Shudojaewon
슈도재원 Shudo (酒堂) is the Japanese reading of a word for a drinking house, and Jaewon (材元) is the owner-chef's given name — so the name means the chef's own izakaya.

Shudojaewon is an izakaya one and a half floors up in a building on Sangwon 2-gil in Seongsu-dong, a short walk from Ttukseom Station exit 5. A single owner-chef slices fish at an open kitchen, and 26 of the 28 posts from people who ate there ordered the sashimi plate — eleven seasonal fish and shellfish, two pieces each, 49,000 won for two — often with uni pasta (32,000 won), butter-grilled lobster (43,000 won) or a house highball (10,000 won). Seven went with a partner, five with friends, three with family. We read 30 posts from 3 September to 5 October 2026; two are multi-venue round-ups and are not counted as visits.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- From your seat you watch the chef cut the fish. Twenty-four posts describe the open kitchen; one even notes that he sheathes the knife after each use and wipes the board and washes his hands between tasks. Four say he took the fish out and started slicing the moment they ordered, and one timed the sashimi at about ten minutes.
- The counter is the heart of the room, but there are tables: fourteen posts mention table seating, several specifying just two four-person tables. One post described the whole room as counter seating. Two say the place is small, and some advise booking ahead if you want a table.
- Things arrive that you didn't order. Twenty-one posts describe a free opening dish — chicken breast with aged kimchi or cabbage, or mackerel with white kimchi and olives — and many add a free first-visit glass of house sake, green-tea ice cream at the end, or truffle crisps while waiting. Four note that the water is barley or other tea rather than plain water.
- It is a place for quiet conversation: fourteen posts call it quiet or calm and none say otherwise. One warns that if you expect a rowdy Seongsu bar you will be surprised, and that it may not suit a loud group.
3 more
- Most people booked. Fourteen posts mention booking, and several describe glasses and plates already set at the reserved seat. Two say they did not wait — one was the first table at 6 p.m., the other had a reservation on a night the room was already full. No post describes actually queuing.
- You walk from Ttukseom Station: fourteen posts say it is close, putting it at anywhere from one to just over five minutes. Several give the same directions — out of exit 5, straight on, right at the Paik's Coffee — and one admits to getting a little lost despite expecting it to be easy.
- Ten posts say nothing tasted fishy, several singling out the mackerel — one writer says she can't eat mackerel sashimi just anywhere, but here it wasn't fishy at all.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.
From the station

Getting inside
| In a basement | yes 0 · no 9 (of 28 posts read) |
|---|---|
| Step-free access | yes 0 · no 3 (of 28 posts read) |
| Toilet inside | 1 of 28 posts |
It is half a floor up, not underground: nine posts mention climbing to the 1.5th floor, one advising you to look half a floor up for the sign. No post mentions a separate upstairs seating area.
Three posts mention climbing stairs to the entrance, so we count it as hard to reach by wheelchair or pushchair. Nobody says whether there is a step at the door, a lift or a ramp — that is unknown, not confirmed absent.
Only one post says the toilet is inside the premises, and nobody says whether it is split by gender. Several mention mouthwash, hand cream, sanitary pads and alcohol swabs left out for guests.
No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 30 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- The chef cooks alone. One post says food can be slow when it gets busy (and that he sends out something extra when it is); another only speculates that there may be waits at peak times.
- Prices vary slightly between posts. Ten give 49,000 won for the sashimi plate and two give 48,000 won, with the dates interleaved, so we cannot tell whether it went up. The uni pasta is 32,000 won in two posts and 30,000 won in one. One post calls the place pricey; two say it is good value.
- Three posts say you are encouraged to order at least one drink, but none says it is required. Several note there are non-alcoholic options.
- Twenty-two posts list opening hours, all copied from an info block, and they agree: 6 p.m. to midnight, last order 11 p.m., closed Sundays. One post describes arriving right at the 6 p.m. opening.
- Two phone numbers appear: most posts give 0507-1328-0606, two give 010-9145-0606. Most say bookings go through Naver; some also mention CatchTable and Instagram DMs.
- All 30 posts fall within about a month from early September 2026, and nearly all repeat the menu slogan 'an izakaya remembered for its sashimi', the same hashtag line and the same hours block. Six disclose sponsorship or a free experience, two say they paid themselves, and the rest say nothing. Read them as a promotional wave; the uniformly glowing tone may reflect that.
