Yongyong Seonsaeng Maradowon

용용선생 마라도원 Yong is 'dragon' and seonsaeng 'teacher' or 'Mr.', so the chain name reads roughly 'Mr. Dragon-Dragon'; Maradowon joins mala with dowon, the peach-blossom garden of East Asian paradise lore.

A mala-soup house in an alley off Achasan-ro 11-gil in Seongsu. The signature is the charcoal-grilled mala soup: 19,900 won for two, plus a required chicken (15,900) or lamb (18,900), so 35,800–38,800 won before extras. Bar seats wrap the kitchen, and ten posts describe eating while watching meat and vegetables charred over charcoal and torch. On the side come grilled rice balls (from 5,900) and chili-crisp fried chicken (16,900); to drink, kaoliang highballs and Yantai liquor — two posts noted there are no soft drinks. We read 29 posts from 26 June to 5 October 2026; 6 were about other branches and set aside, 1 only introduced the place, and 22 were actual visits.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Despite its reputation, most visitors walked straight in: of 14 posts that mentioned waiting, 11 got a table at once, at times like 6pm Saturday, 5pm Sunday, 7pm on a weekend, 6pm Friday and 8pm. One wondered whether the hype had cooled. One post waited 30 minutes on a weekend, and another saw groups of three or four queuing around 6:30–7pm while pairs were seated.
  2. The open kitchen is the centrepiece: ten posts watched the grilling from the bar seats around it, and several recommend the bar for the show. Seating is bar stools plus two- and four-person tables — one post counted five or six twos and about three fours. On size, two posts found it roomy and one did not.
  3. Five posts called the coating on the chili-crisp fried chicken crisp; one found it ordinary. The grilled rice ball was repeatedly praised for its crunchy crust, though one post said it took a while to arrive.

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 0 · no 2 (of 20 posts read)

We don't know the floor from experience: the address says ground floor, but no visitor described it.

We don't know whether there is a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or stroller fits — not that there isn't, just that nobody wrote about it.

The toilet is outside the dining room: two posts said you have to walk a fair way, one adding that it is old. Nobody said whether it is gender-separated or accessible.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 21 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Heat reads as mild: five posts said it wasn't very spicy, one said it was, and four were inconclusive. One noted a companion new to mala gave up partway.
  • Portions split: four posts found it generous, three small, one undecided. One of the 'small' posts said it suits drinking but falls short as a full meal.
  • Ordering is reported both ways: four posts used a table QR code, three ticked a paper menu with a pencil — both within July, so we can't say one replaced the other.
  • No visitor described the walk from the station; 'five' and 'seven minutes from Seongsu Station exit 2' come from copied info blocks, and one post said it's a fair way from Seongsu's main strip.
  • Staff impressions split one to one: one post was handed a fan with a kind word at the counter, another found the person in charge unfriendly.
  • Seven posts list opening hours as 4pm–10pm daily (last order 9pm), but all copied from info blocks; none mentions a closing day.
  • For a full meal, only one post gave a figure: about 80,000–90,000 won for two with drinks. Views on price split — one 'expensive', one 'good value', one undecided.
  • The phone number 02-462-0999 is copied from two info blocks, as is 'no reservations, walk-in queue only'; no visitor booked ahead. Three posts named Tabling for the waitlist, one CatchTable.
  • Smoke and ventilation split two to two: two posts found the air fine, two said it was poorly ventilated and hazy inside.
