Daeyeop is a Pyeongyang-naengmyeon house in a Seongsu back lane, seven minutes from either Ttukseom exit 5 or Seoul Forest exit 1, under a gold sign reading 大燁. Five writers note that the chef appeared on the Netflix series Culinary Class Wars. Cold buckwheat noodles and pan-fried mandu are the core, but there are soups, boiled meats, pancakes and ribs too, and in the evening it reads as a drinking house. It opens at half eleven and closes at ten, with a break from three until half five, and a different lunch dish is discounted each weekday. A sister shop, Daeyeop Live Noodle Bar, stands immediately next door — different menu, different queue. We read posts from 22 July to 22 September 2026.

• 평양냉면11 ate it
  Pyeongyang naengmyeon₩13,000

  **The dish the restaurant is known for; eleven of our writers ate it**, at 13,000 won. **They disagree about the noodles**: one finds them strongly of buckwheat, firm, almost al dente; another found them oddly translucent and slippery. **The broth divides them too** — two call it properly seasoned and beefy, two call it the mildest they have met, clean rather than rich. **Instructions are on the wall**: loosen the garnish into the noodles, and finish by stirring the little bowl of garnished rice into what is left, with pepper or chilli. Four mention that bowl of rice. The pickles are white kimchi and pickled radish. One post prices the bibim version at 13,000 and a perilla-oil version at 14,000.

  Pan-fried and steamed mandu₩3,000 · ₩8,000

  **Six posts tell you to order the mandu with the noodles.** Eight thousand won for four pan-fried, 3,000 for two steamed. The pan-fried are steamed first then browned, crisp outside and wet within. **Three writers preferred them to the naengmyeon** — one had not meant to order them and changed her mind at the sight of the plate. Two praise the seasoning of the filling, chive-heavy and generous with pork. Half portions are available.

  **Some writers rate the meat above the noodles.** Half a plate of pork is 15,000 won. One, who eats a lot of boiled pork at Jeju feasts and considers herself fussy, calls it the best she has had — warm, soft, with no smell at all — and says that next time she will come for the meat and the soup rather than the cold noodles. Another ordered the pork without expectations and found it moist and clean. **A small bowl of rice comes with it.**

  Soups and stews

  **There are soups as well as noodles**: short-rib, beef yukgaejang, dumpling soup, sundae gukbap and a "Pyeongyang drinking rice" all appear on the menu. **Four writers ordered one** and all four rate them, one regular saying the soup and the boiled meat ended her search for a gukbap house and brought her back twice in a week. Nobody records the prices.

  Weekday lunch specials

  **There is a different discounted dish each weekday lunchtime, advertised on a board at the door** (five posts). **Two actually ordered from it**, one describing a Korean beef yukgaejang with proper chunks of brisket, spring onion, egg and noodles in a broth more warming than heavy. **Not one writer records which day carries which dish** — all five simply note that the offer exists.

  **In the evening it is closer to a drinking house.** One writer lists what three of them ordered: LA-cut short rib at 32,000 won, beef-pancake japchae at 13,000, prawn pancake at 14,000, half a plate of pork at 15,000, mandu at 8,000 and a bowl of naengmyeon at 13,000 — and says the menu is written for drinking. Another notes the eobok-jaengban on the list. Three mention ordering soju.

Parking

9 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

There are spaces in front, and no two writers count the same number. Eight looked: one, two, three, four — one of them hedging that it probably works even though it looks as though it should not. Two actually drove: one squeezed in, the other found a motorbike in one of the three spaces and parked elsewhere. One sums it up: parking exists but is tight enough that walking is easier. The noodle bar's own posts say the spaces belong to this side.

Naver Map has a full English mode — Settings → Language → English. In Korea it gives better walking and transit directions than Google Maps.

Getting inside

Not one of the sixteen says whether a wheelchair or a pushchair gets in. The words do not appear. All we know is that it is at street level on a lane; no one describes a step or the door. A notice says the room is small — that is why the whole party must arrive before you are seated — but nobody measures the space between tables (one counts about six tables, another describes long timber benches). The writer who came with a child says nothing about a high chair, and nobody mentions the toilets. This is "nobody wrote it down", not "you cannot get in".

That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 20 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

When the posts appeared

What we do not know

• People mix the two shops up, and they are not the same. We are at 36 Wangsimni-ro 2-gil, unit 3; Daeyeop Live Noodle Bar is at number 38, immediately to the left. One writer sets out the difference: Daeyeop is the full-meal shop, the noodle bar is for noodles; Daeyeop takes online and on-site waiting through Catch Table, the noodle bar takes walk-ins only. Even the afternoon breaks differ by half an hour — ours is three to half five, theirs half three to six. The summer pumpkin-and-soybean noodles belong to the noodle bar: one writer was sent next door when it sold out here, and another describes standing between the two doors not knowing which list to write her name on. The parking spaces are in front of our side.
• There is a queue, and you join it by writing your name on a whiteboard rather than in an app. Eight writers waited: thirty minutes for someone who arrived twenty minutes before opening and still missed the first sitting; three parties ahead at one on a Friday; ten to twenty minutes at Sunday lunch; ten minutes at twenty to one. Three did not wait, and all three name the hour — ten past one on a weekend, late in the evening, and a day when the heat had broken. Four describe the system and they do not agree: three say there is no app, just the board outside; one says Catch Table handles both online and on-site waiting. The handwritten accounts are more recent and more numerous. Your whole party must be present before you are seated (three posts, one quoting the notice). There is nowhere to wait — one writer stood in the sun and says plainly that there is no waiting room.
• No post declares a sponsorship and none states that it paid its own way — all sixteen are silent about money. Fourteen of the thirty are behind nothing here: five are other branches (four in Daejeon, one in Euljiro), five are the noodle bar next door, three never mention us except in passing, and one is a round-up that cites "public sources" — the same round-up that attached itself to Nanpo when we read that shop. The denominator fell from thirty to sixteen, and mostly because this name belongs to four different places.
• Not one post mentions the toilets. Whether they are inside, shared with the building, or separated by sex, we do not know. The noodle bar next door does say its own are indoors, but that is a different address and we have not borrowed it. Worth reading alongside the fact that you queue outside with nowhere to sit.
• It is at street level, entered straight from the lane — unit 3 at number 36, and none of the sixteen mentions stairs. One notes the gold sign, and eight describe the parking spaces immediately outside, so it plainly fronts the street. Whether there is a step at the door, and what kind of door it is, nobody says. A notice inside calls the room small, which is about seats rather than access. Do not confuse it with the noodle bar at number 38.
