Something to say first: the posts we read run from December 2018 to November 2021, and in the four years since, nobody has written about this place at all. We looked through 238 candidate posts across Naver and Daum and found nine. Whether it is still open, we do not know — read what follows as a record that ends in 2021. It was a small steak house on Wangsimni-ro 8-gil, between Ttukseom and Seoul Forest stations. The steak came on one plate with fried rice, chips and grilled vegetables, served on iron so the rice crisped underneath; one writer records two people eating well for a little over twenty thousand won. What it was known for was steak in a cup, and a lunchbox — Seoul Forest is a short walk, and two writers report seeing people eat it on benches in the park. Drink was the other half of it, the walls dressed in beer bottles, and one post is titled after the best highball of her life. Five of the eight had been before, one of them four times.

What sets it apart

  1. Five of the eight had been before, and all five write like locals. One says the place is round the corner from her flat and she has been several times; another calls it somewhere she goes often and always orders the same cut; a third had been about four times and titles her post "a resident's repeat recommendations"; a fourth orders the same thing every visit. It reads as a place on people's route rather than a destination — one had walked past it for ages before finally going in, one searched for something quick before a walk, one dropped in after an exhibition, one for a lunchtime drink before a bar. Only one of the eight came from outside the neighbourhood. The rest lived nearby or were already nearby for something else. And the locals' posts stop in November 2021.
  2. Having Seoul Forest across the road is what shaped this menu. Four of the eight write about takeaway, and two of them had watched other people carry it into the park — one seeing picnickers eating the cup steak, another finding plenty of people on benches with it. The steak in a cup was what the place was known for, one writer comparing it to a cup of fried chicken. They would also pack the whole plate as a lunchbox, and one writer lists what was in hers: meat, fried rice, chips, hash brown, fried fishcake and vegetables. Four writers use the same framing — picnic essential, take it to the park, a note to bring a mat once the weather cools. A February 2021 post adds delivery through Baemin. Not one of the eight posts fails to mention Seoul Forest — the branch name was not just a location but the condition the menu was built around.

Getting there

Map showing where Double Hand Steak is

Naver Map has a full English mode — Settings → Language → English. In Korea it gives better walking and transit directions than Google Maps.

Getting inside

Nobody writes about wheelchair or pushchair access. None of the eight mentions a ramp or a step. The address is a ground floor, and writers describe a frontage that opened right up and an entrance that was all window, which suggests it was open to the street — but whether there was a step, we do not know. With four years of silence we have nobody to ask — check first that it is still trading.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 9 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • The most important thing first: nobody has written about this restaurant since 3 November 2021. We went through 76 Naver candidates and 162 Daum ones and confirmed nine; the collection is exhausted. A Naver map entry still exists, but that alone is not enough for us to say it is open. Four years of silence means you should check before going. Almost no prices survive. Not one of the eight records a price by dish — only bundles: twenty-odd thousand for two, a two-person set, a set with a large bottle. The writer who ate the lunchbox says plainly that her boyfriend bought it and she has no idea what it cost. We did not fill the gaps with guesses, so the price column is empty. The opening hours rest on one person — daily, 11:30 to midnight, from an August 2019 post. Nobody records a break, a last order or a closing day. Seven years old, so not in the table. Writers disagree on the size. One calls the room fairly large (2019); another counts four or five tables and calls it small (2020); a third finds it snug and quiet (2018). Two of the three say small. One post may reconcile them: the front opens right up, so it never felt cramped despite not being big. You ordered at the kitchen counter — no table bell — and one writer notes you could pay before or after. At one point the owner was working alone: an October 2020 visitor notes the wait, and that there were two chairs outside to wait in. Nobody mentions parking. One post advises public transport because everything around the station is paid parking — but that line is about the museum that post is actually reviewing. Two writers note that both Ttukseom and Seoul Forest stations are close.
  • Nobody reports queueing. Two accounts describe the opposite — a quiet weekday hour in a neighbourhood full of bars, and a snug room good for talking. One writer notes two chairs outside for waiting, so presumably people sometimes did, but nobody records having done so. One visitor, on a day the owner was working alone, notes the food took a while — cooking time rather than a line. Either way, this is all before the end of 2021.
  • Nobody writes about floors or stairs. The address is the ground floor and the eight posts leave it there. What is recorded of the room: a bar counter along the wall, four or five tables, small ornaments and bottle displays, and an entrance that was all window. No post mentions an upstairs or a private room.
  • Nobody mentions the toilets. None of the eight says whether they were in the restaurant or in the building. One writer counts four or five tables, so it may well have been the building's — but that is our inference, not a record. With no new posts in four years, there is nobody to ask.
