Dunamjaui Gaesujak is a pink pojangmacha — a Korean drinking tent, in the loose sense — three to five minutes on foot from exit 8 at Ttukseom, in a lane beside the galbi street. It occupies a ground-floor room, tables out in the lane, a first-floor annex and a rooftop: of twenty-five writers, thirteen mention the roof and seven the lane. The path in front is private land, which is how the outdoor tables are allowed (two posts). It opens at six in the evening and closes at two in the morning (last order 01:30, no closing day — it used to run until three). What it sells is drinking food: fried things, soups, stir-fries, pancakes and dried snacks, with galbi-marinated fried chicken at ₩26,000, seafood jjapaguri at ₩15,000, soupy tteokbokki at ₩22,000, draught beer at ₩5,500 and soju at ₩5,000. Dogs are allowed (two posts; one writer sat on the roof with hers). A projector means people come for football. There is no parking. The toilets are split between floors, cramped, and the only basin is on the ground floor — three writers said the same thing across five years. We read posts from July 2020 to July 2026 — six years.

What sets it apart
- The roof is the reason people come — thirteen writers mention it. It is on the third level (above the first-floor annex) and you climb to it. One writer describes looking up at the tall buildings around Seoul Forest from it, a night view seen from below rather than above. But "there is a roof" and "you can sit on it" are different things: three writers could not get up there, for three different reasons — it was full (June 2021, so she took a table in the lane instead), too crowded (May 2023), and she was already seated downstairs (September 2022). One waited briefly for a table to free up and went straight up. The season matters: in winter it is tented over (March 2023), and one December visitor found it warmer and more comfortable than she expected, with every party arriving after her saying the same. From early April the whole lane fills with outdoor tables (March 2023). In summer there are insects — one worried about them in June, and another was caught out by mayflies off the river as it got dark (July 2024). Check the weather and the hour before you go, and if the roof is full, the lane is the fallback.
- After the roof come the tables in the lane — seven writers mention them, and the lane is private land. Two writers note it: everything up to the path in front belongs to the shop, which is why it is allowed to trade out there — one had never seen anything like it. A lane full of drinkers is this place's first impression: more striking than the roof, one writes, were the crowd filling the alley and the string of bulbs above them; another had been curious for a while because the outdoor tables were full every day; a third could not photograph the ground-floor seats because every one was taken. Several came in by accident: one was walking past, saw a projector lit up and people eating in front of it, and turned in; another simply thought, what is that atmosphere, we have to go there. One writer calls the sheltered corner of the lane "half indoors".
- You can bring a dog — and one writer did. A June 2021 post has "dogs allowed" in its title and explains that she went up to the roof because she had Coco with her. What she reports: a breezy day, cool, few insects and few people — though on a hot day she suspects there would be plenty of insects; and gratitude to Coco for waiting so patiently. A July 2024 writer also notes that pets are allowed. Two things to know: she sat on the roof, and nobody says whether a dog may come inside; and getting to the roof means climbing stairs. There is no mention of water bowls or anything of that kind.
- There is a projector, and people come to watch matches on it. Two writers mention it. In November 2022, just before the World Cup, one found two large projectors and marked the place down for the tournament, adding that she would have to get there at opening. In May 2023 another describes a big screen for football or baseball, which gives it the feel of a pub. On days with no match, something else is on: in 2020 an actress's face was being projected on the wall; in 2024, music videos on a loop. And the screen pulls people in: the September 2022 writer had not searched for the place at all — she was walking past, saw the projector lit and people eating in front of it, and went in. What is shown, and from what time, nobody records.

There is no car park; people use the district sports centre's. Two writers give the rates, and they are the two we counted: ₩300 per five minutes, ₩3,600 per hour, and when it is full, centre members get priority (September and November 2022). One notes it is the car park you end up using for any of the places around here — the galbi restaurants, the bakery — so it is shared across the neighbourhood. A 2024 writer says only that the lane leaves no room, and recommends the paid car parks nearby. This is not a place to drive to anyway: it is an alley pojangmacha serving until two in the morning, three to five minutes' walk from exit 8 at Ttukseom (two writers give the distance in their own words). Two say it is easy to find if you head towards the galbi street.

Not one of the twenty-five says whether a wheelchair or a pushchair gets in — and this place is built on stairs. None of the words appear. Here is what we know: the shop uses the ground floor, the first floor and the roof (five writers mention the annex, thirteen the roof); of the annex one says the evening really begins as you climb the stairs, and the roof is a level above that. The women's toilet is half a flight up and the only basin is on the ground floor — using it means changing levels. The ground floor has indoor seats and the tables out in the lane (one writer notes a bar counter and seating there). Number of steps, handrails, thresholds: nobody wrote them down. The lane itself is flat, and the path in front is the shop's own land. This is "nobody wrote it down" rather than "you cannot get in" — but every good seat here is upstairs.

