CHOHASEOL

초하설 Chohaseol Chohaseol reads as 'early-summer snow' (choha, early summer; seol, snow) — a fitting name for a shaved-ice shop, though no post explains it.

Chohaseol is a thread-bingsu cafe at 404 Ttukseom-ro in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, across from Ttukdo Market. The ice is shaved into fine, thread-like layers and comes with three toppings, such as red bean, rice cake and roasted soybean powder, in separate dishes. Milk bingsu is the basic order at 15,000 won, with green tea at 16,000, melon at 19,000 and mango at 25,000 (September prices). Coffee and ades are also on the menu. Four posts say you order at a kiosk. We read 6 posts dated July 23 to September 20, 2026, and all 6 describe actual visits.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Writing a review gets you a free coffee, according to two posts, one from August and one from September. The September post says a review earns a free americano; the August writer left a Google review and took an iced americano to go.
  2. One post says the drinking water here is barley tea, which the owner brews himself, and recommends trying it. Only that one post mentions it.
  3. Posts describe the milk bingsu's sweetness differently. Two call it sweet, one saying the condensed-milk sweetness comes through more strongly than the milky flavour. A third says it is not an artificial condensed-milk sweetness but a rich, nutty milk flavour.

Getting inside

Toilet inside2 of 6 posts

The address gives the ground floor, but no post describes the floor from experience, and no one mentions seating on another level.

No one says whether the entrance has a step or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in. That means we don't know, not that there is no access. Even the posts by a parent with a child and by a pregnant writer don't mention it.

Two posts say the restroom is inside the shop. One notes you don't have to leave the building to use it; the other contrasts it with the many cafes that rely on a shared building restroom. No one says whether the restrooms are separated by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Posts split one to one on how fast the bingsu arrives. A September post waited a fairly long time even though only one other table was there; a July post says the green tea bingsu came out quickly.
  • One post says a bingsu is too much for one person and suggests sharing among two or three. A July post found the ice filled only half the bowl and saw the same order at the next table looking bigger, so it suspects portions are inconsistent.
  • Two posts call the shop roomy; one says it is not very big but has enough seats. The July post counts few tables, all for two or four people.
  • Prices have changed. Mango bingsu was 22,000 won in a July 2026 post (which also showed a menu photo from Naver Map) and 25,000 won in two September posts. One post found the bingsu on the pricey side.
  • Two posts describe getting there. A September post says a bus stop is right outside and recommends the bus; a July post notes it is a bit of a walk from the subway.
  • No post reports waiting. One sat down right away; an August post arrived around 12:30 as the first customers and saw a crowd come in right after.
  • Two posts went with family, one with friends and one as a group of four. One brought a child.
  • Five posts give the hours as 12:00 to 21:00 daily, but four of them copied the shop's listing. A last order of 20:40 appears only in one copied listing. No one mentions closing days.
  • Three posts list the phone number 0507-1453-0078. No one says whether the shop takes reservations.
