Korean

Deungbul

등불 Deungbul is the Korean word for a lamp or lantern.

Compiled from 10 blog posts read in fullSources →

Deungbul is a spicy braised pork-rib place on the ground floor of 4 Achasan-ro 7-gil, near Seongsu Station. There are four mains: spicy braised ribs, a spicy mixed braise of ribs and pork jowl, a soupier rib dish and a rosé rib dish. Each comes in small, medium or large, and you pick one of three heat levels. Perilla-oil soft tofu, corn cheese, pickled radish, laver and bean sprouts come free, and many posts finish with DIY rice balls or fried rice. Only one post gave a price: 51,000 won for a large mixed braise. We read 20 posts dated 21 August to 5 October 2026. We set aside 10 of them, mostly Vietnam travel posts that only used the word deungbul (lantern), and all 10 that remain describe actual visits.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Expect to wait. Seven of the ten visit posts mention a queue. The four that timed it waited 30 minutes, 30 minutes, an hour and two hours: four groups ahead at 7 pm on a Wednesday, eight at 7:20 on a weekday, six just after 6 pm. You write your name and phone number on a board by the door and they call you, so several posts suggest wandering the neighbourhood meanwhile. One warns they call only once, and another says there is no waiting area, so they waited in a PC café. One group put their name down at 4:30, before opening.
  2. Even the medium level reads as hot. Three posts called it spicy: one that ordered a small at medium said it was very hot, one said simply too hot, and one said the onion's sweetness hides the heat at first before it builds. One post that ordered the mildest level put it at roughly Shin Ramyun heat and found it easy.
  3. The room is small. Of five posts that described the space, four called it small or said the tables sit close together. The fifth said it isn't big but the tables aren't cramped. One post counted about eight tables.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

No post described the floor or any stairs. The address says ground floor, but nobody wrote about it from experience.

We don't know whether there is a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in. Nobody wrote about it.

We don't know whether the toilet is inside or separated by gender. No post mentioned it.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Posts split on portions. Two found them small: one that ordered a large mixed braise (51,000 won) said you could count the pieces of meat. One said even the small was generous. Another said a medium plus a rice ball and one fried rice filled two people.
  • On seasoning, one post found the sauce quite salty. Another, recalling a visit a year earlier, couldn't remember whether it was salty or bland.
  • Lines like "107 m from Seongsu Station exit 1" or "about three minutes" come from copied info blocks. No post described actually walking from the station.
  • All five posts that list opening hours give 17:00-24:00, and four say it closes on Sundays. All of this is copied info, and no one mentioned a last order or a break. One post warned the waiting list can close early.
  • The only prices we have are 51,000 won for a large mixed braise and 3,000 won for extra tofu. We don't know the price of the spicy ribs or the small and medium sizes, or what a meal typically costs.
  • Four posts list the phone number 02-463-1816. One copied info block says there are no reservations, only on-site waiting, so the phone is for being called off the waiting list rather than for booking.