What we do not know
- The toilets are the one complaint this place repeats — three writers, five years apart, describe the same thing. The layout: the men's is on the ground floor, the women's half a flight up, and the only basin is on the ground floor (July 2024). May 2021: very cramped, with no basin, so she asked for wet wipes on her way back. March 2023: too small, no basin, and she watched other women leave for a different bar because of it — she would have stayed longer if the toilet had been better. July 2024: separated by floor, on the small side, not clean or pleasant, and the basin has no soap, just a hose, which she calls old-fashioned; she hopes the whole arrangement gets improved. Across three years there is no sign of that happening. One writer does put it positively, but she means something else: at least you do not have to go outside to another building. In 2020 another was startled to find the toilet door standing wide open on the way up to the roof. Nobody mentions an accessible toilet.
- Prices have risen over six years — this is the place in our list where we can watch the same dishes longest. Fried chicken ₩20,000 (December 2021) → ₩25,000 (September 2024) → ₩26,000 (May 2026); seafood jjapaguri ₩8,000 (August 2020) → ₩15,000 (2024); fried squid ₩18,000 (November 2022) → ₩20,000 (September 2024); draught beer ₩4,000 (December 2021) → ₩5,500 (July 2024). Only soju has held at ₩5,000. Three writers call it dear, and all three in the same spirit: chicken costs more once it reaches Seongsu, one says, though the platter won her over — and in Seongsu you are paying for the atmosphere anyway; a party of five spent ₩217,000 and thought that a lot for a pojangmacha; and in 2026 another found the chicken price cruel at first and then reasonable once she counted the price of sitting outdoors. Nobody calls it cheap. The one writer who talks about value means the size of the sides — and she leaves the useful advice: unless there are three of you, order one thing first and see.
- Put the food notes together and the order is: atmosphere first, taste second — three writers were disappointed. In 2020: the menu was so-so, and honestly she cannot remember how anything tasted because they were busy laughing; what she remembers is how cool it was up on the roof. In 2022: the fried rice cake had no rice cake she could find, and the sauce was too sour for her, so she drank her beer quickly. In 2025: the entrance was hard to find and the galbi chicken she had most looked forward to was the disappointment — though on a fine day the roof still looks romantic. A 2022 writer summed the place up best: the food is not high quality, so it would be a shame to come hungry — better as an easy second stop than a first. And in fact fourteen of the twenty-five arrived after eating somewhere else, one of them on her sixth stop of the day. What is praised is specific: the hand-torn dried pollack (both who ordered it), the seafood jjapaguri (all four) and the fried chillies (both) — all three of them dry, fried or noodle dishes that need little cooking.
- Our posts span six years, which makes "now" hard to state. Twenty-five people wrote between July 2020 and July 2026 — three or four a year. In that time closing moved from three in the morning to two (last order 01:30), the phone number changed from a mobile to a proxy line, and prices rose by twenty to ninety per cent depending on the dish. So we did not count a 2021 price alongside a 2026 one. There are also two addresses — not because the shop moved, but because it holds two licences. Posts up to 2023 give 107 Wangsimni-ro; from July 2024 they all give 107-1. Our records had the same name twice: 107, first floor (52 m², licensed 2022) and 107-1, ground floor (15 m², licensed 2013). The posts describe exactly that: a small ground-floor room run together with the first-floor annex (2021); the building's ground, first and second levels — main room and lane below, annex above, roof on top (2024). Fifteen square metres is a kitchen and a counter, which fits. There has only ever been one listing. One business across two licences and three levels; which address to publish is a decision for a person to make. The licence is dated 2022 and the posts start in 2020 — it is not a different shop. In December 2021 a writer says she had been to the places that stood here before, and thinks the same owner runs them all; and from 2020 to 2026 the pink frontage, the roof, the annex, the galbi chicken and the painted "zone" sign are constant. A licence is reissued when an owner or a category changes.
- Three of the matched posts were not about this shop, because the name is an idiom — and there is something in that worth passing on. *Gaesujak* means a sly move, a chancer's trick, and it is a common word. So three of the twenty-eight belonged to other things: a diary that only used the word; a walk through Seoul Forest where the writer saw the sign and joked about what sort of trick the two men were up to, without going in; and one that uses the shop as the basis for a street name. That last is worth quoting: at the mouth of the Ttukseom café village, it says, stands a conspicuous pink parasol pojangmacha called "Two Men's Gaesujak" — and turning into what it calls, unofficially, "Gaesujak Avenue" brings you to the Seoul Forest café street. The shop is landmark enough to name a street, and the writer never went in. The same post adds: this is a word whose feeling would be hard to convey to a foreign friend. A Korean writer worried about that first, and we cannot carry the name over either — the nearest gloss is "the two men's dodgy moves", and customers keep making jokes out of it. The name explains the mood of the place better than any description of it could.
