Cheongjukgol 2

청죽골 2호점 Cheongjukgol Cheongjukgol means "bamboo-grove hollow"; the ribs are aged with bamboo leaf from Damyang. This is the second branch — one writer says the business is over thirty years old and moved here from the mouth of the old Seongsu rib alley.

Cheongjukgol 2 is a charcoal pork-rib restaurant at street level on Wangsimni-ro, two to four minutes' walk from exit 1 of Ttukseom station. The meat is grilled in the kitchen and brought to your table on the burner — ten writers say so, and it is mostly why they come. Four add that it arrives part-grilled and you finish it yourself. It opens at 6am and runs an all-you-can-eat Korean buffet until 2pm, after which it becomes a rib restaurant. One writer relays that the business is over thirty years old and moved here from the mouth of the old Seongsu rib alley a few years ago. Seongdong district lists it as an exemplary restaurant. We read twenty-seven posts from October 2024 to September 2026 and counted the twenty-two that describe a visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Being served the meat already grilled is the whole point of this place. Ten writers say so, and they say why it matters: one cannot grill meat properly, one had given up on grill restaurants out of sheer bother, one spent years hosting clients while juggling tongs and soju bombs. Two things to know. Nobody grills at your table — it comes out of the kitchen, and one writer admits misreading the sign outside. And the pork belly does not come grilled.
  2. It arrives part-grilled, and you finish it on the burner. Four writers describe this: it comes seared and needs only a little more, and one enjoys hunting for his own preferred doneness on the plate. One notes the burner keeps it hot to the end. So if you dislike meat cooked all the way through this suits you, and if you wanted to touch nothing at all it does not quite.
  3. This is a place people book for a group. Ten writers came with one: after a kendo tournament, after a swimming meet, the second half of a startup meet-up, the third stop of an idol's birthday-cafe day, a company dinner, a client dinner, a pre-wedding gathering. One, hunting for somewhere near Seongsu, says that price, headcount and location are three things that almost never line up, and here they did. By contrast only one writer came with a partner. Several posts recommend it for a date — but a recommendation is not a visit, and what we counted is who actually walked in with whom.
  4. Portions divide our writers, and the weight is on the small side. Four found them short, two generous. All four who found them short ordered only the pork ribs — one added a portion, one thought it dear for how much you get, one tells you to order more portions than there are people, one resolves to order three for two. The two who call it generous ordered the 600g beef platter, and four portions between three people. At 300g a portion, one portion a head appears not to be enough.
  5. There is a self-service bar, and nobody watches you use it. Seven writers mention it: lettuce and leaves, fresh kimchi, spring-onion salad, garlic, ssamjang and pickles, all in tubs. One says the free cheonggukjang can be refilled too. But one writer found the bar almost redundant — the staff came the moment she looked up and kept the dishes filled without being asked — and another found the side dishes not to her taste at all: nothing she liked, the sort of thing her parents' generation would enjoy.
  6. Not one writer reports queueing. Four say plainly that they did not — the room is big enough that they walked in. One notes that at lunch the tables fill quickly with people from nearby offices but turn over fast. Two writers found the place because of somebody else's queue: one gave up on the pork-wrap restaurant next door when the line looked over an hour long, and one came here rather than face the wait in the old Seongsu rib alley.

Parking

9 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park9 of 21 posts

You can park, but how many cars fit is disputed. Nine writers park in front; the two who counted disagree — four or five spaces, against nine. One warns there are not many and suggests ringing ahead. And every single post carries the same warning: satnav directs you into the alley behind the building, which is wrong — the entrance is immediately to your right off the main road. That sentence is the restaurant's own note on Naver, repeated by the check-in widget, so we did not count it; but two writers restate it in their own words, one adding that the Infiniti service centre next door is the landmark.

Getting there

Map showing where Cheongjukgol 2 is

Naver Map has a full English mode — Settings → Language → English. In Korea it gives better walking and transit directions than Google Maps.

Getting inside

We do not know whether you can get in. The address puts it at street level and several writers place it right on the main road, but not one says whether there is a step at the door, whether a wheelchair or pushchair gets through, or whether the toilet can be used. One writer notes a high chair. The claim of separate men's and women's toilets appears only in the post that copied its information from Naver, so we did not count it.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 26 posts we gathered, 5 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Another restaurant shares this address. Wangsimni-ro 134 is used by Cheongjukgol and by Family Son-Kalguksu Bossam. Two of the posts we gathered turned out to be reviews of that neighbour, in which Cheongjukgol appears only as the landmark you pass on the way up from exit 1. We removed both from the count. If you arrive by search, the signs are what separate them — two writers note that Cheongjukgol's is the big, obvious one and the pork-wrap place has only a small plate.
  • We could not verify the 6am opening. Eight posts give it, but not one writer went at that hour — the earliest visit on record is a weekday-lunch trip to the buffet. Sunday hours come in four versions (11:00–21:00, 10:00–21:00, weekends 11:00–22:00, weekends 06:00–22:00), and one writer warns in her own post that Naver does not have the hours right. If you are going on a Sunday, ring first.
  • Because it is grilled for you, you wait. One writer lists that as the drawback, and another's sentence begins "after a wait, the ribs arrived". Nobody says it came quickly. Since only one writer raises it and none timed it, we cannot tell you how long.
  • We could not count the ventilation or the air conditioning. One writer calls the room airy and well-ventilated, and two say that because the meat is grilled elsewhere their clothes did not end up smelling of it. Our attribute list has no slot for ventilation, so this stays as a sentence. If the smell matters to you, two writers saying it is less of a problem here is as far as our counting goes.
  • Nobody says anything about the toilet. Across twenty-two posts, not one writer mentions going. The claim of separate men's and women's toilets appears only in the post that copied its options list from Naver. Whether it is inside the restaurant, and whether there is an accessible one, we do not know.
