Ulsan Mungtigi Yerang

울산뭉티기 예랑 Mungtigi is Daegu slang for beef cut in thick chunks and eaten raw; Yerang is the shop's name, borrowed from its parent house in Daegu.

Compiled from 28 blog posts read in fullSources →

Yerang is a raw-beef house on the ground floor of a drinking lane behind a wedding hall in Dal-dong, southern Ulsan. It sells three Daegu things: mungtigi, thick-cut raw rump; yukhoe, the same beef shredded and dressed; and odeuregi, ox aorta stir-fried with brisket and kept warm over a flame. The owner learned the trade in Daegu, and posts say the sauce is a patented recipe from the original shop there. Five in the evening until one in the morning, closed Sundays. There is a red beef stew and a yukhoe rice bowl for people eating rather than drinking, but nearly every post is about a drinking table. The posts we read run from March to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

These hours are counted from the posts we read. Shops change them without notice — check Naver Place before you go. Place — check hours

What sets it apart

  1. Someone comes over and tells you how to eat it. Mix the sauce first, then steep the beef in it rather than dipping — dip it and all you taste is sesame oil. Fourteen posts repeat that same instruction. While the odeuregi is going, staff return to change the fuel tablet as the flame dies; some diners are warned in advance that the pieces come in uneven shapes because the sinew is picked out by hand. One writer watched the owner turn the plate over and shake it to prove the meat was fresh.
  2. People leave having already chosen their next order. Fourteen say they will be back, and they are specific about it: next time the odeuregi, next time the yukhoe, next time the stew. Five posts are return visits and two of those have lost count. It seems to follow from the shape of the menu — six or so dishes, and you can only manage two in a sitting.
  3. What they give away gets more attention than what they sell. Arrive before seven and a 100g plate of aged yukhoe lands on the table; write a review and you pick something else on top. What that something is keeps changing across the posts — a hand-formed beef patty, a sorbet, a bottle of soju, more yukhoe, depending on the month. The patty comes up most, and several writers point out it is on no menu, so reviewing is the only way to eat it.
  4. One wall is covered in signatures, and two writers identify them as Samsung Lions players — one names the outfielder Koo Ja-wook. Both make the connection on the spot: mungtigi is a Daegu dish and the Lions are a Daegu team. Eight posts mention the wall; nobody else names a name.
2 more
  1. They call it roomy and they call it small, often in the same breath. Two count about six tables plus a long one for eight; two say it takes twenty-eight at a push; one says thirty. One advises keeping a single row to twelve. The five who call it small do not call it cramped — they say the gaps between tables are wide enough that you forget the next party is there. There are no private rooms; two writers say so.
  2. They take the Ulsan local-currency card. Three writers say so and one points out it makes the bill cheaper. Two posts mention a corkage charge, both inside a copied block of listing details, and neither says how much.

Parking

3 posts say you can park; 5 say you cannot. We leave the disagreement standing rather than picking a side.

Posts saying you can park3 of 28 posts
Posts saying you cannot5 of 28 posts

The posts contradict each other about parking, and only four people actually left a car. Three say there is room for one out front, five say two, one says three, one says three or four — and five say there is no dedicated parking at all. The first-hand accounts: one parked outside the shop next door because it was closed that day; one used a metered street lot and walked two minutes; one used a nearby paid lot; one reports that the Dreamcall lot looks full but the attendant will shuffle cars for you. Several mention an hour of validated parking at a partner lot, but that too sits inside the copied listing block. This is a place people drink at, so at least one writer simply took the bus.

Getting inside

Separate restrooms1 of 28 posts

Nobody wrote about floors. The registered address puts the room at street level, and across twenty-eight posts no one mentions going up or down a step. That only means the subject never came up — we cannot tell you on their behalf whether there is a step at the door.

Nobody wrote from their own eyes about getting in with a wheelchair or a pushchair. One post does contain the phrase, but inside a copied run of listing details — corkage, birthday perks, booking, wi-fi, groups, takeaway, waiting area, step-free entrance — and not one of those is something the writer checked. Beyond the fact that the room is at street level, whether there is a lip at the door, how wide it is, or what the inside is like, we do not know.

One person wrote about the toilets: separate for men and women, and kept clean. How many there are, and whether they are inside the room or out in the building, nobody says. One other post ticks a box marked "toilet", which tells us nothing.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 30 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • When the meat runs out, the day ends. One writer was told, as his plate arrived at half past seven, that it was the last of the night; the same post fills in the closing-day field with "depends on the state of the beef." Another found the yukhoe sold out; a third had been turned away on an earlier visit because a large party had finished the mungtigi. Ten posts tell you to book. One says weekdays bring same-day slaughtered beef while Saturdays and public holidays, when the abattoir is shut, bring aged beef instead — only one post says this, and we could not confirm it.
  • Not one post describes waiting in a line. What they do, ten of them, is tell you to book: four found the room full on a weekday, one found every empty table reserved, one says it fills from seven. The one writer who booked walked in to a table already laid and waited for nothing. How long you wait without a booking, or what happens when there is no table, we do not know — nobody wrote about it.
  • Only one writer explains how to get here without a car: she was going to drink, so she took the bus and got off at the Dal-dong crossroads stop. Everyone else locates the place by what it sits behind — the wedding hall (four), the grilled-meat lane behind the Dal-dong eating street (three), five or six minutes from the City Hotel, eight minutes on foot from two chain hotels, near a particular apartment block. No post names a subway station or any other bus route.
  • One post gives a different phone number. Twenty-seven agree on one; a single post lists another. We could not establish which is current. If you plan to ring ahead, check the listing as well.
  • Four posts declare a sponsorship: one opens with it, one closes with the standard line about being given the food but writing honestly, and two simply tag it at the bottom. One writer paid and posted the receipt. The other twenty-three say nothing either way — and saying nothing is not the same as paying. Two bloggers appear twice, so twenty-eight posts come from twenty-six people; one of those wrote once in May and again in September, and only the later post is sponsored.
  • Prices rose over the six months we read. The half-and-half plate is 60,000 won in July and August, 70,000 in two late-September posts. The mungtigi-and-odeuregi set runs 80,000 in early July, 89,000 in late August, 90,000 in September. The stew went from 25,000 to 28,000. These are not disagreements, they are increases, so we list both; treat the latest figure as the one to expect.
