Duck Fat
덕펫 Deokpet “Duck Fat” — the fat rendered from a duck, and the foundation of south-west French cooking; the one dish that has never left the menu is a duck-breast steak. Korean signs and posts write it both 덕펫 and 덕팻

Duck Fat is a French tasting-menu restaurant in a basement off a Seoul Forest lane. There is one menu — the Duck Fat Course, ₩59,000, nine or ten dishes with an aperitif. Eight seats at an L-shaped counter, one party booked per time slot. The chef serves each plate across that counter and explains it, and eleven of the sixteen posts treat that explanation as the point of the place. Closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The posts we read run from December 2025 to June 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- The price came down. Two posts written in December 2025 give ₩76,000; every post from February 2026 gives ₩59,000. One February writer quotes the reason they were given — so that more people could come — and six later posts mention the cut as something that lowered the bar. Of the thirty shops we have read, this is the first where the price moved down. One post from late March gives ₩69,000, but says it came from a two-person voucher. Not one of the sixteen calls the place expensive.
- Book. Eleven posts raise it and none says otherwise; Naver and CatchTable both take reservations, and one post calls it reservation-only. One party is seated per slot, so arriving on the hour means arriving late — one writer turned up exactly at seven to find the course already moving. Two note that a line in the booking note gets you a candle for a birthday.
- Eight seats. Four posts count them: three say eight, one says about ten. It is a single bent counter with the chef working on the other side. Eight posts call it quiet — one could not believe it was a weekend beside Seoul Forest. Nobody finds it cramped. Two guess the whole room could be hired.
- The talking is half of it. Eleven posts record the chef's explanations, and the same lines come back: why the butter is salted (five posts), why the salad comes after the main (five), to eat the duck skin (three), that the pie is straight from the oven (two). One writer says it felt less like eating than being told a story; another, that they know nothing about French food and followed it easily. Nobody found it too much.
- It is a walk from exit 8 at Ttukseom — five hundred and ninety-four metres and nine minutes, by one post; seven minutes by another; ten by a third. Two add that you can walk from exit 5 at Seoulsup. One recommends cutting through the park; one gives the landmark, a lane opposite the gate of a particular apartment block.
- You do not have to order a drink. A December 2025 writer leads with it, contrasting the place with the many that require one, and says the owner dropped the rule on purpose so that people could simply come and eat. Only one post says it outright, but five note that the aperitif has a non-alcoholic option and two that a driver is not left out, which fits. Wine is sold by the bottle, and one writer was told a pairing was being worked on.
- Six posts say a tasting menu this filling is unusual — that most leave you hungry and this one does not, that a grown man would not want more, that by the last course finishing it took resolve. One writer was told the portions were deliberately increased so that nobody would need to eat again afterwards. Two put it down to there being three main courses. Nobody says there was too little.

Parking
4 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

There is no car park. Four posts say parking here is hard and three recommend the train. One writer who drove leaves directions: a municipal car park by the Ttukseom retention basin, then a three-minute walk past the gardening centre, at ₩150 per five minutes — ₩1,800 an hour — with discounts for low-emission cars and large families. Another names a different municipal car park as the nearest.

Naver Map has a full English mode — Settings → Language → English. In Korea it gives better walking and transit directions than Google Maps.

It is a basement, down a flight of steps. Seven posts say basement and five of those describe the descent — the light dropping as you go down, a small entrance below street level, a half-basement. How many steps, and whether there is a lift or a ramp, nobody writes. Nor does anyone say whether a wheelchair or a pushchair gets in. That there are steps, five separate writers do say.
No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 17 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- The whole course was replaced. The ten posts from before May 2026 ate steamed oyster with caviar, a salmon confit risotto, lemon sorbet and tiramisu. The three from May onward ate a potato pavé with pork, cod meunière, raspberry sorbet and an opera cake. Only the onion soup and the duck breast appear in both. Two writers were told two or three dishes change with the season, one that spring means potato and summer abalone, one that April would bring changes. So anything marked seasonal below may well be gone.
- The opening hours differ by date — they look to have changed. Five posts from December 2025 to March 2026 all give 17:00–22:00. Four from April onward give 10:00–22:00 on Monday, Thursday and Friday, 11:30–22:00 at weekends, with a break from 14:30 to 17:30. Lunch seems to have been added: a December writer notes that lunch then ran only at weekends and that a weekday version was being worked out. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays being closed, all eleven that mention it agree.
- One post is not an account of a visit, and we left it out. It calls the place dog-friendly, which none of the other sixteen mentions; it gets the bakery's name wrong; and instead of saying what was eaten it lists what might be — oyster in one season, octopus in another. It reads as a compilation of the other posts. One post does disclose sponsorship, though only in a hashtag at the very bottom. For what it is worth, the two posts published on the same day in December 2025 each embed the booking link five times and repeat a 'book for Christmas' line. Neither says it was paid for, and we have not counted them as such. They are, however, the two that record the ₩76,000 price.
- Not one of the sixteen mentions a toilet — inside or out in the building. That it is all one basement floor, several do say.
- Nobody writes about waiting, one way or the other. The place books one party per slot, so there is presumably nothing to queue for, and none of the sixteen mentions it. What they do mention is the slots filling: one says they go quickly, another that the year-end dates need booking ahead.
