Bisabeol Jeonju Kongnamul Gukbap

비사벌 전주 콩나물국밥 Bisabeol is an old name for Jeonju, so the sign effectively reads 'Jeonju-style bean-sprout soup with rice' with the city named twice.

A Jeonju-style bean-sprout soup shop down a narrow alley off Wangsimni-ro 6-gil in Seongsu-dong 1-ga, near exit 1 of Seoul Forest station. The menu is just the soup and moju, and the soup was 10,000 won in every post from March 2025 to September 2026. Several posts describe the routine: a poached egg arrives first, you mix in laver and a few spoons of broth, then season the soup with salted shrimp and chilli. We read 30 posts from February 2025 to October 2026. We set aside one about a different shop and five that were sponsored templates or listings, which leaves 24 first-hand visits.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Expect a line at lunch. Of six posts that mention waiting, four saw or joined a queue. One visitor in October 2023 grabbed one of the last two or three free tables and came out to find about 20 people lined up. Another saw a long line one weekday, came back at 11:50 the next day and sat straight down. A third queued but said the turnover was quick enough to get in sooner than expected. A post from 3:30 pm found the place nearly empty.
  2. Posts split evenly on whether 10,000 won is fair. Of nine that discussed price, four called it expensive (one expected 5,000 won; another counted four pieces of squid for the money) and four called it reasonable for these times. Everyone agreed on the number itself: 10,000 won.
  3. Lots of sprouts, little squid. Five posts said the portion was big, one likening the sprouts to a whole supermarket bag. Others counted fewer than five pieces of squid, or four. A 2023 visitor felt full afterwards but hungry again within half an hour.
  4. Food comes fast. Three posts said so, one calling it quicker than instant noodles. The same writer said the clay pot arrives at a rolling boil and burned the inside of their mouth despite eating carefully.
3 more
  1. Roomier than the alley suggests. Four posts called it spacious and two called it clean. One expected a dim little old-timer and found it bright and airy; another said the room is nothing but tables. Two posts mentioned separate seats for solo diners.
  2. One post described a self-serve corner for more yeolmu kimchi and kkakdugi; the writer went back three or four times. Several posts list the sides as kimchi (or yeolmu kimchi), radish kkakdugi and sweet black beans.
  3. Three posts said it is easy to reach by subway. A 2023 visitor walked about 230 m, three minutes, from exit 1 of Seoul Forest station, but missed the narrow alley even with a map open; that corner is now the Mildo bakery. Another post said it is close to exit 8 of Ttukseom station.

From the station

Three posts said it is easy to reach by subway. A 2023 visitor walked about 230 m, three minutes, from exit 1 of Seoul Forest station, but missed the narrow alley even with a map open; that corner is now the Mildo bakery. Another post said it is close to exit 8 of Ttukseom station.

Getting inside

No visitor wrote which floor the shop is on. The '1st floor' in the registered address is not first-hand.

No one mentioned steps or a threshold at the entrance, or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. That means we don't know, not that there are none.

No one said whether the toilet is inside or whether it is split by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 21 posts we gathered, 5 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • There seems to be nowhere to sit while queuing. One post wished for a bench but noted the alley is too narrow for one. That is a single post.
  • Few posts said who they went with: two with friends or classmates, two with a husband, one alone. Several weekly diaries were office lunches with colleagues.
  • Four posts give the same hours, 07:00–22:00 daily, though two of them copied a listing. One noted the sign says '24 hours' but the real hours are 7 am to 10 pm. One post said there is no afternoon break, and two people ate there around 3 pm. One writer did find it shut over Chuseok, so check before going on a holiday.
  • Phone numbers don't match: one visit post gives 02-464-8704, a public listing gives 02-462-9202, and the 02-1234-5678 in a template post looks fake. No post says whether they take reservations.
  • Two posts came off the same template, with identical 'visit prep' checklists, the same '234 m from exit 1' line and a pasted Naver review counter; one admits it was written from public listing data. We counted neither. Opinion is split on consistency: one regular thought the taste had changed, another said it never wavers.
