Cafe

Over Deep

오버딥 Obeodip Over Deep is a coined English name pointing at the deep sea — the café is decorated as an underwater space with jellyfish lights, sand floors and media art.

Compiled from 24 blog posts read in fullSources →

Over Deep is a deep-sea-themed café in a blue building on a Yeonnam-dong side street, taking the second and third floors plus a rooftop, reached by stairs. You pick madeleines and pastries onto a plate from the second-floor display, pay for them with your drink, and find a seat afterwards. The signature wave-cream latte is 7,000 won, madeleines 3,400–3,800 won, pastries 6,500 won. Almost every post describes the jellyfish lights, sand-and-pebble floors, glass tables filled with coral and shells, and the jellyfish media-art wall on the third floor. We read 30 posts dated 14 August to 8 October 2026; 26 describe a visit and 4 are multi-venue lists.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. 14 posts went up to the rooftop. Four mid-August 2026 posts could not use it because of the heatwave, two of them saying it was temporarily closed. From late August posts are up there again; one September post notes the carpet and sunshade are blue too, and the shade helped against the sun.
  2. One drink per person. Four posts mention it; one adds that a dessert does not count instead. Another was asked to order again after stepping out briefly to move the car.
  3. One post came with children. As they headed upstairs, staff warned that the sand on the floor contains glass powder and asked them to keep the children from touching it. No post mentions high chairs or changing tables.
  4. Five posts found it quiet — one went alone at a slack weekday hour, one called it calm enough to talk, and one found the third floor quieter than the second.

Getting inside

Second floor18 of 24 posts
Toilet inside4 of 24 posts
Separate restrooms1 of 24 posts

Nothing is at street level. 18 posts describe climbing stairs to sit on the second or third floor. Floor names vary, though: five posts call the first café floor the 'ground floor', and one explains that even that floor is one flight up. The rooftop is likewise written as either the third or fourth floor. Posts agree that the upper indoor floor is darker and holds the media art.

No post mentions a basement; every post describes floors going up from the second.

Several posts say you climb stairs to get in, but none mentions a lift, wheelchair or pushchair access, or a step at the door. That means we don't know, not that there is none. One post warns the stairs to the upper floor are dark.

The toilets are inside. Four posts say so, and one notes the men's and women's are on different floors. That is the only first-hand mention of separate toilets; another post's 'separate toilets' line was copied from a listing and not counted.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 28 posts we gathered, 4 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Many posts carry a copied line saying it is about ten minutes' walk from Hongik Univ. Station exit 3; three describe actually walking there, and one warns the alley can be confusing.
  • One post each way: one queued for coffee around 5 pm on a weekend, another found plenty of seats on a weekday afternoon. A line advising that weekends may have a wait is advice, not experience, and was not counted.
  • Company is scattered: two posts with friends, one with family, one on a date, one alone; the rest don't say.
  • Opening hours: 18 visit posts all give 11:00–21:00, closed Mondays, but most copied it from a listing. No post mentions a break or last order.
  • Prices mostly agree, with single exceptions: Americano is 5,500 won in most posts and 5,000 won in one; the churros madeleine appears at 3,800 and 3,400 won. One post's bill for a drink and three desserts came to 22,300 won.
  • Many posts list the phone number 0507-1474-0447; none says whether reservations are taken.
  • One post discloses sponsorship, one is a reviewer-programme visit, three say they paid themselves, and the rest are silent. Six posts end with the identical hashtag block in the same order, and several repeat the shop's own copy (three designers, bread baked daily, beans roasted in-house); we treat those lines as the shop's claims, not evidence.
