Frank Coffin Bar Ulsan is an espresso bar and cafe down a lane in Dal-dong, Nam-gu, opposite the district office and the arts centre. Dark wood, red leather banquettes, LP sleeves and a cowboy hat on the wall, jazz on the speakers. Eight espresso drinks, from 3,000 won, and financiers and madeleines baked on the premises, alongside croffles, tiramisu and egg tarts. Bottled beer in the evenings. It is on the ground floor; a door at the back leads to a terrace and to the toilets. One of a chain with branches in Seoul and Busan. The posts we read run from August 2025 to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart
- A door at the back opens onto a terrace. Fifteen posts mention it. First-timers take that door for the way to the toilets and are surprised by what is out there. There is outdoor seating by the entrance path too, with a large teddy bear people photograph. Only two posts actually sat outside, though; the other thirteen end on wanting to come back when it cools down — most of them were there in summer.
- You pick your seat here. Eleven posts call it roomy and two of them counted: a bar rail with high chairs along one wall, four two-tops on red leather, three- and four-seaters in the middle, more bar seating by the folding window, plus a four and a six. One reckons anything from two to six people will find a table, and two note office groups coming in at lunch. Three mention the gaps between tables being wide enough to talk without minding the neighbours. Two say it gets used for blind dates — one of them counted two in progress while they sat there.
- There is a black-and-white photo machine. Six posts mention it and no two call it the same thing — instant camera, receipt photo booth, self photo machine, the thing that looks like a television. It prints long and narrow, like a receipt, and people hang their strip on the Christmas tree and leave it there — two did, and one plans to check next time whether it is still up. Separately, the order slip comes with a small drawing on it, done by hand; six posts mention it, and one noticed the drawings differ from table to table.
- Order two of the baked sweets and ice cream arrives with them. Six posts got a scoop, and all six went between June and September — one frames it as a hot-weather thing, so it may only run in summer. One writer's advice is simply to order two. Two other posts say a bottled beer comes with sweet-potato fries, but nobody records receiving those.
4 more
- A cafe by day and a beer bar by night — eight posts raise the beer. Two name the three bottles (Budweiser, Hoegaarden, Kozel Dark), and four split the day: dessert and a cold beer after dinner, a coffee date in the afternoon and a drinking date later. But a January 2026 post says the opposite — that for all the bar styling, it does not seem to sell alcohol. And in all twenty-six posts nobody drinks one. All eight are reading the board, not the table, and none records a price.
- The Christmas tree goes up in autumn and stays past winter. Line up the dates of the seven posts that mention it: 27 October, 26 December, 1 January, 5 January, 10 January, 6 February — already there in October and still there in February. A January visitor notes the new year has come and the tree is still twinkling; a February one finds it up in the first week of the month. One person hung their photo strip on it back in October. Another says the place becomes locally famous for it each season. But none of the thirteen posts from June to September mentions a tree at all — it appears to come down for summer.
- They take requests. Slips sit on the bar rail; write down a song, hand it over, and it plays — two posts say so, one of them relishing the moment when their pick lands right. Music comes up more broadly: five posts name jazz, and two remark on the speakers, one guessing they cost real money. One writer got a run of their favourite band and called it the best part of the visit.
- Four posts talk about the staff, and no two describe the same thing. A customer who arrived early was told not to wait outside in the heat. A mother arriving with a pushchair had it lifted in for her. One table was given a buzzer and then had the drinks brought over anyway. And the order slip comes with a drawing on it — that one turns up in six posts, one writer delighted to have something small to keep, another noticing the drawings differ from table to table.

Nobody writes about floors. The address line says ground floor and that is all; in twenty-six posts there is no upstairs and no basement. What two posts do describe is finding the door: one expected it at the front and had to go round the side; another thought the place was shut because the glass looked dark inside, and found the entrance immediately to the right. That two separate first-timers had trouble with the entrance seems more useful than the floor.
