연탄요릿집 성수 A charcoal-grill drinking house in the lanes of Ttukdo market, Seongsu, where the day's seafood is the real menu.

Data as of · Published ·

Yeontan Yorijip is a drinking house in the lanes of Ttukdo market in Seongsu. The name means charcoal briquettes, but what the place now turns on is whatever came in from the sea that morning. There is a live tank by the door and two menus: the fixed one on the wall and on paper — offal, chicken feet and hagfish over briquettes, pancakes, stews and hotpots — and the raw and steamed seafood, which you can only see by scanning a QR code, and which changes daily. Mackerel sashimi, filefish, baby squid, goose barnacles, summer oysters: things few other Seoul drinking houses carry. Four in the afternoon until half past three in the morning, closed Mondays. Chandeliers hang over walls covered in customers' graffiti, and the free side dishes are the pink ham and rolled egg of an old neighbourhood bar. There is another branch in Itaewon. The posts we read run from February to September 2026, and one of them describes a visit made in June 2025.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

These hours are counted from the posts we read. Shops change them without notice — check Naver Place before you go. Place — check hours

What sets it apart

  1. You will be walking, and this is the one thing every writer agrees on. Twelve of the twenty-eight describe the location and all twelve call it far; not one calls it close. How far varies: one says eight minutes from Seongsu station, three say ten, two say ten to twelve, three say over fifteen. Even the exit they name changes — 3, 4 and 5. One writer advises a bus over the subway, and notes you can walk from Seoul Forest on the Suin-Bundang line instead. And yet that distance is exactly why people come — five say they head for these lanes precisely to get away from the crowds around the station.
  2. Go before six, or go late as a second stop. Twelve writers queued and five did not, and lining the times up, the pattern is plain. The five who walked in came at six on a Saturday, at six on a Friday, before six, at nine on a Friday night and at ten on a Sunday. The ones who waited came at half past seven on a Friday, half past seven on a Saturday, eight on a Saturday (fifteen minutes), half past nine on a Saturday (thirty), half past nine on a Sunday, and straight after work midweek. A regular sets it out: up to about six on a weekday you will get in. There is a Tabling machine at the door; you put your name into that. Two others simply left it late — the queue is brutal, one says, so come at second-round time and stroll in.
  3. Booking is midweek only, and booking can hold the seafood for you. Two writers say the Naver reservation works Tuesday to Thursday but not Friday, Saturday or Sunday; one puts the cap at four people. More useful than that: one writer was told that because the seafood is bought in small quantities for freshness and often sells out, calling ahead lets the shop set yours aside — and a second post mentions the same keeping service. If there is something you have come for, say so on the phone. One regular books only when the party is large and otherwise just turns up.
  4. The free side dishes are an old neighbourhood bar, unchanged. Twenty writers describe them and the same things keep coming round: pink ham, rolled egg, braised fishcake, dried anchovies, seasoned seaweed stems, soy-braised potato, kkakdugi. One says they look like her mother's cooking; another like a country rice house; a third like the inside of an old lunchbox. Three start drinking on these alone before anything is ordered, and one notes they are refillable. But two writers complain about their condition — one, in September 2026, caught a sour smell off the rolled egg and left it; another, in August 2026, thought the egg, the ham, the fishcake and the potato all looked about to turn. Two out of twenty — but both in summer, and both about the rolled egg.
  5. There are two places where one dish is not enough. The briquette-grilled offal is ₩13,000 a serving but will not be sold under two, as six writers record. The other is the table itself: in July 2026 a writer ordered a beer and one grilled roe while waiting for her friends, and was told a single dish would not do — which stung, she writes, because they were going to order plenty. The rule seems to scale with the size of the party, but no post says what the number is, and neither do we. If two of you plan on one plate and a drink, ask at the door.
  6. You may bring a bottle, but it costs — and the two accounts of what it costs do not match. A work dinner in June 2025 puts the corkage at ₩15,000, and the writer was taken aback that it buys only the use of a glass. A writer who carried in champagne in August 2026 writes ₩19,000 a bottle, with a question mark. Neither is firm — the first hedges that she thinks that was the figure, the second leaves the question mark standing. Both confirm they are given proper glasses. Ring ahead if it matters.
  7. Both 'dear' and 'cheap' appear here, and which one you get depends on what you ordered. All four who call it expensive had ordered seafood: is this really what that costs, one asks of a plate of filefish; forty thousand won feels like a stretch for mackerel out of season, says another; too dear to come back to, says a third; the food is genuinely good, says the fourth, but too expensive. The three who call it cheap were looking at something else — twenty thousand won for chicken feet, rice balls and corn cheese, eight thousand for a large Kirin, and one writer who noticed the menu has no prices on it and concluded it was not dear anyway. The QR menu does carry prices, but one writer warns that scanning it is exactly how you stop looking at them, and then the bill arrives. One post sorts it out: the raw fish runs ₩20,000–40,000, the grills, snacks and hotpots ₩18,000–25,000.
  8. Write a Naver review and something extra comes — but what comes changes. One writer in June 2026 was given a choice between the steamed egg and griddled sweetcorn, compared them against the next table's, and took the egg; another, the same month, was handed a bowl of iced fruit punch, which she says is exactly right after raw fish and drink. A writer in September 2026 simply got the egg. You will not know until you are there.
  9. Four call it roomy and three call it tight, and read closely they are saying the same thing. The four all mean it is bigger inside than the frontage suggests — small door, surprisingly deep room. The three are describing sitting in it: worth knowing it is cramped, says one; not big but they fit a lot in, says another; the tables are jammed together, says a third. Two counted: about fifteen tables, and 'another six or so beyond what is in the photo'. And it is loud — four writers say so and none disagrees. Not the place for a serious conversation, one warns; a little noisy, says another, though we get noisy too once we have had a drink.

