Honghaemong

홍해몽 No post explains the name; the house slogan quoted in two posts reads 'sink, as in a dream, into sunset-red fire flavour', and the three set menus are named Hong, Hae and Mong after its syllables.

Compiled from 28 blog posts read in fullSources →

Honghaemong is a basement-level (half-underground) Korean restaurant at Ttukseom-ro 11-gil 15, Seongdong-gu, in the alleys off Seongsu Station exit 3. It serves tteolregi sujebi (24,000 won for two), wok-fired squid or pork stir-fry (12,000 won at lunch, rice included) and a squid-and-pork stir-fry on a hot stone plate (13,000 won per person, two-portion minimum). You order from a kiosk at the table and fetch side dishes from a self-serve bar. Posts describe it as a lunch spot by day and a place for set menus with soju or beer at night. We read 30 posts from 6 February to 23 September 2026; 28 describe an actual meal. One was about a different restaurant in Sanbon and was set aside, and one only listed the place in a top-ten roundup.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Of 19 posts that discussed portions, 18 called them large. The two-person sujebi arrives in a pot one writer compared to a crock jar, and another said three people could eat their fill from it. Rice comes packed into a large bowl. One post disagreed: plenty of rice, but not much squid or pork.
  2. Side dishes are self-serve: 15 posts mention helping themselves at the bar. It holds young-radish kimchi, seasoned bean sprouts and a light broth, with white kimchi in some posts. One writer went back for the radish kimchi twice, and many describe mixing the sprouts into the big bowl of rice with sesame oil and the stir-fry.
  3. Orders go through a kiosk or tablet at each table, as 12 posts note. Two posts pass on the house tip that a table ordering the same dish gets served faster at busy lunchtimes.
  4. No post called it expensive, and 9 said it was good value for the amount. Lunch stir-fries are 12,000 won including rice, and several writers compared that favourably with the rest of Seongsu.
2 more
  1. 8 posts found the fried items (squid, squid with water parsley, dumplings) crisp, and two noted the batter was thin rather than greasy.
  2. 8 posts walked from Seongsu Station, mostly from exit 3; one put the walk at about ten minutes.

Getting inside

In a basement17 of 28 posts
Toilet inside4 of 28 posts

17 posts describe going down stairs into a basement. Four call it half-underground, and three mention large windows looking onto the alley. Many describe red lighting, a bar counter and partitioned tables.

No one wrote about getting in with a wheelchair or stroller, or about a step at the door — that means we don't know, not that there isn't one. Seven posts do say the entrance is down a flight of stairs, and one warned that the steps are uneven in height. No post mentions a lift.

Four posts say the toilet is inside the restaurant, two of them calling it clean. Separate men's and women's toilets appear only in two copied info blocks, which we don't count.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • No post reports waiting. Four went late in the evening or mid-afternoon and found it nearly empty; one lunchtime visitor found it almost full and got the last corner table. Claims that lunch is packed are mostly hearsay or guesses, so we didn't count them.
  • Opening hours have changed and still disagree. Three posts from February 2026 give 11:00 to 21:30 (one says 21:00); two of them mention a break (15:00–17:00 or 14:00–17:00) and one says closed Sundays. From April, posts say there's no break and it's open daily. Since March, 14 posts give a 10:00 opening and 5 give 11:00 — one writer noticed Naver says 10 but the sign at the door says 11. One September post copied a weekday 15:00–17:00 break that no other recent post mentions.
  • Prices vary slightly between posts. The two-person sujebi is 24,000 won in seven posts and 23,000 won in three (July–September 2026), with no clear dividing date. The water-parsley squid pancake is 17,000 won in two posts and 15,000 won in three. The lunch menu runs until 14:00 in three posts and 15:00 in two. One post each gives the Hae set at 64,800 won and the Mong set at 78,800 won; none prices the Hong set.
  • Many posts list the phone number 0507-1319-1913, and copied info says phone reservations are accepted, but no writer says they booked ahead.
  • One February 2026 post complained that the noodles had vanished from the stone-plate stir-fry, but another post that month and posts from April to July say they were included. We can't tell whether it was temporary.
  • One post discloses sponsorship, two say the writer paid, and the other 25 say nothing. One April 2026 post went up with an unfilled template (blank location and hours fields). 'The Dolpan Sanbon', described as carrying on Honghaemong's cooking, is a separate restaurant and isn't counted.
