Sakeba Kodeu

사케바 코드 Sakeba means sake bar, and Kodeu is the Korean spelling of the English word "code"; none of the posts explains the name.

Compiled from 17 blog posts read in fullSources →

Sakeba Code is a sake bar and izakaya on a side street near Ttukdo Market in Seongsu-dong. People come in the evening for aged sashimi (39,000 won for two), monkfish liver on cucumber maki (18,000 won) and a few pastas at 22,000–26,000 won, with sake, highballs or Hwayo soju. Three posts say regular Korean soju and ordinary beer aren't sold. We read 25 posts from February to September 2026: 3 turned out to be about other places, 4 only mention it without describing a visit, and 18 describe an actual visit.

Rows without a count: 6 of 7 posts.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. A complimentary starter arrives when you sit down; eight posts mention it. What they got varied: a tangy seaweed salad, konjac with seaweed, something like sour glass noodles, cucumber with chili paste.
  2. Four posts say every guest must order at least one drink. In one, a companion ordered only a cola and the writer ended up drinking two; two others note that non-alcoholic options make the rule manageable.
  3. Nine posts went with a reservation, made through CatchTable or Naver; one notes Naver lets you book the bar or the window seats specifically. One walk-in at 6 pm on a freezing weekday in January found only two seats left; a February post says the room filled up on a weekday at 8 pm.
  4. Three posts say you order yourself by scanning a QR code at the table. One adds that most items have no photo or description, so they had to look names up before ordering.
3 more
  1. The seating comes in several forms. Three posts mention a single seat outside the door; others describe the bar by the entrance, side-by-side window seats, and inner tables reached by crossing a little bridge over an indoor pond. One post counted six or seven bar seats and two four-person tables.
  2. Two August posts found the air-conditioning strong: one moved away from the bar because of the draft, the other ordered monkfish soup instead of pasta because they were cold.
  3. Three posts say the sashimi and monkfish liver had no fishy taste. One disagreed about a crab pasta, which it found shockingly fishy, and another found the red-shrimp bisque pasta far too salty.

Getting inside

Toilet inside1 of 17 posts
Separate restrooms1 of 17 posts

No post describes the floor level or any stairs from experience; only the address says ground floor. One post mentions the restroom is half a floor up.

No post says whether there is a step at the door or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in. Two posts mention crossing a small bridge to reach the inner tables, but we don't know if that involves a step. This means nobody wrote about it, not that there's no barrier.

Only one post described the restroom from experience: inside, half a floor up, with separate codes for men and women. The info lines in two other posts disagree — one says separate restrooms outside the premises, the other says inside. We treat info lines as copied and didn't count them.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 21 posts we gathered, 4 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Not everyone was won over: one September post called the food merely fine, said it wouldn't go back for it, and remembered the atmosphere more than the dishes.
  • Four posts put it about a 15-minute walk from Seongsu Station. Two called it a bit far without saying whether the walk is worth it. One notes the Ttukseom Hangang Park riverside is five minutes away on foot. Nobody mentioned buses.
  • No post describes queuing. Walk-ins found it nearly full, but nobody wrote about waiting or for how long.
  • Seven posts list the same hours: Tuesday–Thursday and Sunday 5 pm–1 am, Friday–Saturday 5 pm–2 am, closed Mondays. One gives last orders at midnight (1 am on Friday–Saturday). All of these are copied info lines, so check before you go.
  • Prices didn't change from February to September: 18,000 won for the monkfish-liver maki, 39,000 won for sashimi for two. One post paid 111,000 won for two including drinks. One found the prices fair, another said portions are small — better as drinking snacks than a full meal — and none called it expensive.
  • Two posts give the phone number 070-4409-0997. Everyone who reserved used CatchTable or Naver; no one mentions booking by phone.
  • Many posts repeat that BTS members V and Jungkook visited and sat at an inner window table; it's hearsay in every case, so we don't rely on it.
