Bamtori

밤토리 Bam is Korean for both 'night' and 'chestnut', and tori echoes the Japanese word for bird — the mascot at the door is a bear with a chestnut-shaped face.

Data as of · Published ·

Bamtori is a yakitori and kushikatsu izakaya a few steps below street level in a Seongsu alley (Wangsimni-ro 4-gil), between Ttukseom and Seoul Forest stations. It opens at 5 pm and runs until 2 am. The eight-skewer yakitori board is ₩26,900; during the 5–7 pm happy hour a bundle of eight yakitori and five kushikatsu is ₩29,900 and a Kirin draft is ₩5,900. Skewers arrive on a wooden board with each cut's name written on it, and a dish of cabbage comes free when you sit down. We read 30 posts dated 6 August to 29 September 2026; 27 were real visits to this place, and the other three only shared the name.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. 13 posts ate at happy-hour prices. Ordered separately, the eight-yakitori board is ₩26,900 and the five-kushikatsu set ₩14,000; the happy-hour bundle is ₩29,900, and Kirin draft drops from ₩8,000 to ₩5,900. One first-timer wrote that the owner spotted their order and told them about happy hour before they paid full price; another missed the window and paid ₩26,900 for the board alone.
  2. 19 posts said a dish of cabbage with a soy dressing arrives as soon as you sit, and three of them got refills. One noted that, unlike the Japanese otoshi, it isn't charged for.
  3. 20 posts described counter (dachi) seats by the door and tables further in. Those that counted gave three counter seats and six tables (two posts), or three pairs at the counter plus three four-tops and three two-tops (one post). Six posts called it small; only one thought it 'surprisingly roomy'. One solo diner sat at the counter to watch the grilling; another pair landed there because every table was booked at 6 pm on a Sunday.
  4. 7 posts said the charcoal grill sits in an open kitchen you can watch from your seat; two added that it is visible through a window from the street outside.
  5. 7 posts ordered from a tablet at each seat. One noted the tablet also lists house rules and how to eat yakitori; another copied the rules: a ₩13,000 food minimum (drinks excluded) and a 2 h 30 min limit when people are waiting.
  6. 21 posts called the kushikatsu or the chicken skin crisp; the thin batter came up again and again, and eggplant, shiitake and cherry tomato were the popular vegetable picks. One post found the heart 'slimy' and the wings pink, as if undercooked.
  7. 5 posts charged their phones at the seat, and 3 mentioned a basket or locker behind the counter seats for bags and coats.
  8. 2 posts, both from mid-September, mentioned an outdoor seating area at the entrance decorated with flowers and lights.
  9. 6 posts found it an easy walk from the station; the '3–5 minutes from Ttukseom exit 7' and '5 minutes from Seoul Forest exit 1' lines are mostly copied info blocks.
  10. 5 posts had first-hand booking experience — booked and walked straight in, booked for 6 pm on a Sunday, or found every table reserved and took the counter. Several said it takes bookings via Naver and CatchTable, and one copied the note that you can request table or counter in the booking. Seven posts gave the same phone number, 0507-1343-9617.

Getting inside

In a basement9 of 27 posts
Toilet inside6 of 27 posts
Separate restroomsyes 0 · no 4 (of 27 posts read)

9 posts said you go down a short flight of stairs into a half-basement. The registered address says B1, while the map card bloggers attach says 1F; no post described it as ground-level.

No post said anything about a step at the door or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. Nine posts mention going down stairs, and we don't know whether there is a step-free way in. That is a gap in the posts, not evidence either way.

6 posts said the toilet is inside the shop, and 4 of them said it is shared by men and women. Posts called it tidy; one mentioned hair ties and mouthwash left out for guests.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Two posts waited: one was first in line at a full house at 8:30 pm on a weekday, the other put their name down and got a call after a 30-minute walk. One post booked ahead and didn't wait. One post mentioned a sign-up list and chairs for waiting at the entrance. Nobody reported waiting during the early-evening happy hour.
  • Only five posts say who they came with: two with a partner, two with a friend, one alone. Many call it a good date spot, but that is a guess rather than what they did.
  • Twenty posts gave the same opening hours, 5 pm to 2 am, mostly copied from an info block; one said 'until 1 am daily'. Three said it is open every day of the year. Happy-hour days are disputed: five posts say daily, two say weekdays only, and one post got happy-hour prices at 6 pm on a Sunday. Nobody gave a last-order time.
  • Prices vary a little from post to post: the five-kushikatsu set appears at both ₩14,000 and ₩13,500, the three-piece set at ₩9,000 and ₩8,500, udon at ₩7,900 and ₩6,900, and the beef motsunabe at ₩24,000 and ₩23,000. An 24 August post warned the menu 'seems to have changed recently', but the figures don't split cleanly by date, so we can't say when anything changed. For a full meal, one pair spent under ₩40,000 on the happy-hour bundle, extra skewers and drinks; another put it at about ₩20,000 a head. Five posts called it cheap.
  • Most posts cluster in a two-month window from late August to late September, and six carry the same hashtag string. None disclose sponsorship, and one is written by a blog whose name is the same as the restaurant's ('Bamtori's Picks'). Two posts got a free skewer through the receipt-review event. So we discount the praise and count only what people ordered, paid and saw.
