Japanese

Tamgwang

탐광 Tamgwang is a Korean word usually read as 'prospecting' (for ore); none of the posts say what the owners meant by it.

Compiled from 19 blog posts read in fullSources →

Tamgwang is a Japanese rice-bowl and curry-noodle place in a side street off Yeonmujang 5ga-gil, a short walk from exit 3 of Seongsu Station. You order and pay at a kiosk by the door, then staff seat you. The signature is ebi katsudon, fried shrimp on a swirl of soft egg with pork cutlet underneath: three posts from September–October 2026 give 15,000 won, and the double-shrimp version is 18,000 won on a menu dated November 2025. There are both bar seats and tables, and three posts came alone and sat at the bar. We read 21 posts from January 2025 to October 2026, and 19 of them describe an actual visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Ordering is kiosk-only. Eleven posts ordered and paid at the kiosk on the way in, then handed the receipt or number to staff to be seated. One post (a Saturday at 3 pm, February 2025) said the kiosk line itself was long.
  2. Six posts waited and four walked straight in. One arrived at 1:20 pm on a weekday with three groups ahead; one waited 20 minutes behind a single group at 3:40 pm on a Saturday; one queued before opening and got in sixth. Those who were seated at once came at 12:30 (January 2025), at 3 pm, or at a quiet hour. One post noted that tables turn over quickly.
  3. Seven posts found the portions large and one found them small. Writers noted that the bowl looks small but cut cutlet keeps turning up inside the rice ('almost half rice, half cutlet'), and one skipped dinner after lunch here. One post said the portion was a bit small and would not return.
  4. It works for eating alone. Six posts mention both bar seats and tables, and three writers came alone and sat at the bar. Of those who mentioned company, three came as a couple and three with friends.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 2 (of 19 posts read)

You eat on the ground floor. Two posts say the basement is only a waiting area and the dining room is upstairs.

We do not know whether there is a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in; nobody wrote about it. Nobody mentioned an elevator either, even though the waiting area is in the basement and the dining room is upstairs.

We do not know where the toilet is or whether it is split by gender; no post mentioned it.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 20 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • How you wait has changed. Two posts from October 2025 and May 2026 describe a line inside the dining room, standing along the wall with no phone or text alert. Four posts from September 2026 on describe ordering at the ground-floor kiosk, waiting in a basement waiting area, and being called back upstairs by KakaoTalk message.
  • Posts disagree on space: two found it roomy with wide aisles, three found it small with tables close together. One post complained the room was not clean.
  • On the curry's heat it is two to one: two posts called the curry noodles mildly spicy, one found the mini curry udon not spicy at all. One post found the karaage salty.
  • On staff, one post found them very kind; another saw a server's handling nearly start an argument with another table.
  • Eight posts agree on opening hours of 11:30–21:00, and five give last order at 20:30. Three posts give a 15:30–16:30 break, one of them saying it applies only Monday to Thursday; one post says 15:00–17:00 instead. Most of this is copied from information blocks, so check before you go.
  • Prices vary by date. The double-shrimp bowl went from 17,000 won (July 2025) to 18,000 won (November 2025), and the cold soba set from 12,000 won (May 2026) to 13,000 won (September 2026). A bowl or noodle dish generally costs 13,000–18,500 won, plus 4,000 won for a mini curry udon or mini soba. One post called it pricey; another first thought so, then decided it was fair.
  • Three posts give the same phone number, 070-8869-3333. None of the visit posts say whether reservations are taken.
  • Of the 21 posts, we set aside one that only linked to Tamgwang from a post about a stationery shop, and did not count a six-place roundup built from public listings as a visit.
