Baekjeong Don Gongjang

백정돈공장 Baekjeong is the old Korean word for a butcher, don means pork and gongjang means factory — the butcher's pork factory, and posts note the place looks like a converted workshop.

Compiled from 27 blog posts read in fullSources →

Baekjeong Don Gongjang is a pork-belly house on Seongsu-il-ro 8-gil, between Seongsu and Ttukseom stations. At dinner it sells pre-grilled bone-in pork belly — the couple board (700 g) at 62,300 won, the full board (1 kg) at 89,000 won — and staff cut the rind off and grill it separately at your table. At lunch there is one dish, gochujang pork bulbaek, which visitors paid 11,000 won for. Several posts call it the Seongsu second branch. We read 30 posts dated 5 June to 2 October 2026; 28 describe an actual visit, one is an untried shortlist and one was about a neighbouring cafe.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Staff handle the meat at the table. Of 26 posts that talk about ordering, 18 say a server cut the pork, separated the rind and grilled it apart; several add that near the end the server came back to strip and re-grill the meat on the rib. It is not full-service grilling throughout — some posts say about a third was left for them, or that they grilled the rest themselves.
  2. Fourteen posts say the pork arrives already seared. One describes a first grilling over charcoal in a separately vented kitchen before the second round at the table; another photographed the searing at one side of the room. Posts link this to a short wait once the meat arrives.
  3. Seven posts mention refills. Four lunch posts got extra pork and lettuce with the bulbaek — a table of four on 1 September ended up taking a second round of pork — and three dinner posts had more seaweed soup and side dishes. One lunch post says the server offered more meat unprompted.
  4. Posts repeatedly say it looks small from outside but is large inside — ten call it spacious. One describes round stainless drum tables in the middle and six- and three-seat tables further in; one found the backless stools uncomfortable. Two mention outdoor tables or a terrace.

  1. Lunch queues are reported both ways. Two posts say there is a lunch wait, with noon as the peak; one of them arrived at 11:30, sat straight away and says there is no queue until about 11:40. A post from Tuesday 1 September at 11:40 also sat immediately but found the room nearly full by noon. In the evening one post walked straight in, and another got in without waiting on a holiday eve but says weekday work dinners can mean a wait.
  2. Two posts used a reservation: one was shown to a window table after the manager checked the booking; another phoned ahead about parking and found the table already set. Many posts give the same phone number, 0507-1313-8953.
  3. One post came with a baby — four of them on a Saturday at 6 pm, ordering the full board — and says staff brought seaweed sheets for the baby. The high chair appears only in copied listing details.

Parking

1 posts say you can park; 1 say you cannot. We leave the disagreement standing rather than picking a side.

Posts saying you cannot1 of 27 posts

Parking is unclear. 'Parking available, evenings only' is copied listing text. The three posts that dealt with it first-hand differ: one found no lot and parked at another building, one says there is a small space in front, and one saw no-parking signs nearby and advises checking first.

Getting inside

No one described the floor. The address says ground floor, but no post mentions stairs, a basement or an upper level — that means nobody wrote about it, not that there is none.

Nobody mentions a step at the entrance or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller; even the post with a baby says nothing about a stroller.

No post says whether the toilet is inside the restaurant; 'separate men's and women's toilets' appears only in two copied listings.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 28 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Opening hours differ on Fridays and Saturdays. Posts broadly agree it is closed on Sundays and open 11:00–23:00 Monday to Thursday, with a 14:30–17:00 break and last orders at 22:00. Copied listings give Friday 10:00–24:00 and Saturday 16:00–24:00, while five posts — including one that photographed the in-store sign on 1 September — give Monday to Friday 11:00–23:00 and Saturday 16:00–23:00. Three posts say it also closes on public holidays. Call ahead.
  • The lunch bulbaek price differs: copied listings say 10,000 won, but every post that ate it or photographed the menu says 11,000 won. Lunch cold noodles are 2,000 won; the evening dessert version is 3,500 won. Five posts found prices fair, and one said it is not cheap but worth it.
  • A shared brief is visible. Phrases about the rind being cut off the belly to eat chewy, 'savoury and juicy with great rind', 'since 2014', 'a single pork-belly menu' and 'only top-grade sow pork' recur almost verbatim in about ten posts, and one includes a paragraph written in the shop's own voice. Only three posts disclose sponsorship. We have not leaned on taste claims such as juiciness or thickness for that reason; 'grade-1 domestic sow pork' is the shop's own claim.
