Oukan

오우칸 Oukan Ōkan is Japanese for 'crown' — posts say the name means serving each guest fresh ingredients as if placing a crown on them.

Compiled from 28 blog posts read in fullSources →

Oukan is an izakaya tucked into an alley at Yeonmujang-gil 37-17, a short walk from exit 4 of Seongsu Station. People come for the aged-sashimi platter (moriawase, 48,000 won for two), torched-mackerel bar sushi (23,000 won), cream pastas, hot pots and tempura, drunk with highballs, draft beer or distilled soju. Seating is a counter facing the open kitchen plus two- and four-person tables. It's listed as ground floor, but you climb half a flight to get in. We read 30 posts from July 6 to October 3, 2026; 28 describe a visit (one person wrote up the same visit twice). One post was about a neighbouring shop and was set aside, and one was only a line in a list.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. A small complimentary snack arrives when you sit down. Six posts mention it — mostly crackers, once with a scallion cream-cheese dip.
  2. Ten posts say the sashimi and mackerel had no fishy taste. One found the salmon roe 'slightly fishy' and called the platter familiar rather than special.
  3. Seasoning runs light. Five posts say dishes weren't salty, two of them as a complaint — the ceviche and chicken nanban were 'a bit bland', the abalone pasta 'far too bland'. One post split: the clam broth was strong, the motsunabe weak.
  4. The counter faces an open kitchen; five posts mention watching the chefs cook. One said the raised counter front actually blocks much of the view.
6 more
  1. No post reports actually waiting. Three walked straight in — around 8 pm on a Saturday 'by sheer luck', as a second stop when 'one table happened to be free', and without a booking. Three others warn there can be a wait at peak times; one found it nearly full at 7 pm on a weekday.
  2. Seven posts booked, or note you can book, through Naver or CatchTable; one says you can choose counter or table when booking.
  3. The room is small: four posts call it cozy or 'not very big'. The tables are two-seaters that get pushed together for group bookings.
  4. Five posts mention the big windows or a window seat; one spent the meal watching the alley go by.
  5. Five posts found portions large — a sukiyaki pot 'about to burst', a tempura platter they couldn't finish.
  6. Two posts say food came slowly: the tempura arrived long after the pasta was finished, and a second dish came late on a full night.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 2 (of 28 posts read)
Step at the entrance5 of 28 posts
Toilet inside3 of 28 posts

It isn't a basement. Two posts place it on the '1.5th floor'; one liked that it's above ground, the other notes the ramen shop half a floor down is a different place.

Getting in means climbing stairs. Five posts mention going up — 'it says ground floor but you go up half a level', 'you have to take the stairs'. One warns first-timers that this makes it easy to miss.

No post mentions a wheelchair or stroller. Posts do mention stairs, but nobody says how many or whether there is a ramp or lift — that's unknown, not confirmed absent.

Posts confirm the restroom is inside, but no one described whether it's split by gender; only one copied info block says it's shared.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Twelve posts give the same hours — daily 17:00 to 01:00, last order 23:30 — all copied from listings. One gave 17:00 to midnight with a different address and phone number, so we left it out. One visitor went just after lunchtime, so we can't rule out earlier opening on some days.
  • Prices: the two-person moriawase is 48,000 won in posts from July to October 2026; one August 23 post says 45,000. The one itemised receipt shows 96,000 won for two — bar sushi, pasta and four drinks. One post calls it on the pricey side.
  • Five posts list the phone as 0507-1423-2980; one gives a different number. Most who booked used Naver or CatchTable rather than calling.
  • Many posts repeat the same talking points in the same order — the 'crown' name, discarding anything not fresh that day, house-made sauces, artisan pottery. These are the shop's own lines, so we don't count them as evidence. Only one post says it is an ad and one says it got a voucher; one says the writer paid; the rest say nothing. Two posts say regular soju isn't sold, one lists soju on the menu.
