Kakusita
카쿠시타 Kakushita is Japanese for 'hidden' — bloggers read the name as a tucked-away hideout, and the room does sit half a floor below a Yeonnam-dong back alley.
Compiled from 27 blog posts read in fullSources →
Kakushita is a Japanese izakaya half a floor below street level in a Yeonnam-dong back alley (Donggyo-ro 38-gil). It opens at noon with the same menu all day, so people come for lunch as well as drinks. Nearly every post ordered the same three dishes: the sous-vide chicken-thigh Yeonnam katsu at 15,000 won (eaten in 27 posts), mentaiko cream udon at 16,000 won (27), and a miso hot pot of beef intestine and tofu, motsunabe, at 34,000 won (25). All three for two comes to 65,000 won, and 7 posts said the portions were large. We read 30 posts dated July 10 to October 26, 2026; 28 of them describe an actual visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- It is not counter-only: 13 posts describe both a counter facing the open kitchen and regular tables — one counted about four 4-tops and five 2-tops, another said three or four 4-tops with mostly 2-tops and counter seats. Nine posts mention the open kitchen, where flames flare from the wok in view of the counter.
- You order by scanning the QR code on the table — 12 posts say so. A paper menu is on the table too.
- Seventeen posts found the katsu coating crisp; one described it instead as soft and moist rather than crunchy. Thirteen mention juiciness and 8 the thickness of the meat. Several explain that it is a thin batter rather than breadcrumbs, finished with a soy glaze.
- Ten posts call the food spicy, mostly the motsunabe, whose miso broth carries green chili — one called it a Korean-style take. Eight say nothing was greasy; one found the katsu dip got heavy and leaned on the pickled radish.
1 more
- Four posts (July–October 2026) mention a free ade per table for writing a receipt review.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside
| In a basement | 12 of 27 posts |
|---|---|
| Toilet inside | 3 of 27 posts |
| Separate restrooms | yes 0 · no 2 (of 27 posts read) |
You go down stairs to get in: 12 posts describe descending to the basement, several calling it a half-basement. It still gets daylight — one writer was worried about a basement room and found it sunny — and 5 posts mention window seats. Several also note that map apps send you to the back of the building and you have to walk round the alley to the front door.
We don't know about wheelchair or stroller access, a lift or a ramp. Many posts mention going down stairs, but none discuss steps or wheelchairs — that means nobody wrote about it, not that there is no access.
The toilet is inside the restaurant, per 3 posts; 2 of them say it is unisex, and one notes a small washbasin and mirror outside it.
No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 28 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Waits vary. Two posts saw a queue (full with a waiting list right after a 6 pm arrival; people lined up for the noon opening); 3 walked straight in. Several found it full by 5–5:30 pm on weekdays. Seven posts booked ahead through Naver or CatchTable, which is how most of the no-wait visits happened.
- Only 1 post describes the walk from the station (about five minutes from Hongik University Station exit 3). The '511 m from exit 3' line appears in many posts but is copied listing text, so we didn't count it.
- Six posts went as a couple, 3 with friends. None went with children, and none clearly went alone.
- All the opening hours are copied listing text. The most common version is noon–11 pm Sunday to Thursday and noon–midnight Friday and Saturday, open every day, with a 3:30–5 pm break (4–5 pm at weekends) — though posts split the days slightly differently, and one July 2026 post says 11 pm closing every day. Check before going.
- Prices were stable from July to October 2026, except that one post gave the mentaiko udon as 18,000 won (others say 16,000). One late-night visitor found the katsu sold out.
- The phone number, 0507-1348-8793, is copied identically across many posts. Reservations are through Naver Booking and CatchTable. One post says Seoul Pay isn't accepted.
- Sixteen posts from October 16–18, 2026 ordered the same three dishes and follow the same layout (info block, QR ordering, free salad, the three dishes). Only one discloses an invitation, but they may be a sponsored batch, so read the praise from that week with that in mind.
