BUKA

부카 Buka Buka is an acronym the owner coined from 'Be Unique, Keep Authentic'.

Compiled from 25 blog posts read in fullSources →

Buka is a brunch restaurant and wine bar half a floor below street level in a side alley off Seongmisan-ro, Yeonnam-dong. People come for octopus on paprika hummus, a shrimp-and-hummus panini, anchovy-lime aglio olio and an asparagus-burrata linguine; small dishes run 13,000–14,000 won, the panini 19,000, pastas 17,000–25,000. You order by QR code at the table. It opened in late August 2026 and in early October switched from mostly evening hours to 8 am–4 pm. We read 28 posts dated 5 September to 9 October 2026; 25 of them describe an actual visit.

Rows without a count: 2 of 5 posts.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Seventeen posts mention the open kitchen; one says it is almost as large as the dining room. Several wrote that they watched the owner cook while they waited.
  2. Fifteen posts call the room spacious. One counted the seats: by the windows two three-seat tables and a two-seater, in the hall three two-seaters and one table for eight — the big central table shows up in other posts too.
  3. Eleven posts ordered through the QR code at each table; some note that you pay at the counter after eating.
  4. Nine posts mention the red table and chairs outside the entrance, pitched as outdoor seating for fine weather — but none of them actually ate out there.
3 more
  1. Eight posts found the portions generous — the panini 'much bigger than expected', the squash soup in a big bowl. One disagreed: after the small octopus plate, it wished there had been more.
  2. Four posts walked from Exit 3 of Hongik Univ. Station, taking roughly 12, 15 and 15 minutes; one called it 'a bit of a walk'.
  3. No post reports waiting. Two say they didn't — plenty of room, and an empty dining room just after a weekday lunch. All of these are from September, within the first couple of months of opening.

Getting inside

In a basement9 of 25 posts
Toilet inside5 of 25 posts
Separate restroomsyes 1 · no 1 (of 25 posts read)

Nine posts describe going down about half a flight of stairs to get in — 'half a step down', 'about four steps below'. Yet they keep adding that it doesn't feel like a basement: no stuffiness or gloom, and you look up through the windows at the sky.

No post mentions getting in with a wheelchair or pushchair. Several describe walking down steps to the door, and we don't know whether there is a step-free way in; nobody mentions a lift.

Five posts say the toilet is inside the restaurant, behind a curtain, and some note an extra washbasin outside the toilet for washing hands.

Posts disagree on whether the toilets are separated by sex: a 26 September post says unisex, a 29 September post says separate, and nothing suggests a change in between. Another just says the toilets are 'separate'.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 28 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Opening hours changed in early October. September posts list Tue–Wed 5–9 pm and Thu–Sun 11 am–9 pm, closed Mondays (two give Tue–Thu evenings and Fri–Sun daytime instead); posts from 7 October list 8 am–4 pm Tue–Fri and Sun, until 8 pm on Saturdays, last order 3 pm, closed Mondays. Several posts warn the hours may shift, so check before going.
  • Prices: two posts say it isn't expensive, with many dishes in the low 10,000s. One couple paid 50,000 won for three plates. The pavlova is 11,000 won on the menu but one post lists 10,000 won in its order; we can't tell which is right. All prices are from September–October 2026.
  • Most posts give the phone number as 0507-1479-1122; one gives a different number. Many copy that bookings go through Naver, and one post actually booked and was seated at a reserved table. Private hire is arranged separately.
  • Some posts say the owner previously ran a small sandwich shop and moved to this larger space, but that is hearsay and we don't count it. The same goes for claims that the jambon, hummus and sauces are made in-house.
  • These posts were all written within the first two months after opening. Four disclose a sponsorship or free meal, and the same phrases ('great for wedding-invite dinners and blind dates') recur across many of them. Almost every verdict on the food is positive; critical notes are rare.
