Japanese

Kaikatsu Seongsu-jeom

카이카츠 성수점 Katsu is the Japanese word for a breaded cutlet; none of the posts explain the 'Kai' part of the name.

A franchise tonkatsu shop on the ground floor of the Seoul Forest Korea IT Center, near exit 1 of Seongsu Station, which soft-opened in January 2026. The core is Japanese-style tenderloin and loin cutlet sets, with ramen and slushy cold soba alongside. Sets were reported at 11,900 to 13,900 won. You order and pay on a tablet at the table, and cabbage, pickled radish, pickled peppers and kimchi are refilled from a self-service bar. We read 23 posts dated July 2025 to October 2026. Two were about the Nonhyeon branch of the same name and were set aside, leaving 21 about this shop, 20 of them from actual visits.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Expect a wait at lunch. Five posts say they waited: 5 minutes, about 5 minutes and 10 minutes, and one, arriving around 11:30, was told a table would free up within 20 minutes. The poster who waited 10 minutes alone added that others were waiting 20 minutes or more. Two posts describe writing a name and phone number on a board at the door and being called back while waiting nearby. Two posts walked straight in, one at weekend lunch and one at 11:40.
  2. The room is small: eight posts said so. Seating is two- and four-person tables plus a window counter; one post says two-tops are pushed together to make four-tops and found the single counter seats very cramped. One post counted six or seven four-person tables, another about six tables.
  3. Ordering is done at the table: eight posts describe ordering and paying on a tablet at each seat. Some note a card or tablet screen explaining how to eat the cutlet.
  4. Nine posts used the self-service bar in front of the kitchen for more cabbage salad, pickled radish, pickled peppers and sauces. Three posts point out that kimchi is not served at the table and is only at the bar.

  1. Writing a review earns free croquettes. Three posts mention the review offer and two ate them; one said they were sweet potato, another found them oily and fine only as a freebie.
  2. Four posts come from repeat visitors: someone who lives right in front and has been four or five times, someone who comes whenever in Seongsu, a hospital worker nearby who goes often, and an office worker who goes on late-work evenings to avoid the lunch queue. Two posts were solo visits, and a family who came for dinner noted everyone else there was eating alone.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 2 (of 19 posts read)
Toilet insideyes 0 · no 1 (of 19 posts read)

It is at ground level. Two posts say so from experience, one because it opened on the ground floor of her own office building, the other noting it sits on the building's corner.

No post describes the entrance step or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller from experience. 'Wheelchair accessible' appears only in two copied information blocks. That means no one wrote about it, not that access is lacking.

The toilet is not inside the shop: one post says you go out and into the building. Two posts list separate men's and women's toilets, but only in copied information blocks, so we did not count them.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 20 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Opinions on the crust split four to one: four posts found it crisp, one said it lacked some crunch. Three posts called the meat thick and two mentioned juiciness.
  • Prices differ slightly between posts. Two posts from July and September 2026 give the loin cutlet set at 11,900 won, one June post at 12,500 won; cold soba is 9,900 won in April and 9,500 won in June. The figures do not rise or fall in date order, so we do not treat them as a price change. A meal is a set at 11,900 to 13,900 won, plus 2,000 won to swap the soup for curry.
  • Seven posts agree on opening hours: daily 11:00 to 21:00, last order 20:30. Six of them, though, are copied information blocks; only one read it off the shop's own notice, which also said there is no closing day.
  • Only one post says from experience that it is close to the station and easy to find. The 456 m and 460 m distances from Seongsu Station exit 1 are copied information.
  • The phone number 010-5552-2649 appears only in two copied information blocks, and no post says whether reservations are taken. Two posts say the shop phoned them back from the waiting list.
  • One March 2026 post just walks through location, menu and atmosphere without saying what was eaten, so we did not count it as a visit. Claims like same-day preparation, top-grade domestic pork and 24-hour ageing come from the shop's own blurb and are not used as evidence.
