From:ago — the Sillim branch of the Hyostime bars — sits in a basement off a main road in Sillim. It is less a drinking place than a room arranged so that strangers end up talking to each other: one long horseshoe counter with stools inside and out, an ID check at the door, and a numbered coaster that tells you where to sit. You order by QR code from the table, and a cocktail pass bought in advance gets you one drink an hour. On the hour a staff member runs a game, and when the room fills up people are moved around. No food is sold — popcorn is free, and you may bring your own or have some delivered. It opens at eight in the evening and runs until the small hours. A May 2026 post calls it two months old, and everything we read falls between April and September 2026.

What sets it apart
- There is one table. A single long counter bent into a horseshoe, with stools inside and out so everyone faces someone — eleven writers describe it. Your neighbour and the person opposite are both strangers, and the house actively encourages you to move seats. Capacity estimates split between "twenty to thirty facing each other" and "a small room, about twenty." At the door your ID is checked and you are given a numbered coaster and a seat, and two writers say the seating is arranged to keep the numbers of men and women even.
- People keep arriving braced for a club and finding it quiet. Nineteen describe the room as calm, the music low; nobody calls it loud. Two put it as "not the kind of place where the music drowns out the person next to you," and one pair of self-described introverts had feared the opposite and were relieved. It does not stay that way all night: two describe drinking games, forfeit shots, and the owner dancing with the customers later on.
- The place is built for people who came on their own. Seven did; of the ten who came with a friend, several ended up apart — "she was off talking to other people and so was I." Three layers break the ice: notebooks on every table (ideal types, exes, worst moments) and balance-game cards; a game run by staff on the hour — two truths and a lie, bingo, first-impression papers, a raccoon passed around; and the seat shuffle once the room fills. The shuffle is not guaranteed. One writer was told it needs more than twelve people, and three were disappointed to find the night too quiet for it.
- The owner is a magician. Five writers watched card tricks, two of them told he does it professionally, and one counted two magicians among the staff. Not one of the thirty has a bad word about the service: they run the games, talk to whoever is sitting alone, pick your cocktail for you, and hand out nachos, canapés, biscuits and sliced peaches on the house. Bear in mind, though, that atmosphere is exactly what the sponsored posts were paid to praise.
- No food is sold, so you bring it or order it in. Eight say so, and three ate what someone else had delivered that night — fried chicken and pizza in one case, a plate of raw fish in another. The only thing on the house is popcorn, which three say gets topped up.
- The pass has to be booked ahead — ten bought theirs through Naver. One drink an hour means this is not a place you go to drink a lot: three glasses over three hours, or two, or in one case just one. A single writer guesses that walk-ins are possible when it is quiet, but nobody we read actually walked in. One notes that after ordering, the screen counts down the minutes to your next drink.
- An unusual amount of this is about the lavatory. Twelve call it clean and nobody says otherwise. Six place it inside the bar, four say in their own words that it is split by sex (one counting two cubicles on the women's side), and five mention mouthwash set out. Three explain why they are looking — "the lavatory really matters in a bar," "am I the only one who hates a shared one out in the corridor?" Eleven also note a dedicated spot for coats and bags.

It is a basement, reached by a flight of stairs. Ten writers mention the stairs — four of them only to say there is a mirror on the way down — and not one records how many steps there are, whether there is a handrail, or whether a lift exists. Across all thirty there is no mention of a wheelchair, a pushchair, a threshold or a ramp. Three describe a metal staircase up to a mezzanine inside, but none says whether the upper level is used. Whether you can get in, we do not know.

What we do not know
- Nine posts declare that they were sponsored — a free pass, a comped visit, a #ad tag. The other twenty-one say nothing, but twelve of them end with the same block of promotional copy: the list of branches, the brand's Instagram handle, and an identical shortened link to a "ten-million-view reel," in the same order. Seven embed the same single Instagram post. That suggests more of these were written to a brief than the nine that admit it. We kept all thirty in the count, because each names a different drink and a different game — what was there is reliable; it is the praise you should weigh more lightly. Some do complain: three found the room too empty for the rotation to happen, one sat opposite someone intimidating, and one found that a drink an hour left her too sober to keep the conversation going.
- The opening hours come in two versions and we cannot settle it. Thirteen posts say every day, 8pm to 4am. Four give a day-by-day schedule instead: until 5am Monday to Thursday, 6am on Friday, and a 7pm start at the weekend running to 6am and 5am. It is not a change over time — both versions appear from April through September. Both are copied from somewhere, and not one writer stayed to watch the place close. No post names a closing day. Even the phone number splits two ways. Worth checking before you go.
- Only four posts give a price and all four are from April and May 2026: ₩39,900 for men and ₩34,900 for women in one, a ₩34,900–39,900 range in another, ₩35,000 in a third, and "mid-thirty-thousands" in the fourth. Nobody since the summer records a figure, so we do not know what it costs now. Drinks outside the pass are paid for separately, and the only such price anyone writes down is ₩13,000 for an Earl Grey highball. Nobody calls it expensive or cheap; the word that recurs, six times, is simply "good value."
- Nobody reports queuing — the question here is what time you arrive. Seats are booked, so nobody waits; what recurs instead is an empty room. One writer walked in at half past eight to find four people, ten by the end. One arrived to an empty bar and was entertained by the owner's card tricks until someone else turned up. Another counted fourteen after ten o'clock, and one found every stool taken when she came at ten. One went too late and regretted it: most of the room left soon after she sat down. Separately, one blames rain for a thin night, one a quiet Saturday, one a public holiday that left ten people in. With no crowd there is nothing to buy here — the seat shuffle and the hourly games both depend on numbers, and three writers were disappointed for exactly that reason.
