Haemok Seochon-jeom

해목 서촌점 Haemok is written 海木, 'sea' and 'tree'; one visitor read the 'tree' as the all-timber interior.

Compiled from 24 blog posts read in fullSources →

Haemok Seochon is a Nagoya-style eel-rice (hitsumabushi) restaurant a few minutes' walk from Exit 3 of Gyeongbokgung Station, on the main road. It is the Seoul branch of a chain that started in Haeundae, Busan. The two dining floors are done in dark timber, Japanese-style. Hitsumabushi costs 40,000 won with one eel or 59,000 won with one and a half; kaisendon is 38,000 won. You split the eel into four and eat it plain, with condiments, as ochazuke, then your favourite way again. The most common second order was the tuna-salmon-negitoro bowl at 25,000 won. We read 30 posts dated 2 July to 15 October 2026. We dropped 2 that were about the Haeundae branch and 4 that only listed or introduced the place, and counted the 24 that describe a visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Whether you wait depends on when you go. Among walk-ins, six posts waited or saw a queue and seven walked straight in. The waits they recorded were 20, 15 and 5 minutes. Those who got in at once went on a weekday evening, at opening, right after the afternoon break, or just after the weekday lunch peak. One family found no queue on arrival but a long one when they left. The eight posts with a booking did not wait. Walk-ins join a remote queue through Tablering at the door; one post named CatchTable instead.
  2. Most posts found the eel clean-tasting: six said it was not fishy at all. Only one noticed a faint earthy smell and thought it would divide people. Five posts called the portions large; one said every dish seems sized for a grown man.
  3. Six posts said it is expensive; one put most dishes at around 40,000 won, and another wondered whether it was worth the money. A January 2026 receipt and October posts both show hitsumabushi at 40,000 won, so we saw no price change in this period. Two posts mention a free plum drink for writing a review.
  4. Several posts say staff explain how to eat each dish as it arrives, and three said this was done well. One post said the server at their table was really poor.

  1. One post, from a group of four, disagreed. They found the eel unremarkable and the soup slightly salty and ordinary, and said they would go to the Nonhyeon branch instead. The other visit posts were satisfied.

The most ordered dish is hitsumabushi (히츠마부시(한 마리)) — 19 of 24 posts.

The prices here are what bloggers wrote down in their posts, and they may have changed since. Check Naver Place for the current menu and prices. This list is not a menu board — it counts what bloggers actually ordered and ate. Check on Naver Place

Parking

1 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot1 of 24 posts

There appears to be no parking, but only one post experienced it: staff told them parking is hard locally and suggested a nearby paid lot. Every other 'no parking' line is copied information. Posts name nearby paid lots such as Baeksong, Crea and Samwon.

Getting inside

Second floor9 of 24 posts
In a basementyes 0 · no 4 (of 24 posts read)

There is upstairs seating. Nine posts were seated on, or described, the second floor, and one with a booking was taken straight up. Four posts described the ground floor, with counter seats along the window and four-person tables. Three posts mention private rooms upstairs, and one says you climb stairs to get there.

Nobody described the entrance step or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. 'Wheelchair accessible' appears only in three pasted info blocks, so we did not count it. One post mentions stairs to the second floor, and no post mentions a lift. That means nobody wrote about it, not that there isn't one.

We don't know where the toilets are. 'Separate men's and women's toilets' appears only in pasted info blocks; no post describes them.

No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 28 posts we gathered, 4 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Opening hours are the same in 20 visit posts: 11:00 to 22:00, a 15:00 to 17:00 break on weekdays, last order at 21:00, and no break at weekends. Almost all of these are pasted blocks, though, and no post mentions a regular closing day.
  • Ten posts give the phone number 0507-1477-6003 and one gives 02-722-6001. Bookings are through Naver Reservation. One post copied the booking page's note that phone reservations are not taken, and another post says the same. Posts copied a size of four to eight people for the private rooms.
  • Many posts follow the same promotional template. Eight open with the same pasted block of hours, phone, parking and corkage and repeat the same search keywords, yet none discloses sponsorship. Six posts show a receipt or state they paid themselves.
