Ttukseom Sutbul Galbi
뚝섬숯불갈비 Ttukseom Sutbulgalbi The name is the place plus the dish: Ttukseom is the old name for this stretch of Seongsu by the Han river, and sutbul-galbi means ribs grilled over charcoal. Several shops in the same short alley are named the same way — Seongsu Galbi at 12-1, Suwon Wonjo Galbi at 12-2, this one at 12-3 — which is why the street number matters more than the name.

Ttukseom Sutbul Galbi is a marinated pork-rib house in the short alley (Wangsimni-ro 5-gil) people call the Seongsu galbi alley, three to eight minutes from exit 8 of Ttukseom station and three to five from exit 5 of Seoulsup station. It has been licensed since 1998 — 28 years as of 2026, though posts variously claim 40, 30, 26 and 23 years. It is family-run, now by a young couple. In effect it sells one dish: marinated pork ribs, 300g for ₩18,000, ordered by all sixteen writers. Also neck and belly ₩18,000, brisket ₩25,000, sirloin ₩30,000, beef rib meat and tartare ₩32,000, cold noodles ₩9,000, kimchi stew ₩9,000, soybean stew ₩8,000 (₩4,000 with meat), soju and beer ₩5,000. Two things mark this place out: the staff grill the ribs once over charcoal outside before bringing them in (thirteen writers describe it), and raw marinated blue crab comes free with the table (thirteen again). Five also single out the angelica leaf among the wrapping greens. Open 11:00 to 24:00 daily, with no closing day. The room is small — seven to ten tables for four — and when the weather turns, tables appear in the alley outside. That outdoor seating is what the shop is known for, but there are days it is not there, depending on the season and on enforcement. No parking. It has been on television food shows several times.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- The ribs arrive pre-grilled — thirteen of sixteen writers describe it, more than any other fact about this shop. A member of staff grills them once at the charcoal outside the door, and the smoke-scented meat comes in together with the burner; at the table you only cook the inside through. One writer calls the man outside "a professional at the first grilling"; another notes that because the first pass is done, nothing burns and the meat stays moist. Why it matters is spelled out by one party: her friend avoids marinated ribs because she assumes they are cooked, eats them, and only realises they were raw when her stomach turns — with the first grilling done, she could eat without worrying. The marinade is dark, so doneness is hard to judge by eye. You still hold the tongs, though: two writers warn that marinated ribs catch fast and need turning. And it may be something you ask for — one writer notes you can request the pre-grilling when you order, and that she and her friends declined because they wanted to grill it themselves.
- This shop is known for its alley tables — and three writers went for them and found none. Do not count on it. Five posts describe sitting outside; three describe not being able to, each for a different reason: too early in the spring, "they're not doing it yet" (September 2026), and — the heaviest one — "you can't, because of enforcement" (August 2025). That last is not weather. (Not our post, but one about the shop next door in the same alley reports that it used to put tables on the street and stopped after complaints from neighbouring businesses — this looks like a condition of the whole alley.) There is a reason to wait for an outside table, though: the grill is different. A June 2025 writer only discovered it once seated indoors — outside, every table uses a wire mesh over charcoal; inside it is an ordinary plate. Her conclusion: "if you go, wait for the outdoor seating." The same meat is not the same dish indoors. Outside is not comfortable, mind: it is hot beside the charcoal station, the road slopes so the chairs tilt, and smoke drifts over from the next table — "sit outside only if what you want is the old-shop alley feeling."
- The queue is usually for the outdoor tables only — the room inside can be empty while people wait in the alley. A June 2025 writer is explicit: outside is full, inside is "rather pleasant" and half empty, so the wait exists only for the street tables, and since everyone out there is drinking, it is a long one. Another that month gave up on the heat and walked straight in. On timing: already queueing at six on a Saturday evening; the busiest shop in the alley on a weekend night; one or two free tables on a weekday before a holiday; and nothing at all at eleven in the morning. One September 2026 writer arrived early to a comfortable room and watched it fill within minutes. If you are happy indoors you will rarely wait; if you want the alley, going early is the only way.
