Okcheonok

옥천옥 Okcheon is a place name and -ok is the old suffix for an eating house; none of the posts explain why the founders chose it.

Compiled from 22 blog posts read in fullSources →

Okcheonok is an old seolleongtang house in a converted two-storey home in an alley near exit 9 of Sinseol-dong station. Seolleongtang is 11,000 won and the large version 16,000 won; the earthenware bowl holds thin noodles and mostly ox-head meat, with rice on the side, and the kimchi and kkakdugi come in tubs you serve yourself from. It opens at 7 a.m. We read 30 posts dated January 27 to October 5, 2026; 24 describe an actual meal there, and we set aside the other 6, which were one-line entries in lists or diaries. One post disclosed sponsorship and four said they paid themselves.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Generous portions came up more than anything else: twelve posts said so. Posts on the large size said the bowl itself is bigger and that it is roughly half meat, half broth; one diner said a regular would be enough next time.
  2. Opinions split on smell: eight posts found no off odor at all, while three noticed a faint funky beefiness — and all three liked it. One diner had heard the house adds nothing to mask the smell, but noticed none.
  3. The old living room and bedrooms serve as dining rooms; you open a room door to find tables. One post mentioned floor seating as well as tables. Two posts noted strong air conditioning and two said it is roomier than it looks.
  4. One post says the restaurant was originally near Sangwangsimni station and moved here in 2008 because of redevelopment. All the 2026 posts we read describe the current Hajeong-ro 16 location.

Posts saying you can park4 of 22 posts

Four posts confirmed parking in the front yard, putting it at two or three cars. Four others were unsure, and one of them advised taking the subway because the alley has no real parking.

Separate restroomsyes 0 · no 1 (of 22 posts read)

You climb stairs to reach the door — four posts said so. Because it is the raised ground floor of a house, posts call it both the first and the second floor; two said you enter at ground level, not a basement.

We don't know about wheelchair or stroller access. Four posts mention stairs to the door, but none mentions a ramp or another way in — that means no one wrote about it, not that there isn't one.

Only one post described the restroom from experience: a single unisex stall inside the building, and clean. Other mentions were copied listing details.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 28 posts we gathered, 6 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • No post describes queuing. Some found it fairly busy even before noon, one family took the last bowls of the evening before the soup sold out, and one diner waited outside for the afternoon break to end.
  • For hours, fourteen posts gave Monday–Saturday 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., eleven gave Sunday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and thirteen a 3–5 p.m. break — mostly copied into the post header. One post alone listed 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. with Sundays closed, and one put the break at 3:30. Last orders at 8:30 p.m. (2:30 p.m. Sunday) appear in only two posts.
  • Prices were the same in every post from January to October 2026: 11,000 won for seolleongtang, 16,000 for the large, 25,000 for oxtail. Two posts noted the knee-cartilage soup handwritten down from 17,000 to 16,000 won. Three posts called the prices reasonable.
  • Six posts list the phone number as 0507-1413-8202; one copied 02-2292-8201 from the banner by the entrance. Every mention of reservations is copied listing info — no one wrote about actually booking.
