Podowon is a samgyetang specialist a couple of hundred metres from exit 2 at Sillim station, off the main road and a little way up a slope. The menu is three soups and nothing else: clear, perilla, black sesame. The two thick ones are what set this place apart from every other chicken-and-ginseng house, and most people order the perilla. Inside the bird: glutinous rice, jujube, chestnut, ginseng. On the side: cucumber, radish kimchi, dressed garlic chives, salt. Korean television came for the black sesame one in June 2026, and had been here several times before that. The posts we read run from June to September 2026.

What sets it apart
- On the dog days there is a line; on a weekday afternoon there is nobody. All three writers who mention waiting came around the first or second dog day of summer — one squeezed into the last free seat at lunch, and two sent a partner ahead half an hour to put a name on the list, which is how the queue works here. The one who turned up at four on an ordinary weekday found the room empty and had to call out to see if anyone was in; a second table arrived much later. Avoid the dog days, or the lunch peak, and the waiting seems to disappear.
- Ask and the side dishes come again — cucumber, radish kimchi, dressed garlic chives. Four writers got a refill, one of them two or three times. How you get it is described differently each time: one says the room is small enough that you ask a member of staff rather than help yourself, one says simply that staff will refill it, and one writes as though she fetched more herself. Two name the cucumber as their favourite; one found the radish kimchi salty.
- Order the soup and a glass of ginseng liquor arrives with it. Two writers say so and call it two different things: one gets an aperitif of insamju with the order, the other is told that sansamju is poured by the glass if you ask. The first writer then bought a separate sansamju off the menu for ₩8,000. Whether the free pour and the paid one are the same drink, we could not work out.
- It is a small room. Two writers call it more compact than they expected and note there are not many tables; a third counted about ten. The size is what makes the dog-day queue — one writer reckons that is why most people turn up right at opening. It turns over fast, though: two say the soup arrives almost at once.

Nobody has said whether you can get in with a wheelchair or a pushchair. In thirty posts there is not one word about a step at the door or a ramp. With the floor itself in dispute — the register says first floor up, the Kakao listing says street level — and an uphill walk to reach it, we can tell you neither that you can nor that you cannot. What we do not know
- We read thirty posts and eight of them are by someone who actually ate here. In the month after the June 2026 broadcast, twenty went up that copy the programme's notes or the restaurant's own handout. Eleven are listings-and-opening-hours pieces — one states at the foot that the photographs came from the restaurant, another opens by crediting it for every picture and fact. Four look commissioned: all four open on a sudden chill in the weather, in Seoul, in July; all four eat all three soups in one sitting; and all four drop links to their own posts about restaurants in Busan and Jeju between the paragraphs. Three are round-ups of five, ten and fifteen Seoul restaurants. One reassembles other people's reviews and quotes Naver's keyword tallies. Counted in, eight would become twenty-eight. The eight are eight different people, and none of them declares a sponsorship.
- Not one post mentions the lavatory. Across all thirty there is nothing about whether it is inside the restaurant or out in the building, whether it is shared between men and women, or whether there is an accessible one. That does not mean there isn't one. It means nobody who used it wrote it down.
- We do not know what floor it is on. The registered address says second floor; the Kakao listing for the same name says ground floor. The posts do not settle it either — one turns into a lane and goes slightly uphill, one tells you to walk up the slope, one finds the name written on a side door of the building — and not one of them says whether there are stairs, how many, or whether there is a lift. Two agree only that the approach itself is uphill.
- The posts disagree about the closing day. The restaurant's own notice lists all seven days at 11:30–21:00, and one post states there is no regular closing day, but two broadcast write-ups say it shuts on Mondays. Both of those were written by people who did not come. None of the eight first-hand writers mentions a closing day at all. Last orders are given as 20:00 in most posts and 21:00 in one. If you are planning a Monday, phone ahead.
