Chinese

Wang Jjajang

왕짜장 Wang means king, so the name reads 'King Jjajang', after the black-bean noodles.

Compiled from 12 blog posts read in fullSources →

Wang Jjajang is a neighbourhood Chinese restaurant at 60 Sangwon-gil in Seongsu-dong, across from the Ssangyong apartments near Ttukseom Station. It doesn't deliver: you eat in or take away. Eight posts mention the half-and-half menu, which pairs two of jjajang, jjamppong, fried rice and sweet-and-sour pork, and five ordered it. As of May 2026 the pairs cost 9,000 or 10,000 won and plain jjajangmyeon costs 6,500 won. Several posts say the lunch crowd is mostly local office workers. We read 17 posts dated October 2024 to July 2026. Four were about other restaurants with the same name and were set aside. Of the 13 about this place, 12 record a visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Expect a line at lunch. Four posts mention waiting. Only one gives a time, about five minutes. One post says to expect a wait between 11:30 and 13:00; another says they go the moment lunch break starts because otherwise there's a queue. A further post found two or three tables already taken at 11:00 and says there are no seats after noon.
  2. Ten posts talk about price, and nine call it cheap. One says it felt like going back in time. In May 2026 a bowl with half jjajang and half jjamppong cost 9,000 won.
  3. The sweet-and-sour pork comes with the sauce already poured on, yet four posts say it stays crisp right to the end. Four posts also call the portions generous, including one that found even the small pork plate a lot.
  4. Three posts say the food comes out fast; one says everything usually arrives within ten minutes. One post differs: ordering jjajangmyeon at a late lunch, the writer waited quite a while, though the noodles seemed freshly boiled.

Getting inside

No post describes which floor the restaurant is on; only the address says ground floor. Nobody mentions upstairs seating either.

We don't know whether there is a step at the door or whether a wheelchair or pushchair can get in. That doesn't mean there's a problem, only that no one mentioned it.

No post says whether there is a toilet inside or whether it is split by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 13 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Prices went up on 1 April 2025. One post says jjajangmyeon rose by 500 won and other meal dishes by 1,000 won, while the larger dishes and sweet-and-sour pork stayed the same. Posts up to March 2025 list the half-and-half pairs at 8,000 and 9,000 won; posts from May 2026 list them at 9,000 and 10,000 won. A February 2026 post still gives 8,000–9,000 won, but calls it approximate and looks out of date.
  • The hours seem to have changed. Four posts up to February 2026 give 11:00–21:00 with last orders at 20:15. Three posts from March 2026 give 11:00–20:40 with last orders at 20:10. All agree on a 14:50–15:50 break and closing on Sundays. Most of these were copied from listing info, and no post tested them in person.
  • Three posts describe the walk from Ttukseom Station, but name different exits: five minutes from the station, three minutes from exit 2, and under five minutes from exit 3 or 4. No post mentions coming by bus.
  • Two posts went alone, and both were glad of the solo seats by the window. One went with a daughter. The rest are lunches with coworkers. No post describes going with friends or as a large group.
  • Four posts give the phone number as 02-467-1388. None says whether you can book or whether they ever reserved by phone.
  • Accounts of the ganjjajang sauce differ. Two posts quote a menu note saying it is fried in advance rather than to order, which is the restaurant's own statement. The one post that ate it said the sauce tasted freshly fried.