No post describes a step or a threshold — but one scene stands in for it. A September 2026 writer, praising the owner, notes that when a mother arrived with a pushchair he lifted it in for her. That reads as a pushchair not simply rolling through, but even that post does not say how high the step is or how narrow the door. In the other twenty-five, the words threshold, stairs, ramp and wheelchair never appear. The only 'ground floor' is the one in the address, and two posts note that the entrance is not on the street front but back down the lane. Whether a wheelchair can get in is not a no; it is something we do not know.
The toilets are outside the room. Two posts say so — you go through a door at the back, onto the terrace, and they are over there. Only one person recorded for themselves that they are separate for men and women with a basin of its own; they add that it smells good and has a fan. Another noticed flowers arranged beside the washbasin. Two more posts list 'separate toilets' inside a block of amenity tags copied from the map listing, which we did not count. Nobody complains about having to step outside in winter — but with only two people writing about it at all, that silence tells us nothing.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 28 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Nobody describes arriving by bus. What they give instead are landmarks: six to eight minutes on foot from the district office and the arts centre, ten from the department store, across from the wedding-dress street, in the lane behind the outlet mall, off the quiet street by Wangsaeng-i park. Two posts say it is easy to reach on public transport without naming a route or a stop, and one of those is a post we removed from the denominator. Ulsan has no subway, so that leaves buses, and not one writer says they took one. Parking, meanwhile, comes up in fifteen posts — most of these people drove, or were at least writing for someone who would.
- Nobody queued, and nobody failed to get a table either. Busy, though, comes up repeatedly: a Tuesday evening fuller than it had any right to be, a lunchtime crowd the writer put down to nearby offices, people inside and out on the terrace, a weekday afternoon with enough in that the weekend was easy to imagine. One person did wait, for a different reason — they had the opening time wrong, turned up early, and were about to wait outside when the owner told them to come in out of the heat. Whether you can book is unsettled: one post says to message the shop for groups or private hire, and two carry a 'reservations' tag copied from the map listing, which we did not count.
- The opening time and the closing day appear to have changed in spring 2026. Every one of the six posts from October 2025 to March 2026 says it opens at noon; every one of the thirteen from June to September 2026 says eleven. The closing day moves with it: five posts name Tuesday as the weekly closure, all of them between September 2025 and February 2026, while the two that say it never closes are from January and September 2026. A September 2026 writer specifically thanks it for staying open through the Chuseok holiday. This reads as a change rather than a disagreement, except that one September 2025 post gives eleven o'clock and a Tuesday closure together, which spoils the line. Closing time and last orders — ten and half past nine — are agreed by twenty-one posts, though one August 2026 post prints 21:30 in its information block and then says in the text that last orders were at half past eight, so it went at eight. Worth checking if you are going late.
- Four of the thirty confirmed posts were filtered out, leaving twenty-six. One was removed outright: word for word identical to another post, differing only in the blog address, with the same source embedded in both — the same visit counted twice. The other three we kept but took out of the denominator. One still has the template placeholder `{{장점}}` sitting in the middle of its text. One is built out of other people's reviews — 'according to one blog review', 'many reports say', 'there is a review that says'. One writes up the croffle as a product description and never says what it ordered or what anything cost. All three are long and look careful, but none records eating anything. Which is why the numbers on this page are twenty-six and not thirty.
- One post discloses sponsorship. It carries `#협찬` in the hashtag line of a link card at the very top, and in the body says it came 'through a good opportunity' before falling for the coffee and the pastries — disclosed, but not where a reader scrolling the text would see it. Eight declare they paid their own way. The other seventeen say nothing. There is no sign of commissioned copy here: the closing hashtag sets differ post to post, the orders and the times of day vary, and one writer openly ranks another Ulsan bar's orange coffee above this one.
- Three posts say dogs are allowed; one person actually saw one. That post, from October 2025, describes plenty of people with dogs and one very large retriever in particular. The other two carry the line inside a block of amenity tags lifted from the map listing, which we did not count. Whether that means inside or only the terrace, and whether there is a size limit, nobody says — only that a retriever was there.