Parking

4 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot4 of 28 posts

There is no car park. Several posts carry a bare 'no parking' line in their header, and we did not count those — that is the shop's own notice. We counted the three who went and looked, and all three point to the same place: the Seongsu 2-ga 1-dong public car park at 571-1, two minutes on foot, ₩150 per five minutes or ₩1,800 an hour, open around the clock. The three posts, from July to September 2026, agree with each other on the rate and the distance. But not one of them says they actually parked there — all three are telling you where to go, not reporting where they went. It is a bar open until half past three; most people walk or take a taxi.

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 0 · no 1 (of 28 posts read)

Nor does anyone write about the floor or the stairs. The address ends '1st floor', and sixteen posts copy it across, but not one writer says they went up or down anything, or names a floor in their own words. All that is described is opening a door from the lane: a rough-looking entrance they liked on sight, an old-market frontage with chandeliers waiting inside.

Nobody writes about the threshold or about getting in with wheels. Across twenty-eight posts the words step, ramp, kerb, wheelchair and pushchair do not appear once. What we know amounts to this: it is at ground level inside a lane, there is a live seafood tank at the door with a queueing machine beside it, the lavatory is through a door at the back, and the tables are pushed close together. Whether a wheelchair gets between them we do not know. This is not 'there is no step'; it is 'not one writer mentioned it'.

The lavatory is outside the restaurant — but the door to it is inside. One regular, who has been more than ten times, is the only person in twenty-eight posts who writes about it: it is not in the restaurant proper, she says, but you reach it through a door at the back, so it is no trouble. We did not count whether it is divided by sex — one post does carry the words 'separate men's and women's', but only as a line in a copied Naver facilities list beside 'booking available, groups welcome', and that writer never describes going. Whether there is an accessible lavatory, no post says.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Thirty posts came in and we counted twenty-eight. One is a write-up of a different wine bar entirely, where our shop appears only as a headline in a list of nearby places at the very bottom; we threw it out. The other is a ranked round-up of twenty restaurants assembled by machine — the post itself states that it was built by automatically scraping and tallying public listing data, and that its scores and rankings are algorithmic; its line about our shop is a summary of other people's reviews. There is no batch of near-identical copy here — all twenty-eight name different dishes, different prices and different dates, and none went up on the same day as another. Not one declared a sponsorship, either. Thirteen state in so many words that they paid; one says the bill was her company's.
  • What you came for may not be there — this is what goes wrong here most often. Sold-out lines are struck through on the QR menu. A writer who arrived at half past nine on a Saturday found that every single thing she had been weighing up was gone, settled on the mackerel, and was told six portions were left. Another went for the mackerel and could not have it at all; a third picked the geoduck clam and was told it had just run out. Someone who ate the Yeosu whelks in June 2025 wrote later that they seemed to have been dropped from the menu — yet they are on the April 2026 board. Nothing was dropped; it simply had not come in that day. The later you go, the shorter the list.
  • The closing time and the closing day do not line up between posts. Fourteen say half past three in the morning, three say four, two say three. The four-o'clock figure is hard to write off as a slip: one of those posts repeats in its body that this branch runs until four. Opening splits too, eighteen for four in the afternoon and two for half past. Twenty posts give Monday as the closing day and exactly one, from May 2026, says Tuesday — one in twenty, which reads like an error, but we loaded it as written rather than correcting it. If you are going late, ring first.
  • There is a branch of the same name in Itaewon. Two writers mention it, one having only found out afterwards, the other resolving to go to whichever is nearer next time. All twenty-eight posts we read are about the Seongsu branch — whether the Itaewon menu or its prices match, we do not know. Search for the Seongsu one by name.
  • One post is eight months stale. It went up on 23 February 2026 but opens by dating the visit to 26 June 2025, and the writer says herself that it was a long time ago and she is not sure how much she remembers. Its prices are June 2025 prices — it puts the stuffed squid at ₩29,000, where two posts from August and September 2026 both say ₩31,000. It gives the spot prawn at ₩39,000, against ₩49,000 on an April 2026 board. Seafood is priced to the day here, so we cannot separate a price rise from a different day's catch. The mackerel is the exception: ₩39,000 in that post and ₩39,000 still in September 2026.
