대려도 Daeryeodo A Beijing-style Chinese dining room of 1950, upstairs in its own Gangnam building

Data as of · Published ·

Daeryudo is a Beijing-style Chinese restaurant on the second floor of its own building at 118 Yeoksam-ro, five to seven minutes' walk from exit 4 at Gangnam station. Writers record that it opened in Busan in 1950, moved through Myeongdong, settled here in 1983, and rebuilt on the same plot in 2016. A Twosome Place cafe and the Goose Island Brewhouse occupy the ground floor of the same building, which means posts about those two arrive under the same street address — we read and removed two of them. Private rooms line both sides of a corridor with the main hall behind, and there is separate banqueting space for sixty to a hundred. Most of these writers came for a family gathering, a work dinner, a client lunch or a meeting of two families before a wedding; at midday, people who work nearby come for a set lunch. Half past eleven until ten at night, closed between three and half past five. The posts we read run from January to September 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

These hours are counted from the posts we read. Shops change them without notice — check Naver Place before you go. Place — check hours

What sets it apart

  1. The free side dishes are the most written-about thing in this restaurant. Three of them: pickled mustard stem, roast peanuts, and dried anchovies fried with cashews. One writer finds anchovies odd at a Chinese table and impossible to stop eating; another calls them the house signature. Three asked for a refill, and one of those says the staff brought more without being asked. One warns that there is cheongyang chilli hidden among the anchovies, so try a piece yourself before passing the dish to a child. Hot jasmine tea arrives at the same time.
  2. This is a place you book a room in. They run down both sides of a corridor: a small one for four, one for ten, a pair that opens into one for sixty, and a banqueting hall for a hundred. They fill first, and some writers miss out — one wanted a room for a year-end family dinner, found them all gone, and sat by a window in the hall instead; another booked three weeks ahead. One writer was told that taking a room means taking a course menu, so ask when you call if you mean to order à la carte. Another was told a party of four could not have a round table. One turned the heating off inside their own room, so the rooms appear to have their own controls.
  3. Writer after writer says the same thing: in Gangnam, this one is easy to park at. There is a basement garage of some six hundred square metres under the building. One writer loves it because her car will not fit in a stacker; one was a new driver and grateful; one no longer has to circle the block. But the garage is shared with the Twosome Place and the Goose Island Brewhouse upstairs of it. One writer found it calm at ten on a Saturday morning and nearly full by the time she came back down from lunch and a coffee. You get the validation at the till by giving your plate number.
  4. Writers here tend to name what the staff actually did. A high chair appeared for a baby before the mother could ask, and when it narrowed the aisle they moved the chairs behind it out of the way. A diner who thought the pork would go better with salt than sauce was brought salt with white pepper ground into it. A couple seated at a two-top were moved to a four when one came free. Ask for one bowl split between two and they will split it — three posts say so, and the halves are still generous. The black-bean noodles come with the sauce separate, and a member of staff pours it. One writer's leftover pork came back neatly wrapped in a paper bag.
  5. They call it expensive, and almost none of them call it a waste. The usual shape of the sentence: dear for Chinese food, but worth doing once; not good value exactly, but good materials cooked with care; the price is high and the food outruns it. One writer does say it is too expensive to come to on your own money — and she was paying with a company card. More than half the posts we read describe a meal somebody else arranged: a family gathering, a work dinner, a client lunch, two families meeting before a wedding. Not one writer came alone. One couple ate at lunch for just over seventy thousand won between them, taking one dish and one bowl of noodles.
  6. You may bring your own bottle. One writer, in February 2026, brought two wines and paid ₩10,000 corkage on each, adding that the glass they give you is a little better than a last resort. The list has champagne and wine of its own, and one writer counted fourteen kinds of baijiu on it. But nobody in these posts ordered wine from the restaurant, so we do not know what it costs. What they actually drank was Yantai baijiu, Tsingtao and Baekseju.

Parking

13 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park13 of 26 posts

The free-parking allowance appears to have gone from two hours to three. A writer who visited in November 2025 and another in January 2026 both say two hours; one of them arrived early, left the car, and paid over ten thousand won in excess. Six posts from February 2026 onward all say three. This reads as a change rather than a disagreement, but we have not confirmed it with the restaurant — if you are settling in for a long meal, ask when you book. One writer gives the rate beyond the free period as ₩1,000 per ten minutes.

Getting inside

Second floor9 of 26 posts
Lift to the floor8 of 26 posts
Toilet inside2 of 26 posts
Separate restrooms1 of 26 posts

The restaurant is on the second floor of a building it owns outright. There are two ways up — a lift and an outdoor staircase; one writer mentions both, and the rest took the lift. The lift reaches the basement car park, and two writers rode it straight up from their cars. Off the lift there is somewhere to sit and wait outside the door, and one writer notes that the heavy front door opens by itself. From the second-floor corridor you look down on the street; one writer found hydrangeas in bloom there.

Nobody writes about getting in with a wheelchair or a pushchair. Across the twenty-six posts we read, the words for wheelchair, pushchair, ramp, step, threshold and step-free access do not appear once. Several posts copy Naver's facilities list wholesale; even that list does not mention it, and had it done so we would not have counted it, because the writer did not see it. Several writers do record that the lift runs from the basement car park to the second floor, but that is not the same as saying there is no step. One writer brought a baby and was given a high chair without asking; she says nothing about the threshold either. This is not a 'no' — it is we do not know. If it matters, ring 02-555-0550 before you go.

Only one writer actually looked at the lavatories. The phrase 'separate men's and women's' turns up in several posts, but always in the middle of a copied run — 'groups welcome, takeaway, separate men's and women's, wi-fi' — lifted straight from Naver's facilities list, so we did not count it. The one first-hand account is from April 2026: separate, well kept, and photographed. Counting that one, two writers went to a lavatory inside the restaurant at all. Nobody writes about how many stalls there are, how much room, a baby-changing table, or an accessible cubicle.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 27 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Not one writer queued. What they do instead is book: ten of them rang ahead, and one notes a board at the entrance showing which slots are taken. One went on a weekend without booking, found the place full, and got the last table; one found every room and table taken at Saturday lunch; one found the hall just as busy at noon on a weekday. This does not mean there is never a wait — it means the people who come here telephone rather than queue. There is somewhere to sit outside the door on the second floor if you are early.
  • Almost nobody records getting here by public transport on their own legs. A line reading '460m from exit 4 at Gangnam station, left at the Useong flats crossing towards Yeoksam primary school, five minutes on foot' appears in four posts word for word — a circulated direction, so we did not count it. Only two accounts are first-hand, and they point opposite ways: one writer came by subway, missed a train and arrived two minutes before her booking; another says the place is close to the Seocho Useong crossing but a fair walk from Gangnam station. The rest mostly drove. One more says only that she walked, without saying from where or for how long.
  • Not one of these posts declares a sponsorship. We read the bodies and the hashtags at the end of each. Four writers say they paid for themselves; three say somebody else did — a lunch the company bought, a work dinner on a corporate card, and a gathering where an organiser had booked and ordered in advance. The rest do not say. One oddity is worth recording: a writer whose text says her father-in-law treated her tagged the post 'paid for it myself'. Four of these posts are diaries that move through many restaurants; in those we read only the Daeryudo passage and counted only the Daeryudo passage — no parking, no lavatories, no waiting from any of the four, because those sentences may belong to the shop next door.
