Wangsimni Jeong Gopchang

왕십리정곱창 Wangsimni is a Seoul neighborhood known for gopchang (grilled or stir-fried intestines); the 'jeong' is written 正 on the sign, meaning upright or honest, and the shop's online store bills itself as 'right and honest'.

A small gopchang (intestine) shop down a side street at 360-5 Ttukseom-ro in Seongsu. People come for iron-plate stir-fried pork intestines with vegetables (15,000 won a portion, per three posts) or charcoal-grilled marinated makchang (16,000 won), then finish with kimchi fried rice on the plate; four of the eight visiting posts had the stir-fry and all eight had the rice. With only four tables, the business leans on delivery, takeout and meal kits, and the dining room sits next door to the kitchen and packing area. We read 11 posts dated 29 April to 25 September 2026. Two were about a same-name branch in Gwangjin-gu and were set aside, and one recorded no actual visit, which leaves 8 visits counted.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. All eight visiting posts say a fish-cake soup arrives free the moment you order, described as sharp and spicy, alongside pickled radish wraps, perilla leaves, garlic, chillies and ssamjang.
  2. Seven posts ate in, and four of them count the tables at four ('up to four groups, four-seat tables'). Two say the room is small. The kitchen and packing area are separate from the dining room: one post says to walk into the glass-fronted room and wait for the owner to take your order, another that the entrance is the side door next to the sign.
  3. Seven posts found no off-smell in the intestines; one writer who is sensitive to it says there was none at all, and another says a friend who avoids makchang kept eating. The daily motorbike delivery from Majang-dong market appears in nearly every post in identical wording; that is the shop's line, and we do not count it.
  4. No post waited. Two sat down at once: one on a weekday evening (adding that tables filled quickly later on), one at 6 pm on a Saturday when they were the only customers.

  1. Four posts call the portions generous, repeatedly mentioning a heap of chives and plenty of glass noodles and cabbage.

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 0 · no 1 (of 8 posts read)

No post describes the floor from experience; the registered address says ground floor, but nobody wrote about it.

Nobody says whether there is a step at the door or whether a wheelchair or stroller fits; one post only notes that the dining room is entered by the side door.

Only one post (a disclosed sponsorship) mentions the toilet, saying it is outside the shop. Nobody says whether it is separated by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 9 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Almost every post repeats the same lines in the same order (22 years in business, daily delivery from Majang-dong, top delivery ranking with 15,000 saves and 20,000 reviews, a receipt-review promotion) under the same three hashtags. This looks like a commissioned campaign, though only one post discloses sponsorship. We treat these lines as copied and do not count them.
  • Heat is split: two posts found the vegetable stir-fry spicy, one found the marinated makchang not very spicy — possibly just different dishes.
  • Prices disagree even within the same months: kimchi fried rice is given as 4,500, 5,000 and 6,000 won. One post copied a 10% discount for cash or bank transfer from the board; we do not count it. For two people, two portions of the stir-fry plus rice and beers came to roughly 40,000-odd won in one post, and another called the bill easy for two.
  • Two posts relay that the first order must be at least two portions of one dish, with single portions allowed after that; this is hearsay from the owner and menu board, so not counted.
  • Opening hours appear in six posts, all copied from info blocks: five say 17:00–21:30, one 16:30–21:30, and three give last orders at 20:30. Five say open daily and one says closed Sundays, so the day off is unknown. Several mention closing early when ingredients run out, and two advise calling ahead.
  • Two posts walked from the subway: one about 10 minutes from Seoul Forest Station exit 2 (and walked back), one down the alleys from Seongsu Station exit 1, noting it is a bit of a walk. No one came by bus.
  • Only two posts say who they came with, both with a friend. Nobody came with family, children or alone, so we cannot say how it suits those. One post saw a work dinner at the next table.
  • Three posts give the phone number as 0507-1344-9552 and one as 02-461-9552. No post actually made a reservation; one only suggests booking ahead because seating is limited.
