Cafe

castanea

카스타니아 Kastania Castanea is the Latin name of the chestnut genus; posts say the owner named the shop after the chestnut flower, the birth flower of the owner's birthday, and the signature chestnut mont blanc carries the same name.

Castanea is a dessert café on the ground floor of the shopping wing of the Lotte Castle Park apartments, near exits 1 and 2 of Seongsu Station. It sells petit gâteaux named after plants (9,800 to 12,300 won in 2026 posts), baked goods such as financiers, pound cakes and cookies, and whole cakes by reservation; an americano is 4,500 won. People eat in with coffee or tea or take things away, and several posts describe the hanging flowers and plants, often mentioning that the owner used to be a florist. We read 30 posts from December 2024 to September 2026; 21 are records of actually going to the shop. We did not count posts about delivery or gifts eaten at home, a department-store pop-up, list posts, or the owner's own blog.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. It's a walk from Seongsu Station. Nine posts described the route, and three said the quickest way is out of exit 1 or 2 and through the Lotte Castle Park apartment complex. Two posts put it at a five-minute walk; one said about ten minutes from exit 2. One warned that it looks like a flower shop and is easy to walk past.
  2. The room is small and quiet. Five posts said it was small, yet nine wrote that they found a seat, and one mentioned a bar table along the wall. One group of four had to split into two tables of two. Four posts called it quiet, three mentioned sunlight through the windows, and one said the chairs stayed comfortable over a long sit.
  3. Many customers take their order away. Six posts packed things to go. One said gift wrapping is free for baked goods over 20,000 won, with flowers on the box, and someone sitting inside remarked that most customers seemed to be taking out. Two posts booked ahead; one ordered a whole cake through Naver booking (Instagram DM also works) and picked it up.
  4. The owner looks after people. Three posts called the service kind: one was brought cold and warm water without ordering a drink, one got an apology and free bread after a wrong extra shot, and one was handed a baked sweet to eat while waiting fifteen minutes for the cake to come up to temperature.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

From the station

It's a walk from Seongsu Station. Nine posts described the route, and three said the quickest way is out of exit 1 or 2 and through the Lotte Castle Park apartment complex. Two posts put it at a five-minute walk; one said about ten minutes from exit 2. One warned that it looks like a flower shop and is easy to walk past.

Getting inside

No post described the floor or any stairs from experience; only the address says ground floor. That means nobody wrote about it, not that there is nothing to report.

Nobody wrote about a step at the entrance or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. We don't know.

No one said whether the restroom is inside the shop. One post copied 'separate men's and women's restrooms' from a listing, which we did not count.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 9 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • No post mentioned queuing. One found the place empty at lunchtime. But one arrived to find every table taken, and a group of four could not sit together, so it does fill up at times.
  • Prices rose around autumn 2025. Posts from December 2024 to June 2025 show the Castanea at 9,800 won and a May 2025 visit shows the Luxor at 11,000 won; from November 2025 the Castanea is 10,800 won, and in 2026 posts the Luxor is 12,300 won. Opinions split: two posts found it expensive for the taste, one called the price good, and one said it wasn't cheap but less than expected. One petit gâteau and a drink comes to roughly 14,000 to 19,000 won per person at current prices. Pop-up prices were higher and are not included.
  • Opening hours changed twice. Posts from December 2024 to April 2025 list 11:00 to 19:30 daily with no day off; June–July 2025 posts show an 11:30 opening, still daily (one says Sunday closes at 18:30); from August 2025 it is 11:30 to 19:30 with Mondays off. Nine posts give 11:30–19:30 now, mostly copied from listings. One September 2026 post says 12:00 to 19:00, Tuesday to Sunday, and we can't tell whether that is a newer change. One post adds that the owner sometimes closes for workshops, so check Instagram.
  • Only four posts said who they went with: two with friends, one with a younger sibling, one as a group of four. The rest didn't say.
  • Seven posts list the phone number 0507-1407-2706, all copied from listings; none describe booking by phone. One post reserved a whole cake via Naver booking or Instagram DM, and others had heard you can call from the car park entrance to stop briefly for a pickup.
