Korean

SEONGSU AGU

성수아구 Seongsu Agu Agu is the colloquial Korean word for monkfish (agwi) and Seongsu is the neighbourhood — the house serves spicy braised monkfish topped with fried beef tripe.

Compiled from 25 blog posts read in fullSources →

A monkfish-braise restaurant in a converted old house on an alley of Sangwon-gil, Seongsu-dong, about 200 m from exit 4 of Ttukseom Station. The centre of the menu is braised monkfish heaped with fried Korean-beef tripe (23,000 won per person); 19 of the 26 visit posts ordered the signature set for two (66,000 won), which adds half a cod-roe cheese potato pancake and half an order of seaweed-wrapped octopus rice balls. You choose one of four heat levels, keep the cooked braise warm on a burner set into the table, and finish with rice fried in the leftover sauce. We read 30 posts dated 1 September to 3 October 2026; 2 were about other restaurants and 2 were multi-restaurant lists. Five posts went with parents or family, four with friends.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Ten posts mention a private room: a single room on the ground floor or in the annex that takes one party; one post put its capacity at six.
  2. Eleven posts ordered on their phones via the QR code on the table (Catchtable order). The screen also asks for heat level, shellfish allergy and a review-event extra.
  3. Ten posts dated 1 to 19 September 2026 mention a buy-one-get-one deal on Jim Beam and Suntory highballs. It was billed as celebrating a new highball tap, so we don't know how long it runs.
  4. Eight posts found the portions large: one pair took home two containers of leftovers from the set for two, and a party of three was full after the set plus fried rice. One post noted big chunks of monkfish rather than the usual heap of bean sprouts.
3 more
  1. There are four heat levels; the order screen describes 'regular' as Shin Ramyun-level. Thirteen posts called it spicy, three left it undecided, and one said regular was milder than Shin Ramyun. One diner who eats Buldak noodles still found regular a little hot; another found even the mild version got hotter once rewarmed.
  2. Thirteen posts said the fried tripe was crisp; one described eating it crisp first and sauce-soaked later, and one said its richness could get heavy.
  3. Fourteen posts walked from exit 4 of Ttukseom Station — about 200 m, two to five minutes — and said the white wall painted with waves and big SEONGSU AGU letters made it easy to find.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

Second floor18 of 25 posts
Step at the entrance1 of 25 posts
Toilet inside2 of 25 posts

The house has a ground floor, an upper floor and a separate annex off the yard. Eighteen posts sat upstairs or noted the second floor. One post counted about four 4-person tables downstairs and about eight in an L-shaped room upstairs; several said guests are sent upstairs once the ground floor fills, and one saw a handwritten sign at the door pointing diners up the stairs.

No post mentions a basement; seating is described only on the ground floor, upstairs and in the annex.

No post entered with a wheelchair or stroller. One post climbed steps under the sign to reach the door; several describe stairs to the upper floor, and none mentions a lift. This is absence of reports, not evidence of step-free access.

Two posts saw the toilet inside, on the ground floor. Separate men's and women's toilets appear only in copied checklists, so we did not count them.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 27 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-09-122 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • No post reports waiting. Two walked straight in — at the 11:30 weekday opening and in the early evening right after the break — and another got a table at once with a reservation. 'Usually there's a queue' is hearsay and not counted. There is a Catchtable waitlist tablet at the door, and three posts saw a seated waiting area. We don't know how long the wait is at a busy dinner.
  • Opening hours are all copied information. Daily 11:30–22:00 with last order at 21:00 is consistent, but fourteen posts give the weekday break as 15:30–17:00 and three as 15:00–16:30. Several say there is no break at weekends.
  • Prices are from September 2026 posts and mostly agree. The roe-and-milt braise appears at both 45,000 and 46,000 won, and the Jim Beam highball at 6,900 won (two-for-one) and 8,000 won (menu). One pair paid 73,500 won for the set for two plus a bowl of chilled acorn-jelly soup.
  • Most posts give the phone number 0507-1474-5667; one gives 02-466-5667. Many copied that bookings are taken through Naver and Catchtable, and three posts actually went with a reservation.
  • Two posts disclosed sponsorship. Four others carry the same three closing hashtags with no disclosure, and two of them share phrasing and structure, so they may be commissioned. TV appearances, same-day-slaughtered tripe from Majang-dong, green-tea bean sprouts and the 180-degree wok are the restaurant's own claims, repeated by bloggers, and we did not rely on them.
