Arucu is an izakaya in a half-basement down a side street, one to three minutes from Ttukseom station between exits 6 and 7. Three things carry it: a twenty-eight-piece sashimi platter, black karaage coated in black sesame, and a sesame hotpot with brisket. It opens at 5pm and closes at 1am, every day, with no afternoon break and no closing day. It is the second of three sibling izakayas — Irou came first, Kappo is a ten-minute walk away. Getting inside

Nobody writes about a step at the door. In twenty-nine posts the words for threshold, ramp, wheelchair and pushchair do not appear. Five describe going down steps, and four call it a half-basement, half a flight down. No post mentions a lift, and nobody counts the steps — only the phrase “half a flight”.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 30 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

When the posts appeared

What we do not know

• Do not take “there is a private room” at face value. Fourteen posts say there is one. But the four who looked and described it all say it does not close — two tables in it, so not really private; three tables in a tight space, so do not expect to be alone; not a room that shuts; three tables sharing an open bay. What it is, then, is a partly separated corner holding two or three tables. One post adds that parties over eight can have it to themselves if they ring ahead.
• Whether it is quiet splits, and it splits the same way each time. Thirteen say it is, three say it is not — and all three of those say the same thing: you can hear the next table. One writes that a loud group beside them drowned out their own conversation; another warns anyone hoping to be alone with someone. Nine posts recommend it for a blind date, which is the same observation read the other way. It depends who sits next to you.
• On Friday, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays you cannot order the sashimi platter on its own — only as a set, with a fried dish, a hotpot, a stir-fry or a drink, which takes ₩2,000 off. Only two posts state the rule, both copying the menu; four more describe ordering the set. The rule looks real. If your weekend plan was fish and nothing else, know it in advance.
• This is a place you book. Ten posts say they reserved through Catch Table or Naver, and several add that without it they would not have got in — on a Friday at 7:30, on a weekday at six, and even on a Sunday evening at seven, when a queue formed. Two mention a tablet at the door for joining the queue. Only one post says there was no wait at all.
• One writer found the mobile signal poor down there and says the staff handed over a wi-fi QR code when asked. Four others say the big door and window keep the basement from feeling closed in. Five mention the steps down and the yellow pavement sign that makes it easy to find.
• One person ate a different meal. Against twenty-eight posts praising the sashimi and the karaage, one writes that the fish was not bad quality, but nothing special either, and that the black karaage tasted like a sweet karaage that happened to be dark — not the crisp, just-fried thing you expect. Their verdict: hard to tell anyone they must go, but fine if you happen to be nearby. Twenty-eight against one. One is still one.
• There is no car park. Four posts say so outright, one sends you to a public lot, one tells you to ring and ask. The station makes up for it: one gives 155 metres from Ttukseom exit 7, five say a minute on foot, four say two or three. Three add seven minutes from Seoulsup and ten from Seongsu.
• The soy sauce for the sashimi is made in-house. Four posts say so; three note it arrives with fresh-grated wasabi. Chogochujang comes alongside — two describe both sauces being set down when the fish is ordered. One says pickled shallot and ginger come if you ask. Two note that what is on the platter changes with the season.
• Some dishes cannot be ordered on their own before 10pm. Tako-wasabi, the tomato salad and the skewers have to come with something else, according to one post copying the menu. Only that one post says it, and nothing else backs it up, so we cannot tell you it still holds — but worth knowing if you were planning to drop in early for one plate.