- It is a hands-on room, and all five writers who mention the service are positive. They watch the table: one notes that as staff pass they ask whether your greens are low or your grill plate has blackened, and change both; another says the plate was swapped the moment it might have tasted burnt; two mention being given more of the spring-onion salad and the crab without charge. Even when busy: a mother of two on a Saturday evening writes that the place was heaving and nobody stopped smiling. It even decides which shop people enter — one writer, choosing among the alley's rib houses, went into "the one that looked calmest and friendliest." Nobody complains: in sixteen posts there is no negative word about the service.
- Dogs are allowed, but the rule is outdoors — two writers say the same thing. One, whose post is titled "a Seoul Forest restaurant you can bring a dog to", reports that dogs go at the terrace tables and that when it is quiet they sometimes allow it inside; the other simply notes "outdoor tables only". So on a day with no alley seating, a dog may be a problem — read this together with the note above on the outdoor tables coming and going. Neither writer actually sat there with a dog: both are reporting what they were told.

In sixteen posts, not one mentions a step, a threshold, or whether you can get in with a wheelchair or a pushchair. The shop is registered on the ground floor and opens onto the lane, but that is not a statement that there is no threshold — it is an absence. Two things about the seating are worth carrying, though. First, the outdoor tables stand on the road itself: one writer, seated beside the grilling station, found it hot and the road noticeably sloped; another complains of drifting smoke and a chair tilting on the camber. Do not expect level ground. Second, indoors the tables are close together — a writer who brought her daughter worried about knocking into the next one. Only one post says the toilet is inside, and that line was copied rather than seen — it sits in a run of details (toilet inside, no parking, 289 m from exit 8) lifted straight from a listing. Nobody describes actually using it, so whether there are steps on the way, or separate men's and women's, we do not know.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 18 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Check the sign before you walk in — this alley is a row of rib houses, and two of our own writers went into the wrong one. In May 2026 the first of a party to arrive "marched into the shop next door and ordered", which is how they ended up here at all; in June 2025 a writer came for the neighbouring Suwon Wonjo Galbi, found it full, and came here instead — and was glad. Within one street number: Wangsimni-ro 5-gil 12, 12-1 (Seongsu Galbi), 12-2 (Suwon Wonjo Galbi, licensed 1984), 12-3 (here), 14 (Cog). Only the digits differ. And staff will call you over. One writer, self-described as painfully introverted, found the touting from every doorway uncomfortable. You cannot tell whose staff are calling you — go by the number 12-3 and the sign. Three writers explain how they chose, and all three chose by looking down the alley: the one that looked oldest; the one that looked calmest and friendliest; and, from a fourth, simply — "the rib houses are lined up, take your pick."
- With children, take a table inside — the one writer who brought children lists three reasons she gave up on the alley. Saturday, six in the evening, October 2025: every table outside was drinking, everyone was flushed from the charcoal heat, and the tables were close enough that she or her daughter would knock into one. Her children wanted to sit out; she explained they would have to queue and were too small for it, adding that inside they keep the doors open anyway. Her verdict was that the place is perfectly good with children — the ribs come pre-grilled so there is little waiting, the owner kept smiling through the rush, and her daughter spent the evening grilling a clove of garlic. In short: indoors is fine, the alley is a drinking room. No post mentions a high chair or a changing table.
- You will smell of it — the room fills with smoke. The sharpest warning comes from a February 2026 writer: "be aware that in all that smoke, anyone can tell you have been eating pork ribs." Outside is no better: one writer lists the smoke rolling over from the next table alongside the tilting chairs. Charcoal, pre-grilling at the door, and doors kept open. Accounts of the air conditioning differ by year: in June 2025 the doors were open with no air conditioning on and it was warm; in July 2026 it was "blasting", cool despite charcoal on every side. In high summer, expect the warmer version. Don't wear anything you mind smelling of smoke, and if you have somewhere to be afterwards, go there first — in this alley even passers-by catch it: one family was pulled in by the smell drifting down the street.
