Omonja Yeonnam-jeom
오몬자 연남점 Oh! Monja — an exclamation plus 'monja', short for monjayaki, the runny Tokyo griddle dish the house is built around.
Compiled from 26 blog posts read in fullSources →
Omonja Yeonnam is a Tokyo-style monjayaki restaurant on Donggyo-ro in Yeonnam-dong, spread over a ground floor and a basement. Order a monjayaki (pollock roe and mochi 21,800 won; whole prawn or squid ink 23,800 won) and a staff member cooks it start to finish on the griddle at your table; most pairs took the two-person set with yakisoba or okonomiyaki (16,800 won on their own). We read 30 posts dated 23 June to 8 October 2026, 27 of them first-hand meals. One post about the Seongsu branch and one gelato-shop post were set aside as not about this place.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.
What sets it apart
- Staff cook at your table. Twenty-three posts say a server handled everything — chopping cabbage on the griddle at speed, building a ring, pouring in the batter, then finishing with a cat face in parsley or seaweed flakes (some were asked 'cat or dog?'). They tell you to wait three or four minutes and scrape up the crust with a little spatula. Different flavours are cooked one at a time, so several posts pass on the rule to call staff about ten minutes before you finish the first.
- Ten posts went with friends, two on dates with a spouse or partner, one as a group of three. Many had tried monjayaki in Japan and came looking for it again; first-timers said it was easy because the staff do all the work.
- Five posts mention a Naver review event that earns a mini karaage, an ade or a highball; diners actually received a mini karaage, a plum highball and a grapefruit ade.

Only one post dealt with parking first-hand: no parking at the restaurant, and the street-side public lot in front was under construction. Other posts' 'no parking' or 'public lot in front' lines are copied listing info, which we did not count.

Getting inside
| In a basement | 13 of 26 posts |
|---|---|
| Toilet inside | 1 of 26 posts |
Seating is on the ground floor and in the basement. Thirteen posts sat downstairs or went down to look. Upstairs is a calmer room with window bar seats and open windows; a stairway hung with red lanterns and bamboo leads to a larger basement hall papered with Japanese posters. When the ground floor looked full, there was room below. One diner saw only the kitchen downstairs and wasn't sure there were seats. Two posts called the floors '2nd' and '1st' — the same two levels.
No one mentioned an entrance step, wheelchair or stroller access, or a lift. Posts do describe a staircase down to the basement seating. This means unknown, not absent.
Only one post mentions the toilet: it is inside and connected to the dining room. Which floor, and whether it is split by gender, nobody said.
No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 27 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- The griddles make it warm. Two posts said the basement or the room was not cool, and two more felt the heat despite air conditioning or open windows. Staff handed out cooling patches when diners mentioned the heat.
- Waits vary. Two posts waited — three groups ahead and about 15 minutes at 7:30 pm, and third in line at opening with a queue forming mid-meal. Two walked straight in (seats free downstairs; around 9 pm on a Thursday). One weekday-afternoon visitor got the last table as booked guests streamed in.
- Two posts found it slow: one waited over 30 minutes after ordering because a server has to stay at each griddle until the dish is done, and another said the cooking took a while.
- Most found it salty: four posts said so (often adding that it suits beer), while one expected salt and found it nutty instead. One of the four tired of it after a few bites.
- It is a walk from the station. Four posts describe it from Hongik Univ. Station: 11 minutes, 15 minutes from Exit 3 ('you'll sweat in summer'), far but pleasant, or about 10 minutes with a tip to take the village bus from Exit 8.
- Three posts booked ahead, via Naver booking (one notes same-day booking worked). Many posts copy the phone number 0507-1316-4981, but none mentions booking by phone.
- All opening hours are copied listing info. All 19 posts that give hours say it opens at 11:30, and most say Friday and Saturday run to midnight, but Thursday closing splits between 11 pm (10) and midnight (8), with one saying 10:30 pm. Sunday is mostly 11 pm, with four saying midnight. Both versions appear in the same late-September posts, so we can't tell a change from a copying error. No post gives a closing day.
- Prices match across posts: monjayaki 20,800–23,800 won, yakisoba and okonomiyaki 16,800 won, Hanmac draft 3,800 won. Meal totals given were 43,000 won for the two-person set and 40,600 won for a prawn monja plus yakisoba. One post called the beer and okonomiyaki great value; another hesitated over the seafood ramyeon's price.
- Oh! Monja is a chain with several branches; a Seongsu-branch post was removed, and one post linked the franchise homepage. Everything here counts Yeonnam posts only. One post disclosed sponsorship.
