MOKTAN

목탄 Moktan Moktan means charcoal — the house grills its yakitori skewers over a charcoal fire.

Compiled from 28 blog posts read in fullSources →

Moktan is a yakitori izakaya in a building down an alley off Yeonmujang-gil, a three-to-four-minute walk from exit 4 of Seongsu Station. Charcoal-grilled skewers are the core — a seven-skewer set for 23,500 won, ten for 35,000 — alongside Nagasaki champon hot pot (24,000), chicken nanban (18,000) and rice bowls of grilled mackerel or chicken and egg. You order by QR code at the table, and dressed cabbage arrives as a free starter. It opens at 5 p.m. and runs past midnight. One couple paid 51,600 won for a few skewers, highballs and a pork steak; a group of three paid 80,000 won for the ten-skewer set, chicken nanban and three draught beers. We read 30 posts dated 7 July to 29 September 2026; 28 describe an actual visit.

Rows without a count: 16 of 21 posts.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Eight posts walked from Seongsu Station, putting it three or four minutes from exit 4. One warned that every building on the alley looks the same.
  2. Eleven posts went with a reservation, and seven of them mentioned finding their name handwritten on the table. Three posts said Naver bookings are only taken up to the 7 p.m. slot.
  3. Only one post actually waited — the 7 July visitor said a queue formed a little after 7 p.m. Two walked straight in, one at about 8 p.m. on a Saturday when 'exactly one seat was left'. No one recorded how many minutes they waited. One post found it full at 7:30 on a weekday evening, and several mention queuing through a CatchTable kiosk at the door.
  4. Twenty-one posts said a plate of sauced cabbage arrives free as soon as you sit down.
4 more
  1. Fifteen posts ordered through the QR code on the table. Several noted a menu board outside the door, so you can decide before going in.
  2. Eight posts said you can watch the skewers being grilled. From the counter seats in front of the charcoal you see the raw skewers on display and the grilling up close; two posts said a glass screen kept the smoke out of the dining room.
  3. Ten posts mentioned a free potato salad for writing a Naver review, and six actually got it. Three posts said a Naver reservation brings a coupon for a free grilled-chicken rice bowl.
  4. Of the posts that said who they came with, six came as a couple, five with friends and one alone; the solo visitor recommended the window and grill-side counter seats for drinking alone.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 3 (of 28 posts read)
Step at the entrance6 of 28 posts
Toilet inside4 of 28 posts

The door sits a few steps up. Six posts said you climb stairs to reach the entrance — one put it at 'half a floor up', another wrote 'not the ground floor, not a semi-basement'. Three posts said it is at street level rather than below it; one alone called it the second floor.

No post mentions getting in with a wheelchair or pram, and none mentions a ramp or lift. With six posts describing steps at the entrance, it is worth calling ahead — this is an absence of reports, not a confirmed barrier.

Four posts said the toilet is inside the restaurant, two of them adding that it was clean. Nobody said whether it is split by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Opinions on size split three to two: three posts called it small or cramped, two called it roomy. Many describe a mix of counter seats and two- and four-person tables; one post counted about ten counter seats, another four.
  • All opening hours are copied from the listing. Twelve posts gave Sunday–Thursday 5 p.m.–midnight (last order 11) and Friday–Saturday 5 p.m.–1 a.m. (last order midnight), the most common version, but others wrote 'Saturday only an hour later', 'Friday to Sunday', or 'weekdays until 12:30'. No post mentions a closing day.
  • Prices mostly agree, with two exceptions: a Suntory highball at 8,000 won in one post and 8,500 in another, and tsukune at 5,000 on the menu but 6,000 on one receipt. No post called it expensive; two said the prices were fair.
  • Eleven posts list the phone as 0507-1490-1227; one lists 070-4047-1224. One post said reservations go through Naver (from one person) or CatchTable (from two).
  • Three posts disclose sponsorship, one is a review-programme visit, and three say they paid themselves. Phrases like 'true to its name, serious about charcoal cooking' and '100% domestic chicken' recur almost word for word across several posts, suggesting a brief supplied by the restaurant; we treated those as copied claims, not evidence.
