Segyeop
세겹 Segyeop means three layers, the pun on samgyeopsal pork belly; a charcoal grill house in a Yeoksam back lane where the kitchen sears the belly first and brings it already cut.
Korean · Gangnam-gu, Yeoksam-dong
Data as of · Published ·
Segyeop is a charcoal pork house five or six minutes' walk from exit 2 at Yeoksam station, down the lane beside the BBQ Chicken at the Changeopga crossing. Ground floor, red door, a red neon pig over it. It opens at four in the afternoon, closes at eleven, and shuts on Sundays — there is no lunch service. The house renames its cuts: belly is segyeopsal, jowl is cheongyeopsal, shoulder is teukmoksal, and with gabri, marinated ribs and pork skin that is the whole meat list. To eat with it: a brisket-and-doenjang stew, cold noodles, a small steamed egg. The menu states that everything but the pickles is made on the premises, and a good many writers copy that line down. The posts we read run from December 2024 to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- The whole method comes down to one thing: the meat is seared over charcoal in the kitchen first, then cut into bite-size pieces before it reaches you. All that is left at the table is to lay it on the brazier and keep turning it; nobody picks up the scissors. A card on each table spells out the rest — belly, jowl and skin want to go golden, shoulder and gabri want to come off slightly under — and five writers copy it down. Several name this as the best thing about the place: at a work dinner nobody ends up grilling all evening instead of eating. Less spitting fat and less smell in your clothes come with it. The cost is a wait at the start — one writer notes that ordering means sitting for a while, because the searing happens out back.
- Staff come over, grill for you, and keep an eye on it while it cooks. Several say they lay the pork skin on first and then put the meat on and cut it; four make clear this is not a one-off but continuous — someone circles the room checking the grills, coming back between rounds. Both writers who ordered the marinated ribs say a member of staff took charge of them, because a marinade that sweet catches fast. One notes that the person grilling so deftly was a foreign worker.
- On a weekday evening you may have to wait. One writer arrived at eight on a weekday, found every table taken and waited fifteen minutes. Another says not every visit, but about three times, and that weekday evenings in particular are packed. A third, who lives nearby, says the weekday wait is a given and went on a Saturday instead. All three are repeat visitors. One mentions the sheet by the door where you write your name; one advises phoning ahead to ask. Tables are only held for parties of six or more — through Naver, and according to one writer the group bookings stop at half past six and run two or three a day, with everything else first-come.
- This is a place people come back to. One writer had been the same time last year and returned; one lives nearby and came again after half a year; one has worked through belly, jowl and shoulder and now orders the belly every time; one says two or three visits and uses it for meeting friends. A band that rehearses in the neighbourhood has had two dinners there. Eight posts open with the words after work, and more than ten talk about the office crowd in Yeoksam — it reads less like a discovery to pass on and more like somewhere the people who work and live around it keep returning to.
- Writers disagree about the same room: bigger than it looks, or snug. Those who call it big counted nine or ten four-seat tables set in rows along both walls and thought the shape suited a work dinner; one had been told the whole room can be taken for fifty. The three who call it snug are not complaining about space — bigger than it looks from outside, one says; cosy enough to settle into, says another. What several agree on is that every table can be moved and pushed together — so two people get a four-top, and a group gets them joined.
- The toilet is not inside the restaurant; it is outside the building. Only two writers went and reported back, and both say outside. One found it half a flight up in the building next door and clean; the other warns that it is outside and shared between men and women. Two posts that copied the Naver listing say there are separate men's and women's toilets — the opposite of what the people who went there saw, so we did not count the copied ones. Which is true now is not something reading can settle.
- Prices went up over the two years — this is change, not disagreement. 200g of belly was ₩19,000 in seven posts from December 2024 to December 2025, and ₩21,000 in four posts from 2026. The pork skin went from ₩13,000 to ₩14,000, and the doenjang stew from ₩9,000 to ₩13,000 — the stew rose furthest. Even so, every writer who stops to weigh the price lands on the same side: elsewhere ₩15,000 buys 150g, one calculates, so 200g at this price in Gangnam is fair; another says few places give 200g a portion any more; a third concludes that value for money exists in Gangnam after all. The most recent price we read is from September 2026.

More than one writer goes out of their way to say this: in Yeoksam you can drive to it. The space is the open ground-floor yard directly in front of the shop, and it is free. How many cars fit depends on who counted — two say two or three, one says four or five on a weekday, one says five, and one says more than ten will go in on a Saturday or a holiday. Two add that when it is full you can use the church next door. One writer actually drove there and parked.

Nobody wrote about getting in. In all twenty-nine posts the words wheelchair, pushchair, ramp, step, threshold and step-free never once appear. Many note that it is on the ground floor and many describe the red door, but no one looked at whether there is a lip at it. One writer places the toilet half a flight up in the next building; how many steps that is, or whether there is another way, nobody says. This is not a no — it is something we do not know.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know
- Ten of the posts we read went up within seventeen days in September 2026 (the 5th, 9th, 10th, 15th twice, 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st twice). Exactly one of those ten declares a sponsorship — a single tag at the foot of the post. We read them and kept them: the orders differ (marinated ribs here, an extra shoulder there, a steamed egg), each records something none of the others do (a fifteen-minute wait, a shared toilet outside the building, leaving work at four because of a pregnancy), and no two carry the same tags. But ten posts in seventeen days is not a number that happens by itself. Across all twenty-nine, three declare a sponsorship, four say they paid, and the remaining twenty-two say nothing either way.
- One post from April 2026 has an information block that is wrong from top to bottom — a different street address, a different phone number, opening hours of 16:30–22:30 on weekdays and 16:00–22:00 on Saturdays, and a price of ₩19,000. All four contradict the other twenty-eight posts. The check-in, the cut names and the grilling instructions are this restaurant's, so we counted the meal, but we took no address, phone number, hours or price from that post. Carrying a lone wrong figure through as a disagreement would invent one.
- No one wrote about bringing a child. Not one post mentions a high chair, a changing table, something for a child to do, or a no-children policy, and none of the writers came with a child. What we read is work dinners after hours, friends, and dates, and the door opens at four in the afternoon — so whether it works with a child is simply not something anyone recorded. Smoking goes unmentioned too. Nobody claims the wi-fi in their own words — the one post that lists it copied the line straight out of the Naver listing. What one writer did find for herself is a phone charger kept in the room, which she used while she ate.
- Two posts say corkage is free, and both are from 2025. One writer actually brought a bottle of wine — and, having forgotten glasses, drank it out of a beer glass — and dates the claim carefully to September 2025. The other simply copied the Naver listing. None of the twelve posts from 2026 mentions corkage at all — so we could not confirm it still holds. Ask before you carry a bottle in.
- There are two phone numbers. The one on the business licence is not the one in the posts: twelve writers give 0507-1364-3292, and one from December 2024 gives 0507-1364-3262, differing in the last two digits in what looks like a typo. An 0507 number is a forwarding line and need not be the number at the premises. Which one answers today is something we could not check.
- Only one writer says what floor it is on from having walked in. "1F" appears in more than twenty of the twenty-nine posts, but nearly always as the tail of the registered address ("7 Nonhyeon-ro 75-gil, 1F") or inside a copied header block, so we counted none of those. One post describes it as seen: the red door on the ground floor, down the lane to the right of the BBQ chicken shop. How many steps there are, whether there is a lip at the door, whether there is an upstairs — nobody says.