- There is no car park, and in sixteen posts nobody says they parked. Four state it plainly — no space in front, use the public car parks around Seoul Forest; "nowhere to park, so I recommend public transport"; "parking: no, use a paid lot nearby" — and one names an alternative with the rate: the Seongdong district sports centre car park, ₩4,200 an hour. One line disagrees: a July 2025 writer says parking is "tight (check with the shop)", but he came with a party of twelve and never says he drove. Public transport is the sure thing: five posts put it three to eight minutes from exit 8 of Ttukseom station and three to five from exit 5 of Seoulsup, one measuring it at 289m. And this is a drinking house — every outdoor table is described as a drinking table, so leave the car.
- If the low ratings put you off, the people who actually ate here are more divided than that. A June 2025 post opens by admitting she expected little — the outdoor tables looked rough and the map rating was in pieces — and then: "the quality was beyond what I expected?!" She gave it four stars. Our own count: nine writers liked the ribs, four found them less than they had hoped. Their words, kept as they wrote them: "nothing special — maybe it was just that day, but the meat was firm and dry... the alley atmosphere is wonderful for drinking, so go for that and don't expect much of the meat" (November 2025); "not bad for taste or price, but not worth travelling for — worth one visit if you live or work nearby" (February 2026); "not overwhelming, but a decent rib house, and I think the best of the ones around here" (September 2026). Three writers reach the same conclusion by different routes: not a destination, but the good one in this alley.
- If you have seen "40 years" attached to this shop — the licence says 1998. Posts give five different figures: 40 years (twice), 30 years, 26 years, 23 years. The registry records the licence as 4 August 1998, which makes it 28 years in 2026 — the 2025 writer's "26 years" is closest, and 40 has nothing behind it. The alley itself is older, though: the shop immediately next door, Suwon Wonjo Galbi, was licensed in 1984. One thing is firm. A customer who first came here as a middle-school pupil returned in 2026 and wrote that only the sign has changed — the room is exactly as it was, the owner and his wife are the same people, it is still family-run, and "how has the taste not shifted at all in twenty years?" At minimum, the same family has been cooking the same thing for two decades.
- In sixteen posts there is not one line about foreign customers or an English menu. One writer does note seeing many foreigners around Seongsu in October 2025 and marvels at it — but that is the neighbourhood, not this room, so we do not count it. Nobody records whether English is spoken, whether the menu has English, or whether cards are taken. What we can tell you: the menu is meat names, weights (200g, 300g) and prices, and it is short enough that "pork ribs for N" is the whole order — it is what everyone gets. Drink is soju or beer at ₩5,000 and the range is narrow: one writer passes on, from overhearing the next table, that a particular brand of cheongha is not stocked.
- There is only one floor — no post mentions an upstairs or a basement. Seating divides into the room and the tables out front, and all sixteen posts talk about only those two. Two of them counted the inside: about ten tables in one account, seven or eight four-seaters in another. With nowhere to go up or down, choosing a seat here is the single question of in or out — and at this shop that choice matters a great deal, since the smoke, the sloping ground and the queue are all on the outside.
- Fourteen of the thirty posts we had confirmed were not about this shop — the heaviest filtering in this list. Twelve are about other rib houses in the same alley or the same district (three on the shop next door, three on another grill nearby, two on a fusion pasta restaurant, and one each on three more, plus a property-market essay that walks through the alley). None of the twelve contains the shop's name even once — what matched was not the name but the words for the cuisine, "charcoal-grilled ribs". The pasta restaurant is the worst of it: its dishes are named after charcoal-grilled ribs. The other two posts copy the Naver listing and come from one blog four months apart, complete with "206 visitors said the food was good" and an advert for a group-buying forum at the end. Their prices differ from the photographed menu in all six items (ribs ₩17,000 against ₩18,000, cold noodles ₩7,000 against ₩9,000), so declining to copy them is what kept our prices right. Every number in our tables is counted from the remaining sixteen.
