Compiled from 19 blog posts read in fullSources →

Kuhichi Yeonnam is a Japanese izakaya in an alley of Yeonnam-dong (Donggyo-ro 46-gil), near exit 3 of Hongik Univ. Station. You grill your beef katsu yourself on a small tabletop brazier and pair it with oversized futomaki or yukemaki rolls and hot pots. Prices in the posts: black-batter gyukatsu 23,000 won, plain gyukatsu 22,000 won, futomaki 28,000 won, motsunabe and the flower hot pot 30,000 won. There are branches with the same name in Yongsan and Apgujeong; we set those posts aside. We read 30 posts dated 25 March to 29 September 2026; 21 are about this branch and 19 of those record an actual meal. Fifteen of the 19 were posted within one month, 25 March to 23 April.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. The katsu doesn't arrive fully cooked. Ten posts say a brazier or mini burner was brought to the table so they could sear it themselves, with butter, wasabi and salt; melting the butter on the grill first comes up again and again. One post notes the flame burned so hot it kept going long after the meat was done.
  2. There are private rooms: five posts mention one, mostly on the second floor, and one describes a room for six.
  3. Eight posts say portions are large — futomaki pieces that barely fit in the mouth, a generous roe pasta, a motsunabe still full of intestine after a ladleful. One post felt the opposite and wished they'd been given more.
  4. Six posts say the katsu batter stayed crisp even after grilling; one found the plain gyukatsu limp and not crisp enough.
2 more
  1. Five posts say they didn't wait, and all went at opening time or on a weekday afternoon or early evening — first in the door at noon, or one of three tables at a weekday lunch. One post adds that the place filled up fast after 7 p.m. No one recorded what the wait is like on evenings or weekends.
  2. You order on a tablet or kiosk at the table, according to six posts; one says English, Japanese and Chinese were available. A post seated on the third floor notes staff mostly stay on the second, so even extra requests go through the tablet.

Many posts copy an info line saying there's no parking; two say so from experience, one of them having driven and used a nearby paid lot. The nearby lot names are copied info too.

Getting inside

Second floor11 of 19 posts
Toilet inside1 of 19 posts
Separate restrooms2 of 19 posts

Most diners end up upstairs: eleven posts sat on, or were shown to, the second floor. One says that even though there are seats just up the stairs from the entrance, staff sent them one floor higher. Posts disagree on how many floors there are — five describe two floors, three describe three (one was seated by a third-floor window), and one says the third floor was closed off.

No post mentions going down to a basement. The registered address lists a basement level, but nobody describes it, so we don't know which floor that is.

No post mentions a step at the door, wheelchairs, strollers or a lift. One only says they climbed stairs from the entrance. That isn't evidence it's inaccessible — nobody wrote about it.

Two posts say the restrooms are separated by gender, and one says there is a spacious, clean one on the second floor. Another post relays a companion's complaint of a strong sewer smell. We don't know whether other floors have restrooms.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 21 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Service splits two to two: two posts found staff friendly, while two wished they were friendlier, one saying questions about the sauces and burner went unanswered.
  • Twelve posts list opening hours as noon to midnight daily, all copied from the listing; one post confirms the noon opening by being the first customer. No one mentions a break, last order or closing day.
  • On price, posts disagree about rice with the katsu: one lists the black-batter katsu at 23,000 won including rice, another says rice wasn't included and cost 2,000 won extra. No visitor recorded prices for lunch-only dishes such as the kuhichi-don.
  • Six posts copy the same phone number, 0507-1373-9275. Two say they booked ahead, one through Naver. A copied notice says Friday evenings and weekends take bookings only for six or more, but another post quoting the booking page says regular bookings are open every day, so even the notices disagree.
  • Fifteen of the 19 visit posts appeared between 25 March and 23 April 2026, and five end with the identical hashtag block. None discloses sponsorship and two say they paid their own way. Some may be commissioned, so we didn't lean on the glowing language.
