Dwaejimam

돼지맘 The name reads as 'pig mum' — dwaeji is pig, mam the borrowed English 'mom' — and the shop cooks its pork for you at the table.

Dwaejimam is a pork grill on the ground floor of a building in the back lane behind the Ttukseom eating street, close to exit 6 of Ttukseom station. It sells belly, collar and jowl, and all three cost ₩17,000 for a 200g portion — a price written down in 2023 and again in 2024, two years apart and unchanged. The fire is charcoal (one writer says so), and the meat is grilled and cut for you at your table, by the owner or by staff: four of the five posts say this. Two finished with cold noodles. Two things arrive without being paid for — steamed egg and a stew — though which of them differs from post to post, and one writer says hers was a thank-you for having waited. Four writers describe kimchi grilled in butter, or margarine. It is used as a place to bring a group: three of the five came for a work dinner, and one team got a table booking a day ahead. One post gives the hours as 11:30–23:00 daily (one writer only, so it is not in our table). One thing to know: we read five posts, and two of them are the same dinner, written up by two of the companies at the table.

What sets it apart

  1. You do not grill your own meat here — the owner or a member of staff comes to the table, cooks it and cuts it. Four of the five posts say so, and all four add a word of thanks for it. Two men who came in June 2025 and who considered themselves grillers were humbled: "there was a muscular man who is a master of grilling, and we found ourselves nodding along." Another party the same evening: "good meat, grilled at the table by the owner, so easy and so good — he watched over it the whole time." A 2024 visitor: "the owner grills it himself, which is so comfortable." A 2023 visitor, ordering a second round: "again the staff grilled it, and again we could just eat." This is the part of the meal where you need no Korean: the heat, the timing of the cut, and the moving of finished pieces to the cool edge of the plate are all done for you — the 2023 writer noticed that last detail, that the cooked meat was gathered into a corner so it would not burn.
  2. Three cuts, one price — and the price held for two years. Belly, collar and jowl are each ₩17,000 for 200g. A January 2023 visitor: "the three mains were all 200g portions and all ₩17,000." An August 2024 visitor: "₩17,000 a portion, and a portion here is 200g" — generous, she thought, "for these prices." Nineteen months separate those two records of the same figure. Both thought it good value; the 2023 writer calls it cheap for what it is. One thing follows from the flat price: the 2023 visitor ordered all three cuts, one after another, precisely because choosing cost him nothing. But neither of the two 2025 posts records a price, so whether it is still ₩17,000 we cannot tell you.
  3. It is used as a place to take a group — three of the five posts are work dinners. The most useful passage comes from an April 2023 team outing: "tables can be pushed together into one long one, and it takes a fair number of people. In Ttukseom you normally cannot get a table for a group without booking well ahead, and here a day's notice was enough." In June 2025 two curtain-fitting firms ate here together and called it good for a gathering. One writer says the opposite side of it: the room is neither large nor small, and "for a big party you would have to take the whole place" (August 2024). The picture is of a shop with no separate function room, where a group is seated by joining tables. Only one post mentions booking at all, so with numbers it is worth checking first — except that no phone number for this shop is known (see below).

Naver Map has a full English mode — Settings → Language → English. In Korea it gives better walking and transit directions than Google Maps.

Getting inside

Nobody wrote about step-free access. Not one of the five looked at a threshold, a ramp or a doorway. About the inside, one writer notes that the tables are set well apart (January 2023) — but that is about the room once you are in it, not about the door. The licence record puts the shop on the ground floor, but that is copied from a government register, not reported by anyone who went.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Five posts are not five meals — two of them are one dinner. On 23 June 2025 two curtain-fitting companies ate here together and each wrote it up on its own blog: one as a joint company dinner, one as "two men out walking who decided on meat." Same date, same table, same food. The two texts are genuinely different, so neither is a copy to be thrown out — but counted as occasions, what we know is four, not five. Both posts are also a meal review bolted onto the front of a sales page: in one, our shop occupies the first third and curtains the rest. We read and counted only the meal. Neither is sponsored — one is tagged, in the writer's own words, "paid for it myself, not sponsored, *would like* to be sponsored." And one post tells its story twice. The January 2023 write-up runs: reads the menu, orders the whole belly, reads the menu again, orders collar, belly and jowl one at a time. Either two visits were folded into one post or the text was padded out. We counted only what locks together with the other posts — the ₩17,000 price, the hours, the glass wall — and left the rest alone.
  • The smell gets into your clothes — one writer says so. Having liked everything else, the January 2023 visitor names one fault: "if I have to pick one, the extraction is poor and the smell stays in your clothes." That is one of five, and no other post mentions ventilation at all. Pork over charcoal in a small room is no surprise, but it is worth knowing if you are meeting anyone afterwards. The same writer is warm about the room itself: wide and clean, tables set well apart, and one entire wall of glass that lets the light in. On size the posts disagree — "wide and clean" (January 2023) against "neither big nor small, a snug enough size" (August 2024), one writer each.
  • Not one of the five posts mentions the toilet. Whether it is inside the shop or shared with the building, whether it is separate for men and women — none of them says.
  • Nobody wrote about floors or stairs. The "ground floor" we know comes from the licence record and the address, and none of the five posts mentions a floor at all. What the posts do give you is the lane: it sits in the back lane behind the Ttukseom eating street, which one writer counts in its favour — quieter to eat in — and another experienced as a long wander through side streets before finding it by chance. It is not a shop you see from the main road.
  • We could not put opening hours in the table, and no phone number is known. Only one of the five posts gives the hours, and we do not promote one person's note into a table as though several had confirmed it. Here it is as written, in January 2023: "for reference, they are open 11:30 to 23:00 every day." That is three years old, and it comes from the one post that tells its story twice. No post mentions an afternoon break, a last order, or a closing day. No phone number appears in any of the five posts or in our register, so there is currently no way to ring ahead about hours or a table. Reservations are taken — but on one person's word: "in Ttukseom you normally cannot get a table for a group without booking well ahead, and here a day's notice was enough" (April 2023). How she booked, she does not say.
