Cake Bar is a dessert café and bar in the half-basement below Flavourtown, a modern Asian restaurant in a lane off Seoul Forest. Several writers say the two share an owner, and five came down after eating upstairs. It is small — twelve writers describe three or four tables plus a short bar. The signature is a coconut cake with a torched sugar top, whose fruit changes with the season, strawberry to mango. What sets it apart

It is small, and that is the clearest fact about this place. Twelve writers say so, and those who counted seats broadly agree: four round tables plus a bar; three or four two-to-three-seaters plus a short bar; four bar seats with three tables further in; three tables plus the bar. Only one writer disagrees, and they collected a takeaway coffee without sitting down. One adds that the tables are not crammed together; another warns that the seats fill up fast.
It is a basement that is not quite a basement. The address says one floor below street level and sixteen writers call it a basement, but five describe a half-basement, half a flight down — "not the basement, not the ground floor, sort of half-sunken"; "you go down half a staircase before you see the door". Four mention an outdoor terrace that keeps it from feeling closed in, and three note daylight through the window. One writer found the entrance hard to spot after dark.
The menu names tell you nothing, so asking is part of the visit here. Twelve writers call the staff kind, and they mean much the same thing: one had the chef explain the signatures one by one because the names gave nothing away; one liked that each dish arrived with a short description; one was shown photographs and social posts and took a recommendation. Two note that when you sit down they light a candle and bring water suited to the weather — hot water on a cold day. One writer dissents: the server was not especially warm, but whoever looked more like the chef was.
Quiet is why people come. Six writers say so, and they say it against Seongsu: the cafés around Seoul Forest are always packed, this one lets you settle; it feels like a hideout only a few know. Three note the low light and the candle on each table, more so in the evening. Which means it does not photograph well — one writer tried every camera they had and gave up: nothing matched what the eye saw.
The toilet is inside. Two writers mention it, and both say it is clean but tight. One notes it is unisex and stocked with hand cream and wash. The other passes on what their companion said: sitting down, the basin is uncomfortably close — tall women and men would have it against their knees. That second account is second-hand, and we mark it as such. Both add that not having to go outside is worth a great deal.
It is expensive, and most writers make their peace with it. Two say so outright and both qualify it: one found the quality worth the money and felt looked after; the other lists "dear, and not much of it" as the only fault and then says they will absolutely be back. Two more call the portions small. At ₩13,000 a slice, ₩6,000–7,000 a coffee and ₩9,000 a slush, two people with one cake and two drinks are past ₩30,000. Nobody called it cheap.
The winter visits cluster, and five writers mention Christmas decorations. One of those posts went up in June 2026 and says the visit fell in the week before Christmas — the date a post appears is not the date of the visit. We count the date of publication, so if you read the seasons off our dates, know that.
There are seats outside. Four writers mention them; only one says how many — what is in their photograph is all of it. One thought it would be good in spring or autumn; one names it as the reason a basement does not feel shut in. And one writer found the place at all only because, coming out of the restaurant upstairs, they saw people drinking outside it.

Three posts say so, and two of them say what they did instead: the Ttukseom retention-basin public car park (one writer notes it is an easy walk and rarely full) and the district sports-centre car park. Nobody records what it cost. A fourth post says parking is "difficult, per the listing" — that is Naver's wording, not the writer's, so we did not count it.

We do not know whether you can get in. Five writers describe going down half a flight, so we know there are steps. But not one mentions a lift or a ramp, and not one says whether there is a threshold. Across twenty-four posts, nobody discusses getting in with a wheelchair or a pushchair. Two posts list takeaway, group bookings, wi-fi and dogs allowed — that is Naver's facilities blurb, so we did not count it.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 24 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

It is open until 11pm, and our attribute list has no slot for that. One writer calls a place open until eleven a rarity in Ttukseom; another calls it the only late café around. Cake with a drink is what this place is for. And yet almost nobody writes about the evening here — seven describe the bottles behind the bar, exactly one records ordering a drink, and three posts end with a promise to drink next time. What we can count for you is the daytime.
Monday is certainly closed; Sunday is not certain. Eleven posts give Monday, and seven of those add Sunday. But two posts from the summer of 2025 say it opens on Sunday — one with different hours (13:00–18:00), one listing Tuesday through Sunday. Posts on either side of them go back to Sunday closed. It looks like Sunday trading was tried and dropped, but we did not confirm that. The opening time moved too: two posts from February 2025 say 17:30, and the eleven after them say 13:00. One writer nearly made a wasted trip. And for the whole of December 2024 it was closed for private events and bulk orders.
One writer wondered whose Blue Ribbon it is. Four note the 2025 and 2026 Blue Ribbon Survey stickers by the door, and one of them asks outright whether the award was given to Cake Bar at all. Flavourtown upstairs advertises four consecutive years of it. We could not settle this — that the stickers are on the door is as far as our counting goes.
Being tied to the restaurant upstairs can change what you pay. One post — from December 2024 — records that a Flavourtown receipt gets you 10% off drinks and 20% off takeaway. The same post says the room can be hired for up to about fifteen people, with a ₩1,000,000 minimum spend that varies by day, time and headcount. Both of these come from one post, and one of the oldest we read — whether they still hold, we do not know.
