Daeseung Gopchang

대승곱창 Gopchang is grilled beef small intestine; daeseung reads as 'great victory', though no post explains the name.

Compiled from 25 blog posts read in fullSources →

Daeseung Gopchang is a beef-intestine grill on the second floor of a building in a Yeonnam-dong alley by the Gyeongui Line Forest Park, a walk from Hongik Univ. Station exit 3. In 2026 posts people order the 500g mixed platter (small and large intestine, abomasum, heart) for 58,000 won; it comes pre-grilled, and staff finish it at the table with a torch, cut it and plate each cut with a suggested sauce. A clam soft-tofu stew, raw tripe and a little beef tartare come free, and meals end with roe fried rice (5,000 won) or Buldak noodles. Prices were lower in 2025 (55,000 won for the platter). We read 30 posts from September 2025 to October 2026; 26 of them describe a visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. You do not grill here. Fifteen posts say staff cooked at the table, and eight say the meat comes pre-grilled from the kitchen. After a torch flare-up staff cut the meat and set the first bites on your plate with a set pairing — small intestine with green-onion kimchi and soy sauce, large intestine with pickled radish, wasabi and capers, abomasum with sesame-oil salt. One post was told repeatedly to keep their hands off the tongs.
  2. The free spread is generous. Eighteen posts list the clam soft-tofu stew plus raw tripe and beef tartare at no charge, often remarking on how many clams are in a free stew. One post asked for a second plate of tripe and got it straight away.
  3. Whether you wait depends on the hour. Four posts waited: 20 minutes at 7:30 pm on a weekend, about 30 minutes on a Sunday evening, an hour after arriving around 7:30 pm, and one where a friend queued ahead. Five posts walked straight in, and the four that gave a time arrived between 4 and 5:30 pm. One got a table on a weekend evening but saw a line form outside while eating. A November 2025 post says there were only about four indoor waiting seats; the rest waited outside with blankets and a heater.
  4. You order on your phone. Nine posts used the table QR code (one an NFC tag), and posts note the first screen shows the house sauce pairings. One found it a bit of a hassle.

  1. There is outdoor seating. Seven posts mention terrace tables, and some sat there (a November 2025 post saw people eating outside with blankets and a heater). One July 2026 post says the two outdoor tables were being used only for people waiting — it seems no one ate outside in midsummer.
  2. Eight posts went with friends, the most common pairing; one each went with a mother, a husband, or a larger group. One post describes a young, noisy crowd better suited to soju than a quiet meal.

Getting inside

Second floor9 of 25 posts
Toilet inside1 of 25 posts

The restaurant is upstairs. Nine posts say it is on the second floor, and five of them mention climbing stairs, one calling them rather steep. The registered address says first floor, but every post that describes going in says second.

No post mentions a basement; everyone who described going in says second floor.

We do not know whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in. Several posts describe walking up stairs to the second floor, but none mentions a lift or the entrance step — that means no one wrote about it, not that there is none.

One post actually describes the restroom being inside and clean. Other posts list 'indoor' or 'unisex, inside' in copied info blocks, which we did not count; whether there are separate men's and women's rooms is unknown.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 26 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Opinions on portion size split: four posts found it generous, two did not — one thought the intestine portion was a little small, another said it suits two light eaters.
  • Nine posts call the staff friendly. Two are less sure: one was left waiting for the explanation and found the intestine nearly burnt, and one says staff kept forgetting requests.
  • Posts that timed the walk from the station say 5 minutes (two), 9 minutes (two) and 10 minutes (one); the rest just say it is close. No post came by bus.
  • Fourteen posts give the opening hours, all 3 pm to 11:30 pm, and twelve add that Mondays are closed — but every one copied the listing, as did the note about closing early when ingredients run out. Only one September 2025 post gives a 10:30 pm last order.
  • Prices have gone up. In September 2025 a post paid 25,000 won for small intestine and 5,000 for beer, and in November 2025 the platter was 55,000; from July 2026 posts show 58,000 for the platter, 27,000 for 250g of small intestine and 6,000 for beer. One October 2026 post still wrote 55,000. One pair's bill with the platter, two beers and sides came to 82,500 won.
  • The phone number copied by several posts is 0507-1472-1503. Many posts say you can join the queue remotely on CatchTable, but none actually booked ahead; one only vowed to next time.
  • The YouTube and TV appearances, the claim of same-day-slaughtered beef cleaned in-house, and the story that abomasum was added on customer request are all house claims or hearsay that posts repeated; we did not rely on them. One July 2026 round-up compiled other sources without visiting, so we left it out of the counts.
