap for Seongsu; a clay-pot rice or a stew at 7,000 is good value; the lunch set at 10,000 seemed dear for a moment and then cheap by the standards of eating out now. Two call it on the expensive side and both explain it in the next sentence by the quality of the meat, noting that aged pork runs 18,000 to 20,000 a portion anywhere. Quantity divides them: one finds 300g right for two, one suspects men will want more, and two tables ordered extra after finishing a set.
  • It is at street level on a lane. Twenty-two posts carry an address with the floor in it, but that is the copied line; three say it in their own words, one adding that the lane is wide enough to find easily. There is one step inside, though: a June 2026 writer notes that the group seating at the back is up a single step. That is the only post that mentions a step at all, and nobody says whether there is one at the door. Two leave directions: from exits 3 and 4 at Ttukseom, a hundred metres toward the Ssangyong apartment shops then right at the Seven-Eleven; or from exit 4, walking past the Mega Coffee. Three say the sign stands out.
  • Nearly half of what we read was written inside one month. Ten of the twenty-four visits are from July 2024; two of those declare they were comped and six mention the same limited-time offer — a free glass of red wine per person on weekends and holidays through June and July, and a steamed egg or a highball for posting a receipt review. That offer ended in July 2024 and nobody since has said whether it still runs. The honest reading is that the shop ran a blog push for a month. So we treated anything that appears only in that month lightly, and anything that appears on both sides of it heavily — the staff grilling for you runs from February 2024 to July 2026 without a break, and so does the roominess. After the wave, two posts in 2025 and five in 2026.
  • Three posts declare that they were comped. Two carry the standard line at the very end — written after being given food or service through a review agency (February and July 2024) — and one says in the body that she came as part of a tasting group and will be back paying her own way (July 2024). Three others state they paid for themselves, and four were paid for by an employer: two work dinners, a training-course dinner, and one whose director had tried the lunch and insisted. The remaining fourteen say nothing about money. Twenty-four posts, twenty-four people, with no blogger appearing twice. Twenty-six posts came in and none had to be thrown out — the name is distinctive enough that nothing unrelated attached itself. Two are outside the count: a shop introduction from October 2023 with no meal in it, and a March 2026 write-up built from Naver's aggregate, quoting other people's reviews at length.
